Welcome to Rock UK and thank you for taking the time to find out more about who we are and what we do. We are a Christian charity with a history that goes back more than 90 years. At Rock UK we believe that experiencing the outdoors is about more than just having a good time; we strive to bring new learning opportunities to life by actively engaging with our beautiful surroundings. We positively encourage groups of all ages and backgrounds to work together so that every experience can be shared and built upon long after your visit has ended.

We invest heavily in our team’s training and personal development, and feedback from our guests proves that this sets us apart from our competitors. Rock UK Adventure Centres is the ideal choice for your next group residential or day visit. Whether you’re a uniformed group, school, youth group, club, church or work team; our centres are great for residential stays, team training, weekends away, or club meetings.

We fully tailor our residentials and day visit packages to meet the needs of our visitors. Leaders can choose from full board or self catering, an action packed activity programme or to leave a little free time for personal reflection and group-led activities during your stay.

We do recommend an exploratory site visit if you have not stayed at a Rock UK centre before, or wish to refamiliarise yourself with a centre.

As a provider of outdoor adventure for over 90 years we have developed great opportunities for learning to take place beyond the day-to-day environment. We are sure that a visit to a Rock UK centre will provide excellent fun for you and your group.

Set in 58 acres of beautiful enclosed woodland, Carroty Wood is the perfect place for your group to experience new adventures. We have a great range of instructed activities designed to help develop communication skills, build confidence and get your group working together as a team. Alternatively you can just come and enjoy the comfortable accommodation, have a swim in our indoor pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Accommodation Carroty Wood has accommodation for up to 168 people (132 Oct-April). There are four well equipped, A-Framed buildings, with fitted kitchens, showers and toilets, comfortable lounges/dining areas and BBQ/campfire areas. Each building is self contained which allows groups exclusive use of their chosen accommodation.

Additional summer capacity is achieved through provision of designated camping areas (great to keep costs down) and the addition of tents besides Chestnut Loft.

Malcolm Maclean, Centre Director for Carroty Wood, has been with Rock UK for over 15 years, he is married to Lucy and has two young sons. He enjoys playing a variety of musical instruments and is on the Management Committee for a local pre-school. Malcolm has a passion for seeing young people achieve their full potential.

Frontier Centre is a great place for group residentials or day visits as it offers your group everything you need in one location, enabling you to maximise the time spent at the centre and to get the most out of your stay. The Centre has 122 acres of young-woodland and open grounds. The river and lakes provide spectacular views and great opportunities for all your water based activities. There are lots of optional adventurous activities available including the high ropes course, archery range, mountain biking, king swing and many, many more. For residential visits the Frontier Centre has a wide choice of comfortable accommodation for your group. There are also extensive grounds available for groups who may wish to erect a marquee or additional camping accommodation if required.

Location It is easy to think you are in the middle of nowhere when you are at Frontier Centre, surrounded by lakes and the beautiful countryside of the Nene Valley. However, the centre is just 90 minutes from London and Birmingham and is very close to major road networks for the north and south of the country. This makes it ideally placed for groups from all over the country.

Rich Sewell

Rich Sewell is the Centre Director for Frontier Centre. He has been leading the centre since 2009. You will often see him around the centre chatting to guests about their visit. Rich loves the outdoors and particularly rowing which he finds to be outstanding exercise! He has a real passion for the centre, living on site with his wife Debbie, their two daughters and pets.

Summit Centre provides action packed adventure in the South Wales Valleys. Our bespoke programmes for groups are designed with you to meet your specific needs, and to work alongside your desired objectives. The Centre offers a great range of activities which are perfect for developing and exploring group dynamics. Our qualified instructors are great at getting groups to work together as teams through challenges, encouraging communication, trust, inspiring confidence and a sense of achievement. You can choose adventure activities as an option during your visit. Off site activities are also available close to the centre.

Location Summit Centre is located in the heart of the South Wales Valleys and set against a backdrop of stunning woodland and hills. The centre is just 15 minutes from the Brecon Beacons National Park and within easy travelling distance of Cardiff. Close proximity to the A470 and M4 makes Summit Centre a popular residential destination for groups from across South Wales, the west and south west of England.

Planned Refurbishment Summit Centre is set to undergo a £4m refurbishment of accommodation and facilities during 2016. When completed, the newly refurbished centre will provide an excellent range of facilities and activities. The centre will have fully catered accommodation for around 100 people split over 3 separate wings, each with 2 and 4 bed ensuite rooms. There will also be dedicated bedrooms for leaders and staff rooms. To the rear of the current reception there will be a

conservatory extension housing a new café serving hot and cold food; a meeting space for local groups and clubs, internet terminals and free Wi-Fi. The café will open on to a new children’s play area.

Rachel Allen has been with Rock UK for 15 years. She has been the Centre Director of Summit Centre since 2010. Rachel loves the outdoors; in her spare time she likes to go mountain biking, climbing and hill walking. Rachel lives close to the centre in the Welsh Valleys with her dogs.

Whithaugh Park is a popular choice with groups for residential stays and day trips because of the huge range of activities and the wealth of natural adventure resources right on the doorstep. You’ll be guaranteed an action packed activity programme for your group. No matter what the weather is like you can choose from a wide range of activities including climbing, high ropes, our amazing 300m twin zip wire, swimming, kayaking and many more. We can help you to design a programme to meet your objectives and bring out the best in everyone in your group. Right next to the centre you will find one of the 7stanes world class mountain bike trails. You can hire mountain bikes at Whithaugh Park and try out our excellent mountain bike guided rides or coaching courses. Each cluster of lodges has its own meeting/activity lodge which are great for group activities or workshops.

Location Whithaugh Park is set on a hill in 110 acres of beautiful Scottish Borders countryside just outside the village of Newcastleton. The centre is just 45 minutes away from Carlisle city centre and close to the M6, A74(M) and A69 making it a very popular centre with groups from across the north of England and southern Scotland.

Accommodation The centre has a large hall with seating for up to 250 people which is ideal for large groups, and can be hired in addition to the smaller meeting rooms; this is a multi-purpose room which also functions as an indoor sports hall.

The accommodation at Whithaugh Park is set out in a cluster of Scandinavianstyle lodges called holms. Each consists of a kitchen/dining lodge, meeting/ activity lodge and your accommodation lodges. There are up to 192 beds in clusters of holms so there’s bound to be a combination that fits your group size. Full catering is available for day and residential visits or you can choose the self catering option.

Lee Musson

Lee Musson is the Centre Director for Whithaugh Park. Lee lives just down the hill from the centre in the village of Newcastleton with his wife Claire and their young son. Lee has a real passion for the outdoors and can be found climbing, biking and generally out in the mountains in his spare time. Having run outdoor activity youth camps for many years he loves to see the impact that time outdoors can have on young lives.

Health and Safety / Child Protection We take safety very seriously at Rock UK centres. Every instructor is a qualified first aider. Our instructors undergo a rigorous training programme where they are constantly supervised, monitored and assessed. We are fully licensed by AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) to carry out the wide range of adventurous activities which we offer. All specialist equipment is provided for activities and it is regularly inspected and maintained in line with industry recommendations and technical advice. Every member of staff is checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (England, Wales) or Disclosure Scotland and works within our comprehensive child protection policy.

Risk Assessments All of our activities, facilities and accommodation are regularly risk assessed and copies of current assessments are available at our centres. We are visited by hundreds of groups every year and are approved providers for many Local Education Authorities. We know how important it is that our centres are safe for your group so if you want to carry out additional risk assessments too, that’s fine by us. Please contact the centre directly to arrange an appropriate time for a visit.

Insurance

Before your residential visit will provide fully qualified instructors to lead your activity sessions but we request that children’s groups provide an adult leader/helper to assist with group supervision and we hope you’ll want to “have a go!” at the activities too. Each of our centres has a member of staff on-call 24/7 so when you’re on site there’s always someone you can call on if needed.

Catering If you have chosen a catered option for your stay we will contact you with details of meal times and menus etc. All our food is home cooked, nutritious and will help to fuel your group for those energetic activity sessions. During the course of your booking, you will be asked to provide details of any dietary requirements within your group to ensure that we provide appropriate food for everyone!

Accessibility At Rock UK we aim to make adventure “accessible to all” and therefore work hard to ensure that our pricing is competitive and offers great value for money. Our aim to deliver accessible adventure means that our centres also include various accommodation options including wheelchair accessible rooms. Skilled instructors will work with you to ensure the specific needs and objectives of your group are fully met through a tailored programme.

At Rock UK we hold public liability insurance to the level of £10m.
