Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Pi Delta Omega Chapter presents

Little Miss Fashionetta 2013

“Girls on Fire for Excellence” Sunday, April 28, 2013 2:00 PM Royal Palace Banquet Hall Homestead, Florida

Greetings,

We, the members of Pi Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, are grateful for your support of our annual Little Miss Fashionetta Pageant and Luncheon. The luncheon and the many activities that our young ladies participated in during this year’s program are the work of many individuals. Our thanks go out to the parents, friends, and community supporters for their efforts in helping us provide rewarding and exciting experiences for our “Precious Pearls.” This year’s theme was “Girls on Fire for Excellence,” and these girls certainly did warm our hearts with their enthusiasm, charm, and intelligence. From our first glimpse, when each introduced herself to the audience, to the final curtsy at the end of the Grand Waltz, each young lady radiated poise and confidence. We salute them; we wish them well, and we pray that they will always be “sparks of joy” in the lives of those they encounter as they travel life’s highways. To our parents, thank you for entrusting us with your daughters. To our friends and community businesses, thank you for your financial support. To all, we thank you for helping Pi Delta Omega in its efforts to build our community by providing meaningful community outreach programs made possible by your generous support. We look forward to your participation in our future programs. Yours in service,

Karen Harris Hawkins, President Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Pi Delta Omega Chapter

This year marked a radical change in the Little Miss Fashionetta program. Change is both scary and exciting. For the first time, the Little Miss Fashionetta winner would be chosen based on performances in categories ranging from elocution to talent, areas corresponding to program workshops. Judges would be awarding live-time points throughout the luncheon. Would the girls, parents, and long-time patrons like the new format and continue to support us? The answer was a resounding yes. The theme for Little Miss Fashionetta 2013 was “Girls on Fire for Excellence,” and these young ladies set the room ablaze with their brilliance. Sparkling smiles outshined the beautifully appointed tables as Christina Edwards, Bria Martin, Imani Moore, and Na’sha Robinson introduced themselves to the audience. They had us moving in our seats as they danced to the beats of an African drum. Two girls stirred our emotions with their liturgical dances, one evoked the fragrant breezes of Hawaii with her hula, and another warmed our hearts with a poem that reminded us just what makes little girls so special. They surprised us with their elegance and poise as they glided into the room in their pink gowns, and then, with their handsomely attired escorts, circled the dance floor in an old-fashioned waltz. Finally, it was time for awards and the crowning of the 2013 Little Miss Fashionetta. Congratulations to Christina Edwards, our 2013 Little Miss Fashionetta. Christina also won talent, fundraising, and scrapbook. Congratulations to First Runner-up Bria Martin. Bria was also chosen to receive Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. Congratulations to Second Runner-up, Imani Moore. Imani also won the Sue Baety Torch award. Congratulations to our Third Runner-up, Na’sha Robinson who also picked up the Joan Timmons award. That you really are “Girls on Fire for Excellence” is of no doubt to all in the audience who witnessed your inspired performances. Young ladies, we thank you and we hope that you enjoyed all of the activities leading up to the luncheon—the parade, etiquette and oratory workshops, crafts, sleepover, and Black History Month program—just to name a few. We hope that these experiences will be of benefit as you continue your growth into womanhood. Thank you, parents and sponsors, for your support and all your hard work. To our escorts, thank you for your participation. Your presence added a special touch of class. To our community, we thank you for your continued support throughout the years. To my co-chairman, Martha Hughes, thank you for your generosity and commitment. Like the “Ever-Ready bunny,” you are truly the “Ever-Ready Soror.” To my committee members, space does not allow me to thank you individually, but you were the fuel that kept the flame going. Ladies, you are fabulous! The Committee worked hard to make this year’s program a success. We hope it was an enjoyable experience for each of you. Sincerely,

Rochelle Adger, Chairman 2013 Little Miss Fashionetta Committee

Why God Made Little Girls

God made the world with its towering trees, majestic mountains and restless seas, then paused and said, 'It needs one more thing.' Someone to laugh and dance and sing, to walk in the woods and gather flowers, to commune with nature in quiet hours. So God made little girls with laughing eyes and bouncing curls, with joyful hearts, and beautiful smiles, enchanting ways and feminine wiles. And when He'd completed the task He'd begun, he was pleased and proud of the job He'd done. For the world when seen through a little girl's eyes greatly resembles paradise.
