In Genesis 1, we are given the four most important words in all the Scripture: “In the beginning God…” Everything begins and ends with Him. In the beginning  God created, and the sound of His creation continues to resound throughout all generations.   In six days, God created everything we see and know, and on the seventh day, God rested.  All that He created was  good. He rested in that. It was the beginning of His eternal, everlasting legacy that we get to be a part of even still today.   That word, “Legacy,” is a word I believe God spoke to my heart for this year – our seventh year. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus makes a promise to build His Church. It’s the only time in the Scripture that He promises to build something, and certainly, He has been ever so faithful to His Word, as we can see His work on display all around us. I believe our Legacy Year represents a significant season in the life of our church – a season of kingdom expansion like never before. We have the opportunity to both rest in what God has done and is doing, knowing that what He is building here through us will outlive, outlast all of us, and partner with Him - to live and leave a legacy of faith that impacts our generation and future generations to come!

ACTS 20:24 HOWEVER, I CONSIDER MY LIFE WORTH NOTHING TO ME; MY ONLY AIM IS TO FINISH THE RACE AND COMPLETE THE TASK THE LORD JESUS HAS GIVEN ME – THE TASK OF TESTIFYING TO THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD’S GRACE. This book is the story of God’s faithfulness. It is the story of the greatness of God, partnered with the faithfulness of the thousands of people who call Rock City home. It is the story of dreams and answered prayers and sons and daughters coming home. It is a book full of numbers, each one with a name and a story. This is our Legacy.    I believe all that we have experienced, celebrated and encountered in these few short years is the foundation upon which life-giving and life-changing ministry will continue for generations. And, I believe this year, our seventh year, will be a year we will look back on for many years to come, as a Legacy-Defining season for our church and for the amazing people who call it home.  May the work of God continue in us, through us and all around us. This is our Legacy! Let’s Go!

HILLIARD GROUND BREAKING

024

At the beginning of 2015, we sensed the Lord telling us to RUN, and it was clear that He was opening the door for us to put down permanent roots in the Short North and in Hilliard. Because of the faithfulness and generosity of the people of our church through the RUN Campaign, we were, in fact, able to open a permanent campus in the Short North, as well as The Columbus Dream Center! And, in the fall of 2017, after two years of planning, we officially broke ground on what will be our Rock City Hilliard Campus! With anticipated completion in the fall of 2018, these 14.5 acres will house a 50,000 - square - foot, state-of-the-art facility with dynamic and spacious children’s and youth facilities and enable us to put down permanent roots in an area of town where more than 40% of our church resides, while reaching the thousands of unchurched who live within a few miles. We are so grateful to God for His heart for our city and for all of those who have prayed and contributed to this historic moment in the life of our church.

TYLER PUGH Two years ago, I moved to Columbus from West Virginia. It was such a difficult season for me being away from my family and friends. I was going through a ton – dealing with unhealthy habits and a lifestyle that didn’t glorify God - and was so tempted to move back home. Looking back, I can see it was God’s plan for me to be here and a huge part of that plan included Rock City Church. In November of 2016, I came to my first Rock City service and gave my life fully to Jesus. I had always said I was a “Christian,” but in reality those were just words. I hadn’t fully surrendered to Him. As I started engaging in the church and connecting, I saw what it looked like to live out my faith, and I knew that Columbus was my home. Fast forward to today, I am serving at the Westerville Campus as the guest experience leader. I love having the opportunity to connect with people who are walking through our doors for the first time, just like I was connected with two years ago. My Rock City small group has also become a huge part of my life, providing an amazing group of men that I can call mentors and friends. And perhaps the most exciting thing is that I am engaged to be married to an amazing, Godloving girl that I met at the Westerville Campus grand opening. God truly planted me at Rock City for a reason, and I am so thankful He chose this church and this group of people to become my family. I am forever changed.

KRISTY ADAMS During my senior year of college, I found Rock City Church. At the time, I was desperately praying for a church community that I could surround myself with and live life alongside. When I walked through the doors for the first time, I remember seeing all of these joyful people worshipping alongside one another, and I remember praying – “Lord, I want what they have!” After that first Sunday I attended Rock City Connect. Before long, I was involved in Rock City Kids and joined a small group. I loved being involved in every way I could, but honestly, one of the most cherished moments of my life happened the night I got baptized. I had nervously invited some of my friends who didn’t go to church to be there for my baptism. It was a stormy summer day and when tornado sirens started going off, I felt defeated. God had other plans though, and before long, the Short North team had set up the baptism tanks in the basement of the campus. Surrounded by acoustic worship, a church I loved and my friends, I experienced the sweetest glimpse of heaven. Today, I have the privilege of serving as a Rock City intern, and I have been on four Rock City mission trips! God has transformed my life through this church in countless ways, and I can truly say I have what I longed and prayed for that first day I walked through the doors.

TIM & MARTI GRANT Marti and I walked through the doors of Rock City for the first time 18 months ago. We were in search of a place that would help anchor our children who are in their early 20s. That first day, we felt the familiar feeling of the Holy Spirit, and we knew we were home. Suddenly, our family began to look forward to Sunday mornings. The volunteers and campus pastors were energized and the powerful messages were invigorating. When the church announced that they were launching a Westerville Campus, we knew it was time to jump in and start serving. Being a part of the launch team gave us a feeling of belonging and family. We were amazed at the excitement, organization and team chemistry. Serving consistently has allowed us to build meaningful relationships that are much deeper than those we had when we were just attending Sunday services. Today, we are contributing to the work Jesus is doing in and through this church, and as a family, we are more focused than ever on cementing our legacy. Our desire is to leave a legacy of love for Christ for our family, friends and community and Rock City is helping us do that. It is hard to imagine a time when Rock City was not our home, and we are so excited and open to being used by God to reach the next generation!

LET’S DO THIS. In late August, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma ripped through Texas, the Southeast and Caribbean Islands, leaving massive devastation and, for thousands, a loss of hope. Armed with a simple idea, Rock City jumped into action and led Columbus in collecting supply buckets filled with cleaning supplies and food. Before long, local companies and news agencies wanted to be a part, and through this initiative, we were able to host the first-ever NBC 4 - Rock City Church and American Red Cross Day of Giving, engaging hundreds of Rock City volunteers and thousands in our city. In total, three semi-trucks full of supplies were sent to Texas and the Southeast to help meet their immediate needs, and thousands of dollars were given to help churches in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico serve their communities.

The Columbus Dream Center is a local outreach arm of Rock City Church. The doors for this hub of hope opened just two years ago in the heart of our city. Fueled by a love for the people of Columbus and the idea that the local church truly is the hope of the world, we are seeing love shared and lives transformed each and every week through the programs and outreach of the Dream Center. Powered by thousands of volunteers, each week the Dream Center after-school program, homeless and sex trafficking outreach, laundry and shower program, Adopt-A-Block, meals program and many others, are able to meet some of our city’s most basic needs. And perhaps one of the things we love most about the Dream Center is the opportunity it provides for us to partner with other local churches and organizations! This year alone, over 60 churches and outside organizations jumped in and served, and we know we’re just getting started!
