Healthy Bodies & Souls

Exercise Class – Sundays & Tuesdays Sundays, 1:30-2:30 pm Tuesdays, 6-7 pm River Oaks CC is always trying to find ways to help individuals in the community to develop spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally. These are all good things. But bodies also matter to God, so it is time to put some focus on our physical health. Through August, River Oaks will host a group fitness class that is open to any of its members and neighbors. All fitness levels are welcome and no equipment is required. Each week you can get your heart pumping, strengthen your muscles, improve your balance, and increase flexibility, all in just one hour! “Joy” by Kristy Smith

Your first class is $5, the next is $4, then $3, then finally $2. You can continue to pay $2 until you miss a class; then the cost goes back to five. Come dressed ready to move and bring some water to drink. We begin promptly at 6 pm on Tuesdays and 1:30 on Sundays. Please contact Laura Coffey with any questions.

A Note from Megan Back in June, we committed as a church to try our best to do four things this summer: 1.) Pray every day & act on the Spirit's leading. 2.) Commit to weekly worship attendance, unless you're sick or out of town. 3.) Participate in and pray for the activities of the church! 4.) Invite people you know to visit ROCC (at least one a week). Summer may be ending soon, but our commitments will remain strong. Let’s keep on praying and looking for God’s movement in our daily lives. Let’s keep on gathering together to give thanks, to dine at the Table, and to be renewed for the work God calls us to. Let’s keep on working and serving the River Oaks community, Greater Fort Worth, and the world as the Body of Christ. Let’s keep on letting folks we care about know about this place – where they’d be welcome to explore, grow, worship, eat, learn, serve, and come to know Christ in community. These disciplines of prayer, worship, service, and invitation/hospitality are essential, and they will be immensely important to us throughout the fall. We will soon be talking a lot more about our

Bring a Friend Sunday – August 19 You know how you can’t help but share good things with those you care about? One good thing you can share includes a loving church FULL of joy and Spirit. Bring a friend with you on August 19th!

identity as River Oaks Christian Church. We’ll talk about who we are as God’s people, where and what God’s calling us to in this time and place, and how we will serve as the church God is calling us to be. Prayerful conversations like these will help us to clarify our mission and vision so that we can more faithfully and effectively reach out with Christ’s love to our neighbors. Start thinking about these things if you haven’t already; we’ll want to hear from everyone for this important work which will affect our ministry in the years ahead.

Regional Assembly – Oct. 7 The 2012 Regional Assembly for the Christian Church in the Southwest is October 7! It’s going to be a little different this year – we’ll be worshipping together in a variety of locations across the region, through the miracle of technology! The theme is One Church, Many Places. More information to come soon!

Reaching Out as Christ’s Body Trinity Brazos Area Habitat Build – THIS FALL! TBA Disciples are building a house this fall! ROCC will provide lunch one day for the workers (we’ll tell you ASAP what day that will be), but there are also days open for YOU to help build. If you’d rather not cook or build, consider being a site host. You’ll facilitate morning registrations, water breaks, and setting up lunch. See the schedule on the bulletin board just outside the Fellowship Hall, and sign up to serve!

Castleberry ISD – Help when you can! Castleberry ISD schools could use some help! Read with kids, help in the nurses’ office, shelve library books, or decorate bulletin boards, among other tasks! Volunteer applications are available on the opportunity table in the narthex. You may bring your application to the school where you intend to volunteer, or you may leave it in the church office and we’ll turn it in for you. Volunteer whenever you can. Although we won’t be volunteering as one big group, each of you will still be representing River Oaks Christian Church! Let’s make sure our community knows that we care.

NICA – Northside Inter-Community Agency ROCC donates items to NICA every month, and now we get to work there! On Saturday, September 15, we will help with food distribution to the elderly. Plan on meeting at ROCC to carpool at 8:30 am, or meet us at NICA at 8:45. We will finish our work by 1 pm. …to Lee Schwarz for trimming the cacti near the church sign! …to our lawn mowers in July: Roger Graves and Jerry Huey. …to those who cleaned the church in July: Pat Carr & Earlene Stockton, Bill & Barbara MacSwain, Lee Schwarz, Ida Doraiswamy, and Bill Spence. …to Brin & Cheryl Richardson for hosting the pool party!
