CREATING MY DESIGN TO CREATE MY DESIGN, I ONLY USED NECESSARY EQUIPMENT AND ADOPTED APPROPRIATE TECHNIQUES THE FOLLOWING, IS A VIDEO SHOWING ALL THE PROCESS OF CREATION OF MY DESIGN THROUGH A SERIES OF SCREENSHOTS, EACH OF THEM PRECEDED BY AN EXPLANATION. SEVERAL SPREADSHEET TERMS WILL BE USED ( ACTIVE CELL / ROW / COLUMN / MENU BAR / PULLDOWN MENU / FONT / DRAGGING A CELL’S FORMULA TO OTHER CELLS ), BUT IT IS DEDUCED THAT THIS BASIC KNOWLEDGE HAS TO BE ACQUIRED BEFORE USING THIS PROGRAM


TO CREATE MY DESIGN, I WILL USE THE PROGRAM “MICROSOFT EXCEL”, THEREFORE CLICK ON “START”, THEN IN THE PULLDOWN MENU, ON “MICROSOFT OFFICE PACK” AND THEN IN THE RESULTING PULLDOWN MENU CHOOSE TO OPEN THAT PROGRAM


ONCE MICROSOFT EXCEL OPENS, START BY INSERTING THE TITLE OF THE SPREADHSEET “STUDENT MARK SCHEME” AND BY COLOURING IT IN BLUE ( I DID NOT SHOW HOW TO COLOUR THE TITLE IN BLUE BECAUSE SUCH BASIC SKILLS SHOULD BE A BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE WHEN USING THIS PROGRAM


BELOW THE TITLE, INSERT THE STUDENTS’ NAMES. IN MY SPREADSHEET, FOR INSTANCE, THERE ARE FIVE STUDENTS : STUDENT A / STUDENT B / STUDENT C / STUDENT D / STUDENT E


THEN INSERT FIVE COLUMNS WHICH REPRESENT THE FIVE TESTS TAKEN BY THE STUDENTS. AS SHOWN IN THE FOLLOWING SLIDE, THEN, CASUALLY, INSERT GRADES THAT THE STUDENTS MIGHT POSSIBLY HAVE ACHIEVED

BY DRAGGING THE ACTIVE CELL FROM ITS BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER, FIND THE RANKING OF THE FIVE STUDENTS ACCORDING TO THEIR TEST AVERAGE


A COUPLE OF ROWS UNDER “AVERAGE”, CREATE A TABLE WHERE THERE ARE TWO VALUES AND THE CORRESPONDENT JUDGEMENT WHICH WILL BE GIVEN TO THE STUDENT IF ITS GRADE AVERAGE FALLS BETWEEN THEM. MAKE SEVERAL PAIRS OF NUMBERS, THEREFORE SEVERAL CORRESPONDENT JUDGEMENTS AND THEN NAME THE TABLE ( BLEU FONT, COLOURED TITLE )


SO THAT EACH STUDENT HAS ITS OWN JUDGEMENT DEPENDING ON ITS TEST AVERAGE, WITH THE “VLOOKUP” FORMULA FIND THE CORRESPONDENT JUDGEMENT TO STUDENT A’S TEST AVERAGE. FOR FURTHER KNOWHOW ON THE “VLOOKUP” FORMULA GO AND SEE THE DOCUMENT “FORMULAS USED” IN THE CREATE SECTION OF THE PROJECT


BY DRAGGING THE ACTIVE CELL FROM ITS BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER, FIND THE CORRESPONDANT JUDGEMENT FOR EACH OF THE OTHER FOUR STUDENTS DEPENDING ON THEIR TEST AVERAGES.


TO CHECK IF THE FORMULA WORKS, CHANGE THE STUDENTS’ TEST RESULTS UNTIL ALL THE JUDGEMENTS APPEAR


SINCE THE DESIGN SPECIFICATION SAYS THE DESIGN NEEDS TO BE PRINTABLE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONFORM TO IT. THEREFORE, THE NEXT STEP TO DO IS TO GIVE A BORDER TO THE CELLS IN USE SO THAT THE CONTENTS ARE EASIER TO UNDERSTAND WHEN PRINTED.


USING THIS SPREADSHEET COULD RESULT A BIT DIFFICULT, THAT IS THE TEACHER COULD MISTAKEN IN INSERTING THE STUDENTS’ GRADES, THEREFORE IT IS IMPORTANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE CELLS WHERE THE GRADES NEED TO BE INSERTED. IT IS IMPORTANT THOUGH, TO KEEP THE DOCUMENT PROFESSIONAL ; NO BRIGHT COLOURS WHICH ARE DISTRACTIVE. THEREFORE, HIGHLIGHT THE CELLS WHERE THE FIVE STUDENTS’ GRADES NEED TO BE INSERTED AND RIGHT CLICK ON YOUR MOUSE / TOUCH PAD. IN THE PULLDOWN MENU, CLICK ON “CELL FORMAT”


WHEN THE FOLLOWING WINDOW OPENS, CLICK ON “COLOUR” AND CHOOSE “6,25 % GREY”. THAT IS THE HIGHLIGHTED CELLS WILL BE HIGLIGHTED WITH GREY DOTS AT 6,25 %. THEN CLICK “OK”


ON THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE SPREADHSEET, INSERT THE NAME OF THE TEACHER ( FOR EXAMPLE “MRS GAULBLADDER” ) AND COLOUR THE FONT IN RED SO THAT THE NAME IS HIGHLIGHTED


SOMEWHERE IN THE SPREADSHEET ( BLUE FONT ), INSERT SOME DETAILS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE GRADES ACHIEVED IN COMPARISON TO THE CONDITIONS ( MISSING THE TEST / MINIMUM GRADE IF THE TEST IS SERIOUSLY TAKEN / MISSING THE TEST WITH A VALID REASON ) AND HOW THE TEST AVERAGE IS THEN GOING TO BE CALCULATED


THE NEXT STEP IS TO CREATE A MACRO, THAT IS A COMPLEX SERIES OF OPERATIONS WHICH ARE RECORDED AND WHICH THE COMPUTER CAN CARRY OUT JUST BY ONE KEY STROKE. TO CREATE A MACRO, ON THE MENU BAR, CLICK ON “TOOLS”, THEN IN THE PULLDOWN MENU CLICK ON “MACRO” AND THEN, IN THE RESULTING PULLDOWN MENU, CLICK ON “RECORD NEW MACRO”


NAME THE MACRO AND GIVE IT A COMBINATION OF KEYS FOR IT TO FUNCTION


AS THE MACRO IS NOW RECORDING, HIGHLIGHT THE CELLS WHICH HAVE TO BE REOARGANIZED ; MY AIM IS FOR THE SPREADSHEET TO ORDER THE STUDENTS IN DESCENDING DEPENDING FROM THE VALUE IN THE “AVERAGE” COLUMN, THAT IS THE AVERAGE TEST RESULT OF EACH STUDENT


ON THE MENU BAR, CLICK ON “DATA” AND THEN, IN THE PULLDOWN MENU, CLICK ON “SORT”


CHOOSE TO SORT THE HIGHLIGHTED ROWS DEPENDING ON THE VALUE IN THE “AVERAGE” COLUMN


CHOOSE TO SORT THE ROWS IN DESCENDING ORDER ( FROM BIGGEST TO SMALLEST VALUE IN THE “AVERAGE” COLUMN )


NOW THAT THE MACRO HAS BEEN RECORDED, ON THE MENU BAR, CLICK ON “TOOLS” THEN, IN THE PULLDOWN MENU, CLICK ON “MACRO” AND THEN IN THE RESULTING PULLDOWN MENU, CLICK ON “END REGISTRATION” TO END THE REGISTRATION OF THE MACRO ( SERIES OF OPERATIONS )


NOW, THE SPREADSHEET IS NEARLY COMPLETE. THE ONLY ELEMENT MISSING ARE THE GRAPHS TO SHOW THE STUDENTS’ AND THE CLASS’ TREND. START BY CREATING A GRAPH SHOWING STUDENT A’S TREND : HIGHLIGHT STUDENT A’S TEST RESULTS


THEN, ON THE MENU BAR, CLICK ON “INSERT” AND THEN IN THE PULLDOWN MENU CLICK ON “GRAPH” TO CHOOSE THE TYPE OF GRAPH WANTED TO REPRESENT STUDENT A’S TREND


THE FOLLOWING WINDOW OPENS. FOR INSTANCE, I CHOSE A LINE GRAPH BECAUSE MOST SUITABLE TO THE ISSUE. ONCE CHOSEN THE TYPE OF GRAPH, CLICK ON “CONTINUE”


THEN CLICK ON “CONTINUE” AGAIN


IN THIS STEP, IT IS POSSIBLE TO GIVE A TITLE TO THE GRAPH AND TO NAME THE AXIS ( I NAMED THE X AXIS AS TEST TAKEN AND THE Y AXIS AS POINTS SCORED / 10 ). MANY OTHER OPTIONS ARE POSSIBLE IN ORDER TO MODIFY THE AESTHETIC COMPONENT OF THE GRAPH. ONCE FINISHED, CLICK ON “END”


ONCE THE GRAPH APPEARS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONITOR, MODIFY ITS SIZE UNTIL SUITABLE AND MOVE IT UNDER THE TABLES AS SHOWN


ONCE THE GRAPH WHICH SHOWING STUDENT A’S TREND IS COMPLETE, REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE FOR THE FOUR REMAINING STUDENTS …


HIGHLIGHT THE TEST AVERAGES OF THE GRADES ACHIEVED BY THE FIVE STUDENTS IN EACH TEST


BY THE SAME PROCEDURE PREVIOUSLY EXPLAINED, CREATE A GRAPH SHOWING THE WHOLE CLASS’ TREND


MODIFY THE GRAPH’S SIZE UNTIL SUITABLE AND THEN MOVE IT NEXT TO THE OTHER GRAPHS. VERY IMPORTANT IS TO MOVE THE GRAPHS AND TABLES AS YOUR OWN PREFERENCE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE EASIER AS POSSIBLE TO READ AND TO USE. THE SPREADSHEET IS THEN COMPLETE AND SO, READY FOR MRS GAULBLADDER TO USE …
