Local SNP calls for Biomass plan to be scrapped Forth Energy proposes an electricity generating plant fuelled by wood pellets in Leith Docks. The decision on the 200Mw planning application will be made by Scottish Government Ministers. There is widespread local concern regarding the proposal ranging from the sustainability of the project to its effect on other proposals in the docks and its visual and health impacts on Leith and Edinburgh. Forth Energy’s Plans for a large scale Biomass Energy Plant in Leith Docks are wrong for Leith says SNP Councillor Rob Munn. Cllr Munn said: “I believe the plans for a giant Biomass plant in Leith are wrong for the community and should be opposed. I am a supporter of green renewable energy but I cannot support this scheme. The Forestry Commission has said that there is no capacity in the UK to provide wood for this proposal. I question the ‘sustainability’ of this project when the wood to fuel the plant would be shipped from overseas.” Cllr Munn and Lothians MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville are united with many local residents in opposition to the plans.
