SEEDS OF HOPE PERU

Introducing Seeds of Hope Peru The Seeds of Hope School in Huaraz was opened in March 2006. We currently have 58 children aged between six and nineteen attending the Seeds of Hope School - that’s a doubling in size this year! We hold our school in a small house with three classrooms, a kitchen where we make food for the children and a bathroom where they can wash themselves and brush their teeth. There is

also a garden where the children can plant vegetables and play safely outside after class. The children receive help with schoolwork from Monday to Thursday and on Friday we play sport, undertake a science project or do a variety of different activities with them.

David is 15 years old and in 5th grade of primary school, even though he should be in secondary school. He lives with his mother and three siblings in a small adobe and plastic hut under a bridge. His father left when he was young and his mother constantly travels back to her small village to find work, leaving the children at home on their own to cook and take care of themselves. He had some problems with reading, writing, and completing his homework but with help from Seeds of Hope he is continually improving and progressing.

EDHIL Edhil is 13 years old; a happy, energetic teenager who lives with his family of eight in a small adobe house with a tin roof in Huaraz. His parents often leave the children home by themselves to return to their small village and find work. Every night he works on the streets singing and selling sweets along with his two older brothers. He is in 6th grade of primary school, although he should be attending secondary school. He has some problems with reading and maths but is working to improve these by regularly attending the Seeds of Hope School.

V I T ME R , KE L E R , E S T E FAN I AND BEL IZ AR I O Are learning to read and write with the help of Seeds of Hope. Their parents can´t read or write so are unable to help them learn at home. Their house in the mountains burnt down in 2006 so they moved to the city. Six members of the family live in a one room house that Seeds of Hope helped to build, made of adobe and a simple tin roof. The children are all very slow learners but with the help of Seeds of Hope they have all had tremendous progress in school in the past couple of years.
