THE Gondola pub was packed to
the rafters with family and friends of George Coogan who came to help him celebrate his 90th year. The birthday boy was surrounded as he blew out the candles on his specially designed cake, which featured a picture of himself as a young man beside a present image. Adamstown parents want action on speed Demonstration highlights traffic safety issues near primary school

CONCERNED parents from Adamstown Castle Educate Together NS held signs around the school asking motorists to slow down, in protest over the area’s lack
of traffic calming measures. Approximately 20 parents held a demonstration recently to warn motorists to adhere to the 30kph speed limit and have pledged to continue with these protests every Thursday until
the council acts upon their requests for traffic calming measures. Principal Tim Moriarty said: “We’re trying to get the council to put signs up around the area just to get people to slow down as there
have been quite a few nearmisses.” A local authority spokesperson said a meeting will be arranged with the school to discuss the situation at a future date. Full Story on Page 9
