Ballyboden St Enda’s players celebrate their back-to-back senior championship victories at Parnell Park

Enda’s retain the Dublin camogie title Ballyboden ladies take championship for second year in a row with victory over Raheny at Parnell Park dundrumsport@gazettegroup.com

BALLYBODEN St Enda’s retained the Dublin senior camogie title with a fine 2-8 to 1-6 victory to continue their fine run in the last decade in the competition. It left skipper Ciara Lucey to raise the Maura Brady Cup for the second year in a row but it was no easy run for the Firhouse Road club who will be able to glean plenty for their upcoming Leinster championship bid off the back of this tussle. Indeed, Raheny recovered from the shock of almost conceding a first-minute goal – it was subsequently ruled out for a square ball – before the championship final debutantes settled. Ciara Burgess’ point helped and they went on to control long periods of the first half with a free by Siobhan Curran before 17-year-old Aoife Kelly brought the enthusiastic Raheny

following to their feet with a superb score in the 11th minute. It did, however, briefly sting Boden into action as Ciara Ruddy scored a great goal following a surging run. But, despite this tonic, it was the Raheny girls who responded better with Curran adding a point while Kelly won the race on to a long ball over the full-back line and finished in style. Another Curran point from a free stretched the Raheny lead to five points in the 23rd minute. It left Boden needing to dig deep and they started the come-back just before the break with lethal corner-forward Emer Lucey nipped in for a fine score. And, making some significant moves with the introduction of Anne Griffin and Maria McGrath, they made an impact as Boden began to turn the tide with Ciara Lucey striking first in the half from a free. Sister, Emer,

created her own score with a superb block while a long delivery from Luttrell just crept inside the post for a goal that gave Boden the lead for the first time. Through the half-back line, the champions were laying the platform for success with the combination of Luttrell, Orla Smith, Joanne O’Sullivan and Elaine Hickey cutting off the supply to the Raheny inside line - so much that Sile nic Coitir didn’t have a shot to deal with in the second half. Curran did nick back a point but, within a minute, Boden had secured a free from 25m which Ciara Lucey duly pointed. And her side’s greater experience showed as Raheny began to tire after their intensive workrate. Maria McGrath chipped in with a pair of points and Emer Lucey put four points between the sides with a great score that all but ended the northside club’s brave showing.
