sHC B Kilmacud Crokes 0-16 St Sylvester’s 1-7 sport@gazettegroup.com
K ILMACUD Crokes topped their senior B hurling group following their fourth win from five outings last week when they saw off St Sylvester’s in Silverpark. In a physical affair played out in sunny conditions, Crokes came away deserving winners by six points as Syl’s were unable to build any momentum despite an early goal. Good defensive play by the Crokes back
line laid the foundation for the victor y, while Emmett Doherty and Niall Lillis were solid throughout. Eddie O’Byrne and Barry Mulligan were very lively in midfield, while up front Donal McGovern, Caolan Conway and Barra O’Leidhin were the pick. They picked off their points in a crisper fashion to top the group B table and advance to the quarter-finals of the competition where they will meet Naomh Mearnog. Sylvesters’ cause was not helped when they
were reduced to 14 following a red card but they have retained their place in senior B hurling at the first time of asking having gained promotion from the inter ranks last year. Despite the loss, they stay in the championship by virtue of their head-to-head win over Naomh Barrog who lost late to Kevin’s last week. They go on to meet local rivals Naomh Olaf in the quarter-final. T hey followed up with an AHL3 success against Round Tower, Clondalkin on Saturday evening at the same
venue with plenty to spare, winning out 1-19 to 0-11. It made for a great weekend for the club’s hurlers as their senior A side as they moved up to fifth place in AHL division one with Oisin O’Rorke’s goal helping them to a 1-20 to 1-13 victory over St Vincent’s. They went in at half-time six points to the good and duly maintained that position of strength. The club’s junior A side, however, fell to Raheny 0-15 to 1-11 in St Anne’s Park on Sunday morning despite Kevin Coakley’s first half goal.
