Methodology Fitness class instructors were provided with survey invitations to hand out to all customers in their classes during the week of November 4 th to November 10 th . Customers were invited to complete an internet based survey prior to November 18 th . Customers were encouraged to complete the survey and enter their name for one of four incentive prizes: ƒ

4gb iPod Nano (approximate value $175)

ƒ

$150 Lululemon Athletica gift certificate

ƒ

$150 Brainsport gift certificate

ƒ

Free personal training – 1 hour assessment and 5 hours training (approximate value $170)

Instructors were encouraged to hand out survey invitations and if their class had someone complete a survey they were entered into an incentive draw for a $100 gift certificate for Alexander’s Restaurant. A total of 482 responses were received from customers. Some customers completed the survey more than once if they participated in more than one fitness class during the week the invitations were distributed. The 95% confidence level for this number of surveys is ±3.68%. This means that we can be 95% sure that the results obtained in this report are within 3.68% of the actual drop-in fitness population at our facilities.

Note: Customer comments through out this document appear as they were typed by customers into the online survey tool – the only changes were typographic where a word was written in shortform o r m i s-spelled.

Customer Reasons For Using Drop-in Fitness Classes The most important reason for choosing our drop-in fitness classes is the convenient location of our facilities. This is similar to other evaluation surveys we have done. The other top reasons were because the class they were interested in was offered at the facility and because of the quality of our instructors.

Other reasons for choosing this facility? Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre: ƒ After attending Lawson I found that the classes aren't so large and you have your own space in the water. I attend Monday a.m. at Lawson & also Saturday. The rest I attend Harry Bailey. ƒ As a SIAST student it is free to go here. ƒ Because of weight room and pool in same location. ƒ It is free. ƒ I am a SIAST student and as such have free access to the program, being a student cost is a large factor for me to choose a fitness class. ƒ I get free access as a Kelsey student. ƒ The time of class. Lakewood Civic Centre: ƒ Has everything I need in one place, ie. pool, sauna, hot tub, weight and cardio equipment and drop in classes. ƒ I Like the pool and it is easy to get at from Silverspring. ƒ I use a leisure center 3 times a week (or more) but have to go to Lawson once a week to have all classes I want to take fit into my schedule. ƒ I use my leisure card 3 times a week but have to drive to Lawson for one class to fit into my schedule. Prefer everything about Lakewood better. ƒ It is the instructors that bring people back to the class after the first time. ƒ My children can go swimming while I go to my yoga class, then afterwards we go to the library. ƒ It is not busy. ƒ I’m a refugee from the Field House. ƒ Used to be clean. Currently, the weight room and hallways are not great. Check the corners and the edges. Have you cut cleaning staff? The housekeepers are/should be considered an integral part of your staff. Lawson Civic Centre: ƒ I also attend the Saskatoon Field house on the days I do not go to Lawson Heights, so my usage is based on three facilities -Field House, Lawson and Harry Bailey. -8-

I find the water at Harry Bailey too cold, even though HB is closer for me to get to. I have in the past used this facility for aqua motion classes but one Mon. Wed. Thur. I do not care for the work out so I am using Harry Bailey and Lawson Centres. I also use The field house 3x's a week. I love the walking circle at Lakewood and I like the coolness of the pool at Harry Bailey. The Lawson pool is way too warm for me especially the narrow part of the pool near the speaker system. Shimara is an instructor that I had for two months 5x's a week. I was worried I would get bored but she was the best instructor I've had and I think she should be instruction the instructors. My spouse uses this facility. You offer a variety of classes at different times which really helps when trying to squeeze in some time for Mom between children’s activities.

Saskatoon Field House: ƒ A track to run is available as well. ƒ My belief in not for profit facilities. ƒ Flexibility to try different classes when it works into my schedule no commitment ƒ Free parking. ƒ Good acoustics-easy to hear instructor ƒ Good sized change room -sauna - several shower stalls -interesting variety of classes available - larger workout room. ƒ I can only use the facility in the evening so I like that the class is a little bit later in the evening. ƒ I enjoyed the yogafit classes when they were given by Irene and Karen. While Karen is still able to be an instructor, I wonder why she isn't instructing a class this term. We need to have more than a basic class. Someone like Karen with knowledge and experience can do so; the current instructors will improve and be able to offer more challenging classes with time and experience but for the present time we are left without an experienced instructor. I go to one of her classes at Lakewood but don't feel that 1 class/week is enough. Is the problem the pay? Is the City competitive with other facilities? Is the training period adequate? Are there pertinent workshops that would help instructors 'grow' in their level of teaching? ƒ I like that you don't have to purchase a yearly membership. You can pay by day, month or year. What ever suits you and your family's needs. ƒ I like using the Track @ the Fieldhouse. ƒ I prefer to support community-wide facilities. ƒ It has a walking track. ƒ It's fun and I like the music. ƒ Natalie is the best instructor in town. ƒ offered at a time in the evening when I would be home. ƒ The instructor is AMAZING. I have been to many fitness classes in my life but he is by far the most motivating and interesting instructor I have ever had. I only come to the Field House because I like taking his class! ƒ The time is convenient. ƒ The time of the class is convenient. ƒ There are enough machines that when I want to do cardio, I don't have to wait around...I love the track, and so far, the one class I've gone to set the bar very high for my physical goals. ƒ Time was convenient. ƒ Track is available. ƒ A variety of activities are offered. ƒ The variety of classes.

If no or partially please describe why: Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre: ƒ

I really enjoyed the class itself and the instructor. Just distracting as it was on during public swim, so lots of people walking by, some would hop in and join for a few minutes then leave. Also the instructor brought her son, he was very distracting as he would swim around all the ladies in the class. He tended to get in the way, and I felt uncomfortable with him continuously swimming around me underwater with his goggles on.

ƒ

Instructor's son was swimming in the area of the class and was very disruptive.

ƒ

The water is to cold and I am sure I would use it more if the water was a bit warmer.

Lakewood Civic Centre: ƒ

A big drawback to the Aquafitness classes is the speaker system for the music is badly in need of repair or replacing. It's either too quiet or too loud, and the volume control is touchy at best.

ƒ

Class was way too full- no control over amount of people in classes - that sign means nothing - 5 people came in after it was up.

ƒ

I disliked the music used in the class...most participants are too old to appreciate the kind of music played.

ƒ

I found the facility dirty and overcrowded. The locker room was dingy. The class was in the gym, which seemed adequate but I was disturbed by the amount of people peering in the windows at us...maybe some paper on the windows would suffice.

ƒ

I'm not very adept at the drop in classes yet and chose this one because it was a beginner class. I found the choreography and speed of the class a bit too challenging, but made it through. It was a good workout, though.

ƒ

Instructor is excellent but moves from one exercise to the next too quickly.

ƒ

Not enough weights for all participants in the class.

ƒ

The change rooms are not as clean as they should be.

- 10 -

ƒ

The class was supposed to be a level 1 and it was too fast and the instructor was hard to understand.

ƒ

The sound system (as usual) was not up to what it should be. Sound kept fading.

ƒ

Today's class was repetitive and was not very challenging.

ƒ

Too crowded- the high demand warrants an additional class.

ƒ

Too many people in the small room.

Lawson Civic Centre: ƒ

Intensity of class seems to be geared to ages of most participants, so sometimes is quite challenging and frustrating. Would prefer more consistent format or easier options for some poses.

Saskatoon Field House: ƒ

Cueing is a bit off.

ƒ

I really enjoy the highly energetic cardio work out, and I think the instructor is of high quality in terms of the workout. I myself would much prefer a regular cool down vs the usual strip tease cool down. If I wanted the strip tease I would go to a strip tease class. I know most people in the class don't mind, but for me it's a significant concern because it is one of the only times that works for my schedule to work out that day. I would consider avoiding the class if I felt I had another option.

ƒ

No childcare available.

ƒ

Regular instructor was subbed.

ƒ

The class was very crowded! It should be held in a larger room or area if it is a very popular class.

ƒ

The entire facility needs to be cleaned and scoured thoroughly; floors, lockers, shower, etc.

Appendix A - Other comments regarding fitness instructors The majority of customers enjoyed their visit to our facility on the day of the evaluation.

Cosmo Civic Centre ƒ

I don't think learning specific choreography is as important as repetitions of movements, although the choreography is fun. Some of the choreography is more of a memory game than actually practicing isolating the muscles. Would like more time with the actual exercises; less time chatting. There is a fair amount of stopping and starting in this class, would prefer to keep going. I enjoy her class though. Love the warm-up. The music is good.

ƒ

Sarah is always enthusiastic about class. I find this particularly amazing as she is 6 months pregnant, and she agreed to instruct the class as they were desperate for an instructor. Her instructions are clear and easily followed by both the new and regular attendees of the class.

ƒ

She is a very kind caring person. She always tries to make the classes very enjoyable.

ƒ

Terri is awesome, leads a hectic life so its understandable if she’s a little scatterbrained, but she knows what she's talking about

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre ƒ

Enjoy KARLA's class: the variety, the use of boards, paddles, noodles. SHE is very upbeat.

ƒ

I go 4-5 times a week--no instructor on Mon. ,but work without an instructor. Tue & Thur have Shirley, Wed. Have Joanne and Friday have April--all first rate teachers

ƒ

I really injoyed fraulk she was injoyable to go each evening.

ƒ

Keep up the great job !

ƒ

Mondays instructer is better than wednesdays...wednesdays instructor needs to vary her routine or use props..it gets very boring and redundant!

ƒ

Nice that instructor is friendly, good job!

ƒ

She was very nice, and helpful when ever I needed help, and she was knowledgeable about what she was talking about.

ƒ

Son should not be allowed to be in part of pool sectioned off for class

ƒ

The instructors vary in the type of work out they provide. This is good beause it adds variety to the week. If an instructor is poor the class numbers fall. This is bad because it cuts down ones options for the week.

ƒ

This instructor is far superior to most of the other instructors. She has helped me with other fitness ideas not related to this class.

ƒ

VERY enjoyable

ƒ

Very enthusiastic teacher Phalk

ƒ

Very friendly and easy to talk to

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

A fun, personable instructor....does a fantastic class. The classes are too full to really allow the instructor to help participants.....we are packed in there like sardines. Perhaps more yoga classes would allow for more reasonable instructor/participant ratios as well as more appropriate space for moving in (without bumping your neighbor).

ƒ

Both instructor's at Lakewood and field house are very good

ƒ

Carla is an excellent instructor.

- 24 -

ƒ

Cheerful and welcoming attitude

ƒ

Enthusiastic, easily understood and fun

ƒ

Excellent instructor

ƒ

Excellent motivation. However i want to spend more time at each exercise. We move too quickly from one to the other. Our instructor should feel great about her leadership....just let us work.

ƒ

Fantastic!

ƒ

Fun to work with always smiling

ƒ

Glen is an awesome instructor he is the main reason i come to this.

ƒ

Glen is an excellent instructor

ƒ

Glen is awesome! He should be allowed to play the music as loud as he likes.

ƒ

Glenn is a good instructor. You can tell he enjoys this class.

ƒ

Glenn is the best instructor i have come across in both land or water classes. Glenn has super high energy and makes you want to work hard. The hour goes by very fast and it is a lot of fun.

ƒ

Glenn is the reason that my girlfriend and i go to the gym every week. He is very motivating and provides fun for each class. We attend 3 of his classes per week.

ƒ

Glenn's class is both challenging and fun. Overall a great workout.

ƒ

Great instructor

ƒ

He is amazing

ƒ

He is highly motivational

ƒ

Her enthusiasm and personality makes it fun to come to her class. We were going to go at a different time but changed times so we could take her class.

ƒ

He's awesome! Great outlook!

ƒ

I love his classes. He's a great instructor.

ƒ

I love how he motivates through humour.

ƒ

It was a bit had to hear but due to the fact that i was closer to the back.

ƒ

Janet is pleasant and is a great motivator. When i work out in her class i always leave feeling like i have accomplished something. She goes out of her way to make shure it is an enjoyable class such as providing music she knows we like

ƒ

Karan is an excellent instructor. I would like her to teach the fusion(yoga class too)

ƒ

Karen is a fabulous instructor and approachable too.

ƒ

Karen is an excellent yoga instructor. I hope you make every effort to keep her.

ƒ

More rosalyn's are needed!

ƒ

Orpha has been teaching this class for years. It is comforting to know that after being away, you can drop in and get right back into the routines. She tries to keep the level up for regulars, while trying to include newcomers.

ƒ

Orpha is an excellent instructor. She makes you feel at ease even if you are unable to keep up with the group. She explains everyting clearly.

ƒ

Orpha is great - she is bubbly and vivacious.

ƒ

Personable

ƒ

Phav could use a little more variety within the class. She doesn't seem to have enough to fill the hour, therefore there is a lot of repetition. To-days class did happen to have a couple of new moves which was nice.

- 25 -

ƒ

Rosalyn is very friendly. She has a sense of humour & her classes are always very enjoyable.

ƒ

Rosalyn, karen and janet are all excellent yoga instructors, i have participated in classes with all of them.

ƒ

Rosalynne is an excellent instructor, easy to understand and follow.

ƒ

Rosalynne is wondertful and very energetic. The time flys along and is fun because of her.

ƒ

Roslyn is an ecellent instructor, easy to understand and makes the class seem like fun

ƒ

Roslyn's great-she's warm and caring!

ƒ

Rossalin is an older instructor and this is nice for me because i am an older woman and find it hard to keep up with some of these yopunge girls. Rossalin is so qualified and understands problems older ones can have.

ƒ

Select other words to describe the body parts other than ass and boobs.

ƒ

She is very cheerful and makes our class very enjoyable.

ƒ

She is very good at adapting the class to varying skill levels.

ƒ

She's good but still quite nervous. She transitions from position to position too rapidly and as such is

She is always smiling!

irritating the class, but she's too timid to ask what the problems are. As a result, the class grows irritated with her and she slowly starts to panic, and that makes it worse. All she needs to do is take a minute longer with each exercise and the irritation will go away. ƒ

She's simply fabulous - tremendous creativity and variety

ƒ

There are 'needs improving' instructors and excellent ones. They average out. The variety of approaches and personalities make it interesting.

ƒ

These questions are hard to answer as there is not always the same instructor and they vary in capability. Will answer for best instructor in my opinion. Fridays - there is one i wouldn't rate so high

ƒ

These ratings apply to this morning's (nov. 5) instructor only. The ratings would be different according to the day- i would rate other instructors significantly higher.

ƒ

This class has a variety of exercises. One week was mostly boxercise and the next week was mostly step. I don't like step. Prefer a combination

ƒ

This fitness instructor does a good job. I enjoy taking classes where the fitness instructor is full of energy and encourages you to work hard . This instructor does this.

ƒ

Top-notch

ƒ

Tuesday wednesday and friday instructors are excellent

ƒ

Very motivating

ƒ

Very motivating and energetic - great

ƒ

Very repetitious and does not add any new excercises to the session.

Lawson Civic Centre ƒ

Carmelle is very caring & enthusiastic

ƒ

Glen is motivational

ƒ

I always enjoy this instructor's aquamotion class - always a good workout

ƒ

I am evaluating the 10 a.m. Aquamotion instructer.

ƒ

I am rating Jeanie. At Lakewood althought I never went there today because I don't like her workout. I love Joanne's workout and Rosalyn's workout. I Shimara is the best. I also like Shirley's at Harry Bailey. Jeanie is a nice woman but she is almost impossible to understand. I know her routine now and can just do what she wants but she has us use a twist lunge motion between cardio workouts and it is too hard on most people. She also does not warm us up well enough and goes immediately into a 1 1/2 min workout. I just

- 26 -

find her workout to hard on my body (have many problems). I don't have cramping and sore muscles after any of the other woman's workouts just Jeanie's workout. ƒ

I beleive it would be better, especially for newcomers if the instructor didn't come in the water with us. It is hard to hear what she says in the water or to see what she is doing.

ƒ

I like when instructors talk through out the classes, explain what muscules are affected by the activity. The comment about helped participants that have problems - i've been in this class for a short time ( 1 month) & haven't seen anyone ask for help.

ƒ

I love this class! It is my favourite, mainly because of the instructor. I had a problem I asked her about, and for weeks after that, she continued to let me know of new information she came across regarding it.

ƒ

I took aquamotion classes at Harry Bailey for years and she far exceeds all but one instruction whom i've had before. She is very knowledgeable, personable and energetic.

ƒ

I would like to have more explanation on what muscle or part of the body each exercise is working.

ƒ

Joann, Theresa and April are very exceptional instructors. We are blessed to have them.

ƒ

Kristen is always pleasant and motivates me to do my best and not to quit

ƒ

Monday instructor is conscientious, polite, gives a good workout

ƒ

Overall, I think she is really good, but sometimes seems to "wing it" with some exercises, to see how well they work. Which is OK, but I don't feel I get as good a work out when she does. I prefer a "planned" workout. I also prefer an instructor who actually does the exercises with you, and she tends to talk more than perform. But she also helps those who needs it, and watches us on our form, so I guess you can't always do the exercises at the same time.

ƒ

Provides an excellent aerobic workout with good cooldown

ƒ

She is a good instructor and knows her stuff, but i find the class a little slower in comparrison to other aquacize 1 classes i have attended. I realize every instructor is different though and she does do a good job

ƒ

She is upbeat and lively with a very positive attitude

ƒ

The best one i've experieced here so far...very enthusiastic and upbeat..he was a blast!!

ƒ

The instructor is great. She is so friendly and makes the class a lot of fun. Exercising should be an enjoyable time and that is how she conducts the class.

ƒ

The instructors we have had in the past have been excellent

ƒ

The Monday fitness instructor is the best instructor!!!

ƒ

Very enthusiastic and friendly. (Nick)

ƒ

Very relaxed and easy to approach.

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

As much as I don't agree with his approach to everything in the class I do enjoy the workout and will continue to go.

ƒ

At Michelle's class you are going to sweat & have a great work out. Her routines are varied for interest and cover many muscle groups. She often talks with her eye closed while exercising. Safe? No, but she has yet to fall off that stepper!

ƒ

Both Leah and Wendy are doing a great job leading this class.

ƒ

Calm cool and collected

ƒ

Dani always has tons of energy and good stories that keep me going even when I am getting tired

ƒ

Dani is a great instructor. Her instructions are informative and thorough. She explains which muscles are being used and how to prevent injury. I like her style and her running commentaries!

- 27 -

ƒ

Dani is an awesome instructor who is always "up", has good music for each class, and gives a workout that is both challenging and fun.

ƒ

Dani is very knowledgeable about muscles, etc and quite often does tell us what the exercises do for the body; she did that for most today.

ƒ

Erin was VERY good; i've been to other SPIN classes @ SFH and was not impressed. Instructor makes all the difference.

ƒ

Excellent (natali)

ƒ

Glen is awesome! He is funny and super motivating! I love this class!

ƒ

Good selection of music

ƒ

Great attitude. For the new comers she always said it will get better and don't get down on yourself if you don't get the moves down the first time. She was very supportive to all

ƒ

How could the instructor possibly do all the above when the class size was so huge? She did the best that she could with so many participating.

ƒ

I appreciate Leah's ability to make it personal and to make it fun. The main reason I come to the Fieldhouse is the quality and professional yet friendly attitude of the instructors.

ƒ

I found that I could hardly hear him over the music but he was really into it

ƒ

I love classes with Leah B. They are designed for a person with some experience and can be frustrating for new people - but they are Step II and Quad Step - so a person should expect that they are designed for a more advanced work out.

ƒ

I love Leah!

ƒ

I LOVE this fitness class. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a great hard workout.

ƒ

I'm very much "enjoying" this class. It's probably the toughest hour of my week, but when it's done I know i've worked hard and I feel proud that i've toughed out another class. The instructor is super motivational and very encouraging.

ƒ

Just to explain the 'good' above. The class is very advanced and fast paced and it would be difficult to help those that are not at the same level nor should it be expected in this class. I attend because it is taught at this level and would recommend it only to others who are advanced. I only put good because it is not something that would occur on a regular basis, nor are any detailed explanations required. The class and Natalie are both excellent.

ƒ

Kristen is a very good instructor and I enjoy her classes and motivation.

ƒ

Leah is a great instructor and would attend her classes where ever she was instructing.

ƒ

Leah is an experienced instructor and is very good.

ƒ

Leah it a truly amazing instructor. Extremely motivating!!!!!!

ƒ

Marley is very observant and makes and effort to ensure that everyone is able to get a good workout regardless of ability or pace. She also keeps it fun and motivates without yelling at you.

ƒ

Ms. Brannen was also very entertaining with her stories about the night before. Thanks to her efforts the workout was great and virtually painless.

ƒ

Nat is excellent and keeps us coming back. She gives a great overall workout

ƒ

Natalie is an excellent fitness instructor. I think she is one of the best at the facility.

ƒ

Natalie is the BEST!!

ƒ

Natalie was my fitness instructor; she is by far the best instructor I have ever had!!!

ƒ

Needs to break down moves for the weaker members of the class needs fewer water breaks could use slightly quicker tempo

ƒ

Nick is a good step instructor, he has good variety in his routines and makes the class fun.

- 28 -

ƒ

Orfa is the best ever!

ƒ

Routine is too simple therefore the class is boring.

ƒ

She is a good step teacher and has lots of variety in her routines on the step which I enjoy.

ƒ

SHE IS ALOT OF THE REASON WHY I GO

ƒ

She is likeable, enthusiastic and close to my age ie-not 20 and "peppy"

ƒ

She was a lot of fun!

ƒ

She was very good, I expect she'll whip my but into shape in no time if I keep going, which I intend to...but I was lost for most of the class; didn't know what commands she was calling out....and of course, because I'm out of shape, I couldn’t' quite cut it just yet...

ƒ

The instructor uses the ball in the class and it is great. She is very knowledgeable with a background in massage as well and knows the muscles of the body. She is also very helpful accommodating injury and gives adaptations. Also always funny and perky.

ƒ

This class can not be led by a beginner or novice instructor and should not be allowed even as a substitution.

ƒ

This class had a slightly hectic quality to it. I also wondered why we tried to do every exercise invented for every muscle group in the short hour.

ƒ

This class is fantastic! I always feel like i've had a great workout, and the instructor is always cheering us on to keep going, work hard, and that we're doing a great job.

ƒ

This is just regarding yoga. I learned under Irene, so have very high expectations in this class. All other classes such as muscle, step and cardio are usually excellent all around.

ƒ

Today it was hard to hear the instructor even though she wore a headset.

ƒ

Very energetic, with good choice of steps and music

ƒ

Very friendly and personable.

ƒ

Very friendly, knowledgeable instructor. Keeps participants motivated to work hard.

ƒ

Very Nice

ƒ

Wow! What else can I say. He is the sole reason why I keep coming to the field house! I love his classes.

Appendix B - Other comments regarding class ratings The majority of customers enjoyed their visit to our facility on the day of the evaluation. Cosmo Civic Centre ƒ

Although I think the music used is great, I would be interested in hearing other genres as well.

ƒ

This instructor doesn't use equipment during her class.

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre ƒ

Could use some of the water equipment to provide some variety

ƒ

Could use use more variety in exercises

ƒ

Her cardio is the best.

ƒ

I love falak's magical wands.(eqip)

ƒ

Need a wider range of music, but what we have is pretty good

ƒ

Some of the ladies in the class were complaining the music was too fast and the bass too harsh on thier ears. Might want to look at the genre of clients

ƒ

The flotation belts are very difficult to use because they are so big that they don't tighten enough to fit me, and not ride up.

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

As always there are problems with the sound system

ƒ

Aside from the broken down speaker system for the music, i have no complaints about the classes i am taking at this facility. All the instructors are competent and cheerful.

ƒ

Even with the new sound system the quality of the sound is poor. It is often difficult to hear the music and the instructor is unable to adjust the level satisfactorily

ƒ

I prefer when she uses music with melodies and particularly older (50's) tunes with a rhythm you could dance to.

ƒ

It would be better if the sound system was more reliable. It seems to be difficult to adjust the volume, and then it still drops off after a few minutes. It is a good idea that it doesn't impinge on other swimmers.

ƒ

It would be helpful to have bloosters(sp?) For a gentle yoga class

ƒ

Its great that the yoga mats are provided and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

ƒ

Karen picks a very interesting variety of music to play during class

ƒ

Lakewood could use some more hand weights (especially 5lbs-they tend to run out)

ƒ

Mats are dirty and need a little upgrading.

ƒ

Music is good but the sound system sometimes causes problems

ƒ

Need to have more weights and dyna bands available

ƒ

No class is ever the same as the week before which makes it really fun. Sometimes instructors have the same routine week after week and it becomes automatic. Glenn mixes it up somewhat every time.

ƒ

Not enough mats, weights were in poor shape and dirty.

ƒ

Orpha is a good instructor.

ƒ

Some of the mats could use a cleaning - more five pound weights are needed

ƒ

Something should be done about sound system. Many complaints about new noodles. Hard, rough and uncomfortable.

- 30 -

ƒ

Sometimes too crowded to use some of the equipment.

ƒ

The class does not really use equipment, but it doesn’t need equipment

ƒ

The music system needs repairing or replacing. The instructors all have trouble with it.

ƒ

The music system seems to have a few problems getting the volume regulated.

ƒ

There are not enough decent weights and mats for the whole class , when there are more than 32 attending

ƒ

There are not enough weights available for everyone.

ƒ

When class is full equipment is tight to short

ƒ

Would like more abdominal work and use of noodle in pool

ƒ

Would prefer less grape vines & jumping jacks and more routines on the actual step. The class i was at tonight had too much floor routine. I didn't feel like i got the normal workout i usually get but this was a fill in instructor so maybe that's why it was so different than usual. Some of the steps are in pretty bad shape at Lakewood. Would also be nice to see some new mats and some cleaner and paper towels to wipe down the mats with after each class like they provide at most gyms and at the field house.

ƒ

You should have seen us last week, there was a pool full of grey haired ladies exercising and singing "ittsy bittys yellow polka dot bikini" we all had a ball!!!

Lawson Civic Centre ƒ

Again - this is when we have had an instructor

ƒ

Best instructor you have, but he needs to start and end on time, especially with the late night classes

ƒ

Could use more variety at times

ƒ

I personally like faster music but she might be playing music that the majority of attendees prefer

ƒ

Nicer mats would be great, or have them cleaned more often.

ƒ

Some of your equipment needs upgrading in the multipurpose room, such as ripped and dried up exercise bands.

ƒ

Sometimes music is in Spanish, need new noodles

ƒ

The variety of equipment we use in the class is excellent. My rating above is on the quality of that equipment: some of the equipment in the multipurpose room need upgrading, like ripped and dried up exercise bands. More of a variety of tensions for those bands would also be nice, as the lighter ones tend to get picked over pretty fast.

ƒ

There was not enough of the proper weights when i went to the class

ƒ

Your music system at Lakewood stinks. It is impossible to adjust and half the time if they get it set where it is acceptable after a while to sound fades and you can only hear the beat. Its really annoying. The big speaker i think was put in the wrong place too.

Saskatoon Field House ƒ

A lot of the rubber bands are broken & need replacing. The non skid pads for under the pads also need replacing. The steppers can still slip.

ƒ

At the end of class he used some current hiphop songs that are fun to move to. It would be great if he would consider using more of the current songs during the class. It adds to my enjoyment and I may be able to do it at home someday

ƒ

Boxercise 2 is a full body workout! Glen makes this class so enjoyable...love the loud music!

ƒ

Could change music less often, love her cool down music

ƒ

Could use more new music

- 31 -

ƒ

Could use new steps.

ƒ

I didn't like the music. I like dance songs but these were rather the "bad kind" no offence. It sounds better when it is by the original singer.

ƒ

I feel the need to keep my own personal hand sanitizer with me when using the weights. The boxes of weights would be handier if closer to the exercise area (not across the track). It is inconvenient also for those walking the track to avoid participants crossing the track with weights in hand.

ƒ

I know there is a new track surface but would really prefer that the hand weights be in the middle area rather than across the track. Not a complaint, just a hopeful comment!

ƒ

I love the equipment. I wish they could video tape this class so that I could do the class at home when I can't make it to the class.

ƒ

More air flow moving through the room

ƒ

More exercises using weights would be nice

ƒ

Music is very personal so you'll never be able to please everyone. Personally I do not prefer older re-make songs, country or Christmas music. It needs a fast pace beat... But I'm probably a minority

ƒ

N/A -NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR BOXERCISE

ƒ

Needs to change up her warm-up - different routine

ƒ

Recommend more twisting type postures be used in the classes. Also, we are getting a little low on lamps that plug into the wall; incandescent type lighting is more friendly and relaxing for this type of class.

ƒ

Solid foam blocks would be better than sponge blocks--are safer to use

ƒ

Spraying down of the bikes was not mandatory after the class - that bothered me. This has happened each and every SPIN class I’ve attended. Now, I always spray it down BEFORE I start so I know it's been cleaned.

ƒ

Steps are getting old and worn

ƒ

Steps need to be updated - so are in pretty bad shape

ƒ

The class is pretty good a minor detail is I would like to see more exercises for legs eg. Outer thigh, inner thigh and derriere. Mostly just work the arms and upper body. We use the step for our cardio and I really like that portion.

ƒ

The moves are often the same. I'd like to see more new moves.

ƒ

The rubber grips used under the steps need replacing. I'm concerned for the strain it puts on my knees and back.

ƒ

This class is good but lacks variety

ƒ

We could use heavier weights need 15lb. Weights on the court

ƒ

When there are a lot of participants there is not enough room to move.

Appendix C - Other comments regarding facility ratings The majority of customers enjoyed their visit to our facility on the day of the evaluation. Cosmo Civic Centre ƒ

There were no open-ended comments in this area.

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre ƒ

Good job!

ƒ

Have had very negative experience with woman working at concession. Very rude and condescending.

ƒ

HBAC showers are little slow compare to Lawson.

ƒ

I think Harry bailey is a great facility with lots of light and a good water temperature in the large pool. The warm up pool I find to be too warm and often, in fact, very often, not as clean as the large pool. I would like to see more healthy choices at the concession also.

ƒ

I was noticing the other day that the locker doors look like they could use a power wash.

The wash room

always looks clean. The change area floor needs a power wash and tiles replaced ƒ

Our space was limited as there was also public swimming going on.

ƒ

There was a pink powder on the floor in the bathroom, and it was gross.

ƒ

Why do fitness centres provide soooo much junk food, aren't we fat enough? What are we teaching our children?

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

Bad service at concession

ƒ

Change room is filthy and disgusting

ƒ

Change rooms are often too wet and floor can be dirty

ƒ

Class is getting larger, so gym tends to get crowded some days.

ƒ

Classes can be crowded at times.

ƒ

Conflicts at times with swimming classes

ƒ

Draining and cleaning the hot tub is something that should be done before the facility is open. It should never occur while the facility is in use by clients. I work in a hotel, so I speak from experience. This infuriates clients.

ƒ

Due to the varying numbers, some days there is just not enough room to move around safely. As little as 16 or as many as 26 or more.

ƒ

Floor in gym can be very dirty at times.

ƒ

I am aware that the earlier class is very crowed so i attend the 10:15 class where you have more space to move around

ƒ

I would like to see a little store to buy things for use in the facility like I have seen in other cities. I.e.; swimsuits, water bottles, towels, etc.

ƒ

If lockers could be available elsewhere to store your gym bag, going into the change/shower room at Lakewood is not inviting for everyone, to put lockers elsewhere a person would not carry around their bag. It’s hot, humid and wet in change room if its only to change and use exercise facility.

ƒ

Maintenance is very poor repairs not done when they should be , soap dispenser empty

- 34 -

ƒ

Men's change rooms have only a few lockers with hasps for private padlocks. The upper level ones are frequently all taken. The lower level ones are not friendly to arthritic knees. Lockers are in poor shape need replacing.

ƒ

My kids enjoy getting french fries after swimming

ƒ

Need more yoga programs so that it isn't so crowded, as i suspect it will get even more crowded come winter.

ƒ

Paint the lines in the parking lot

ƒ

Parking lot has not had lines painted yet this year. Lines are not visible. More cars could park if lines were visible.

ƒ

Putting some marking for parking stall would help in freeing up some more parking spaces

ƒ

Shower/washroom facilities in family rooms are very dirty - i will no longer use them due to these conditions- need improvements

ƒ

Sometimes the class is a little full but it is so much fun i can put up with the overflow

ƒ

Sometimes too crowded in the shower and dressing room areas. so we don't all come out at the same time.

ƒ

It would be good to stagger the classes

(aquafitness and moms and babies/toddlers)

The temperature in the gym needs to be better regulated. There is no consistent temperature either way too hot or too cold

ƒ

The floor in the gym should be cleaned more often. Often on a Monday the floor is sticky or slippery.

ƒ

The floor in the women's change room during public swim time is disgusting.

ƒ

The gentle joint swimming class previously limited the number of participants to 24,adding 4 more if they swam in the deep end, total being 28. now the class has enlarge significantly, it does make it difficult to get a good workout, with so many in the pool.

ƒ

The gym floor needs to be swept more often as there are a lot of dust balls on it

ƒ

The lockers should be cleaned once in a while

ƒ

The parking lot could use lines to show where to park

ƒ

The pool is overcrowded. In June when meeting with the program co-ordinator we were told that the maximum, (for safety reasons) was 28, now the maximum is 34! The clothes pin system for controlling the numbers in the class was fine except that it was neither policed nor enforced

ƒ

The yoga classes are too full for the space. The change room/shower spaces are kind of grimy...I’m sure these are hard to keep clean with people wearing outdoor shoes on wet floors.

ƒ

Thirty-four patrons in pool is very crowded as most of us use the middle depth. This should be controlled by someone.

ƒ

This fitness facility is well set up. I know after public swimming it is hard to have the change/shower areas clean with all the people coming and going.

ƒ

Weight room is very limited in space and gets very congested when numerous people are using it.

Lawson Civic Centre ƒ

Concession needs healthier food

ƒ

I do not use the concession services

ƒ

I don't use the change rooms. Sometime the class is quite full. Plus we use a lot of equipment which takes up space. I don't use the concession services when I come for the class.

ƒ

I don't use the concession, but I have noticed in the past that the menu items are not particularly good nutrition choices.

- 35 -

ƒ ƒ

I would like to see a bathing suit spinner installed so I can get most of the water out of my suit. The ladies' dressing room is too small and the curtained "privacy" areas and bathrooms are not nearly enough.

ƒ

The room is small if you have more than 12-15 participants.

ƒ

The women's locker room bathroom area is almost always smelly, not sure why. A deodorizer would be great.

Saskatoon Field House ƒ

Class is very full and not enough room for everyone

ƒ

Concession needs to offer more healthy choices in food options ( and napkins please)

ƒ

Crossing the track to get equipment is NOT acceptable. Someone is going to get hurt.

ƒ

Does there really need to be 8 wheel chair spaces? They are all usually empty. The change rooms and exercise rooms could use some updating compared to all the new gym's in the city

ƒ

DON'T USE THE CONCESSION-N/A

ƒ

Except for not knowing if the SPIN bikes were wiped down after the last person used them. Shower room area floor was VERY dirty; were people in the shower area in outdoor shoes??

ƒ ƒ

I chose this facility over the university because of the availability of parking. I could only give an acceptable rating for space as we're generally packed in pretty good. I would hate to limit the class size further, however, as I can understand why it is such a popular class. I think we all make do, but if a larger area is available that might be nice.

ƒ

I don't always feel safe going to the parking lot after class (it is in the evening) and I wish that there was more lighting in the lot.

ƒ

I don't overly enjoy trying to find parking anytime, but I have three small children and parking in the dirt is not great as we all get muddy trying to get in. It would be awesome to have all the parking areas paved. Also, the dance and fitness room can be a bit small depending on the amount of participants. Today, it happened to be fine.

ƒ

I don't think the fitness room upstairs is ever cleaned. The mirrors rarely get cleaned. The floors always have dust bunnies...

ƒ

I love the sauna

ƒ

I never use the concession

ƒ

Improvement overall since renovations done this past summer. Sauna in much better condition.

ƒ

It really depends on the day. If there is a track meet on, the visit is often harried and not at all positive. I have had encounters with young people who abuse the change rooms!

ƒ

It should be opened more often. We miss it when it is closed on weekends or summer time. It needs to be more subsidized.

ƒ

It was very crowded & hard to see the instructor because there were so many people

ƒ

It would be nice to have our concession run year-long.

ƒ

Need more space in low impact room

ƒ

Never use concession, therefore don't know

ƒ

Noticed several dust bunnies sailing by our heads every once in a while.

ƒ

Parking is good except when there is some other event, then patrons are pretty much left with no parking which can be very irritating when you only have a few minutes to get to a class because of your schedule.

- 36 -

There should be parking for patrons only at these events and you should have to show your leisure card to get to the designated parking. ƒ

Parking is often problematic during Huskie Football Games on Saturdays. I find the floor in this room sometimes has dirt on it that isn't necessarily visible but palpable.

ƒ

Please fill the pot holes in the parking lot.

ƒ

Tables in the concession area could be cleaned more often although I know it is difficult when there is only 1 person working.

ƒ

The brand of coffee could be improved.

ƒ

The cardio classes in the dance room upstairs can become unbearable because it gets really warm in there. The fans are not adequate; you need air conditioning

ƒ

The FH gravel lot needs grading, it is terrible the shower area in women's change looks dirty, they are aware of the problem and are working on it new track is pretty

ƒ

The floor in the general purpose room upstairs is often dirty - not visible but you can feel it.

ƒ

The parking lot in the back needs paving/fixing...there are some major potholes. The floor mats are sometimes dirty although I think it's been better lately. (since reno's) The step classroom is definitely too small, we are packed in there.

ƒ

The showers could use an overhaul. It is pretty old looking and could use some changes.

ƒ

The side I park on needs to be paved!!

ƒ

The temperature seems to be a problem at the SFH. Usually too hot no matter the time of year.

ƒ

There are some very large potholes in the dirt section of the south parking lot near the entrance from the roadway. They have been there for a very long time and should be filled in. Also the lot could use more gravel so it doesn't get so muddy when it is wet.

ƒ

Ventilation in the fitness room in summer is terrible, it is extremely hot and airless

ƒ

Would like to see the dance room floor cleaned more often. I take the bus to the Field House would like to see a bus go down Field House Road.

ƒ

Would like to see the floor in the dance studio upstairs washed more often. Also I take the bus to the field house with all the buses going by on College Drive would like to see one go down Field House Road closer to the Field House.

ƒ

You need to find a way to keep non-paying students out of the parking lot. The building is very busy in the mornings and having dozens of students parking illegally makes it difficult for all users of the field house.

- 37 -

Appendix D - Improvement suggestions Cosmo Civic Centre ƒ

Have class available during week if possible for those that work weekends

ƒ

I would definitely appreciate classes to be continued at Cosmo. This facility is close to my home so very convenient. The first few weeks classes were very well attended. I think enrollment fell because of the uncertainty of an available instructor and varying class times offered.

ƒ

Make more available on weekends as opposed to during the week or multiples of the same classes like one on the weekend and one during the work week

ƒ

Make sure that there are enough instructors trained so that classes are not cut.

ƒ

Offer more classes at Cosmo

ƒ

Several of the classes that were offered at Cosmo have had to be cancelled because of instructor shortage. Monday step class, Wednesday step class

ƒ

Subsidies would be nice for seniors, or anyone else on a limited income,

ƒ

The belly dancing class and the cardio tease and tone are each only offered once a week. I would like to attend both of them every week but unfortunately I can't always fit it into my schedule. I would like to see these classes offered more times per week.

ƒ

The facility used to offer more noon hour classes, which worked great for myself and my co-workers. Some of these classes have been cut, but the Leisure Card price has remained the same.

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre ƒ

Aqua fitness staffing is a problem. When they do have excellent staff such as April, Joanne and Shirley they should make a concerted effort to ensure that they remain. Accommodations should be made to ensure that their work place is efficient and staff are appreciated by management.

The sound system should be on and

ready BEFORE they arrive so they do not have to waste time trying to make it work. ƒ

As I mentioned, more evening classes. I really like the deep water class and Harry Bailey is the only option so it really needs to stay open. The quality of the instructors is quite uneven. Some need some help.

ƒ

Do we sign in OR not? Varies with different people attending front desk.

ƒ

Doing ok.

ƒ

Give us a little more time to get into the water and adjust to the temperature before classes start

ƒ

Have a Friday instructor!!! Also offer more classes or deep water at other facilities

ƒ

Have child care available at more civic centres (ie Bailey) and at more times.

ƒ

Having instructors on a consistent basis - I go to HB and Lawson often and this fall there have been too many cancellations due to lack of instructor. Also, going to HB for a "self-directed" deep water aquacise is not something I will do - I will go elsewhere for a class with an instructor.

ƒ

I don't think it was appropriate for our instructor to have brought her child, especially since she let him swim around all the fitness class members. He could have swam in a separate area. Just not appropriate. I know all of us class members weren't impressed, so it definitely pushed people away from the class in the future.

ƒ

I have only taken the aquacise and the muscle sculpt classes(at Field House) but will try to attend a few different ones so I can better address this question. I have also used both gyms which I find to be adequate although not sure I like the choice of radio station at Harry Bailey. Also HB needs a small clear area for yoga stretching either in the gym or on deck. (non slip).

ƒ

I like the classes and instructors as is.

- 38 -

ƒ

I think the drop in service is an excellent idea and the program is good but the water is way to cold for older people who are attending.

ƒ

I wish they held a class on Monday - Aqua Motion II

ƒ

If lane swimming could start 15-30 minutes earlier would be better for me but Everything else is great!

ƒ

Mix up the exercises a bit, they are very repetitive, increase temperature of water, make hot tub available more

ƒ

More early evening classes

ƒ

More instructors

ƒ

More instructors

ƒ

More instructors

ƒ

More instructors

ƒ

More instructors.

ƒ

More variety, times

ƒ

No comment .........you are doing great!

ƒ

No complaint, maybe the water could be a little warmer

ƒ

Offer more classes during the week, instead of just twice on Monday and Wednesday. Evenings - could make it also Friday or Thursday Evenings!

ƒ

Offer more evening classes that deal with aquasizing.

ƒ

Offer more types of classes in the evenings

ƒ

Staff at the front desk more friendly

ƒ

When I signed up there was aquafitness Mon to Fri and now there is no instructor for Mon and Fri and those was the days that were more convenient for me so it is disappointing that now I can only go on Wed and Thur instead of three times a week.

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

Adapt the class to the number in attendance for example, move from shallow to deep end rather than across the pool from one side to the other.

ƒ

Add another boxercise 2 class during the week

ƒ

ADD MORE GENTLE YOGA CLASSES!!

ƒ

Add more yoga classes so there are better instructor ratios, consider offering more variety during the 9:4510:45 time slot aimed at families of preschool age children since this facility offers the childcare.

ƒ

As previously mentioned offer classes more often.

ƒ

Based on the Tuesday morning classes, there is no need for improvement.

ƒ

Better access to the hot tub at all hours during the day. In other words do not close it down for cleaning while there are people there to use the tub.

ƒ

Better music

ƒ

Better suit the fitness level

ƒ

Consider more than 1 class on Sunday - class is often very full

ƒ

Could have the temperature of the pool regulated. Some times it is much too cold.

ƒ

Decrease the cost of drop in price

- 39 -

ƒ

Decrease the price of the drop in fee -rarely is there an adequate selection of free weights for classes microphone rarely, if ever, works for the entire class, as compared to other facilities with the ever increasing rates of the leisure cards

ƒ

Do not let them get too crowded!!

ƒ

Don't let the classes become too crowded.

ƒ

Encourage the instructors to arrive more than 5 minutes before classes to speak with participants. By arriving at the last minute they seem aloof and rushed.

ƒ

ENJOY AQUAFITNESS AFTER A SHORT BREAK AFTER A BOXERCISE CLASS BOTH CLASSES CNA COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER WHILE BEING OFFERED THE SAME AS THEY ARE ON WEDNESDAY BUT ALSO OFFERED ON MONDAY AND FRIDAY

ƒ

Everything is good with the class and the instructor makes the class!! Don’t lose her or you will have decreased numbers in the class.

ƒ

Extend the hours that the day care is open so I can avail myself of a greater variety of classes

ƒ

Find an instructor for the Tuesday section of this class

ƒ

FLOOR MATS, DUMB BELLS REQUIRE REGULAR CLEANING. COOL WATER FOUNTAIN INSIDE THE GYM'S STORE WILL BE GREAT. PROVISION OF CLEAN TOWELS, FRUITS AND SALE OF SWIM SUITS, SPORT WEARS FOR EMERGENCY WILL BE NICE.

ƒ

Have a variety of fitness instructors so the classes won't be cancelled on little to no notice such as last winter were there were numerous cancellations and no refunds offered or time extended.

ƒ

Have enough classes that they weren't so full, have better trained instructors, some are great, but many are not good.

ƒ

Have more classes available during evening hours.

ƒ

Have more variety of classes in the evening for those of us who work during the day.

ƒ

I notice that there are very limited choices for Tuesdays at Lakewood. I also take in the Walk and Sculpt with Carla and the class is very good. I wish we could fill the void for Tuesday mornings!

ƒ

I only attend the low impact class and am very pleased

ƒ

I think everything is good with the drop in classes.

ƒ

I would really like to see a yoga fitness 1 class added at a time slot after 6:15pm.I work 9:00-6:00 every day, an evening class would sure work into my schedule.

ƒ

If possible, offer drop in classes in more time slots.

ƒ

Improve the music system, as the instructors have difficulty adjusting the volume which then drops off anyway.

ƒ

Improved front counter service, more accurate description about what each class offered is, not making personal phone calls

ƒ

It appears that efforts are being made to improve the "clothes pin" entry - good! It still is rather crowded some mornings.

ƒ

It is too bad that there is a problem getting instructors for all classes. I was disappointed when the Tuesday Aquacize classes were cancelled for this term as that is usually a good night for me.

ƒ

It would be beneficial if there were more low impact classes through out the week. I also attend Orpha's class at the Field House but work full time nights so it is hard to find classes that fit into my schedule. I do not enjoy the high intensity classes but find that there is limited number of classes for my level I am not a senior but most of the classes I am either interested in or am able to attend are geared for seniors. More weight training class options would be nice as well as better advertising on the classes available in my area.

ƒ

It would be nice to see a couple of drop-in fitness classes at all locations such as having an aqua one at Lakewood.

- 40 -

ƒ

It would be preferable if the yoga class was at a time to enable attendance at both yoga and aqua

ƒ

It would make it more worth the money if the facilities weren't closed as often. The week of closure in December makes purchasing a leisure pass somewhat less attractive.

ƒ

It's alright as is

ƒ

Its excellent

ƒ

Level 1 yoga around 10:00 am. 3 classes in the morning would reduce crowding.

ƒ

Limit the number of participants, enforcing the rule at the front, once the number has signed in then the class is full. It is not up to the instructor to monitor numbers, this needs to be done prior to entering the pool. Giving out clothes pins was not always the answer but if one did not have a pin on you should be asked to leave that class.

ƒ ƒ

Looking for a swimming instructor to teach Saturday & Sunday mornings Please Make sure all involved, front desk staff, instructors and life guards, know what policies are and are ready to enforce them. This applies in particular to signing in and class size

ƒ

Make sure instructors are available at all times

ƒ

Make sure the number of participants are limited as they say they are. Times the classes are too large and not much room for movement. I also do a fitness class in the gym which I find excellent but last winter it was very cold in there and had to have a jacket or sweater on for most of the class.

ƒ

More boxercise 1 classes per week. Thursdays are the only days that are bad for me. Maybe a Monday and Tuesday evening class (6-7 pm). Or a Saturday class.

ƒ

More step 2 and yoga classes in the evening. Do things to keep your better instructors from leaving; for example pay a wage in line with other facilities.

ƒ

More yoga classes

ƒ

Offer a larger variety of classes during the evening hours

ƒ

Offer DIFFERENT classes at different locations at the same time (eg. Muscle sculpt is offered at both Lawson & Field House Mon @ 8pm-maybe when a class is duplicated at 2 locations, offer the class @ 2 different times). A Sunday MORNING class would be nice throughout the year (eg. 10am).

Offer more classes

during Summer (I like to maintain my fitness routine throughout the Summer just as much as the other months, & the limited summer classes make it VERY difficult). Evening classes are especially limited during summer (eg. It would be nice to see the Friday 5:30 class year round). When the Field House classes are cancelled for special events, it would be nice if some of the classes could be moved to Lakewood or Lawson (there are no classes at these facilities when the weekend classes at Field House are cancelled). The air conditioning could be improved at all the facilities (especially the Field House-it can be unbearable in the summer-but maybe this was improved with the renovations?? Don't know yet!). I have witnessed issues with the sound systems at both Lakewood & Field House-it's annoying when the class is interrupted because the participants can't hear the instructor. ƒ

Offer more cardio & sculpt, muscle sculpt and boxercise classes both at Lakewood and the Field House. Offer later evenings like 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. And offer classes Monday and Friday evenings.

ƒ

Offer more classes

ƒ

Offer more classes in the evening

ƒ

OFFER MORE CLASSES THAT ARE ATTRACTIVE TO MOST PEOPLE. BOXERCISE IS VERY POPULAR AND SHOULD BE OFFERED THREE TIMES A WEEK ON STAGERED DAYS, M,W,F,I ALSOGO TO THE WEIGHT ROOM AFTER BOX AND THEN DO AN AQUACISE CLASS. IF BOX DAYS ARE CHANGED A AQUAFITNESS CLASS MUST FOLLOW SHORTLY AFTER

ƒ

Offer more evening yoga classes

ƒ

Offer more in the afternoon

- 41 -

ƒ

Offer popular classes like yoga that only have a limited space, in a bigger area so more people can attend and not have to worry about not being one of twenty five allowed to participate.

ƒ

Offer updated training for instructors. Make sure equipment is in good condition -- some mats are old and in sorry condition.

ƒ

Our class is very large and has people at many different levels. It would be helpful to have another gentle yoga class a couple times a week.

ƒ

Our instructor has sets which are good. As a drop-in attendee later into the fall, I would have liked her to offer to go over some of the sets with the newcomers -- even after the class, or while people are doing the walking around the track - to help bring us on board.

ƒ

Possibly decrease size of class

ƒ

Provide instructors for all classes - currently the Tues am - low impact walk & sculpt is not being offered

ƒ

Provide more classes through out the day

ƒ

Provide more evening classes. Have better, more experienced instructors. Keep the experienced instructors you currently employ happy. Pay them what the going rate is and they may stick around.

ƒ

Put a ceiling heater in the family change room by the door. It is cold in there especially when there is a child holding the door open so the wind is cold. Also people who bring the LARGE strollers into the pool area pushing it through the changing rooms. This tracks in mud to the changing rooms and pool area. Walkers are required for people to move but these large strollers take up too much room and are not hygienic. Also I’ve had to dispose of dirty diapers left in the family change room and I feel the parents should be made aware that they actually are responsible for this and not the people who use the room after them.

ƒ

Right after work classes fit busy working people's schedules

ƒ

See comments provided earlier in the survey, would prefer to have more classes offered later during the 8 9 pm session.

ƒ

Sometimes the classes are very full especially at Lakewood, so maybe more classes in the early evening.

I

really enjoy yoga and just started this year. I was not aware these classes were open to me with my membership. ƒ

Sometimes too crowded in pool for Aquafitness class.

The water temperature seems to vary.

It would be

nice to always have it just right, not too cool or too warm. ƒ

Sort out the sound system as mentioned earlier.

ƒ

Stagger classes so not everyone is in the change room at the same time. Can get very congested.

ƒ

Stagger scheduling of classes for children and adult classes so all are not in the already too small change room at the same time

ƒ

Stagger swim times so the dressing room isn't so crowded. Tots and mothers are competing for space with us.

ƒ

Temperature control a problem in the gym

ƒ

The aqua classes are totally ridiculously way too full. Can't do anything properly

ƒ

The Aqua drop in classes are totally ridiculously way too ful. Can't do anything properly

ƒ

The locker room space is very crowded at times. The class times could be staggered so that exiting and arriving patrons are not all in the locker room at the same time. The shower area is also over crowded when 2 classes are exiting and some arriving.

ƒ

The yoga class I take is excellent and I don't think there is anything I would improve....maybe it could be 1/2 hour longer!

ƒ

There are not very many fitness yoga 1 classes in the evening. People who work or go to school can not attend the classes during the day. If there were more evening yoga classes, I would go more often. The one evening class there is is always very full so attendance wouldn't be a problem.

- 42 -

ƒ

There aren’t enough weights for when a class is full at Lakewood.

ƒ

Try to offer more classes.

ƒ

Update regulations to prohibit strollers in change rooms and pool area, outside shoes are not allowed in the pool area, children's stroller wheels are not clean and in addition do not allow proper access to family change rooms

ƒ

Very hard to hear instructors in pool area

ƒ

Watch how many are allowed into the class at one time

ƒ

Would really like to see more earlier evening classes if there were more instructors

Lawson Civic Centre ƒ

1. Have a set communications protocol for instructors to follow when they arrange for a substitute. 2. Make arrangements to have classes taught on holidays. 3. Have more programming for seniors--for example, more entry level classes with kind instructors who are sensitized to the creaking and deteriorating joints of the geriatric set. (This will be the emerging demographic profile as the baby boomers age. Some of us can no longer do what we did when we were young, but we want to continue exercising.

ƒ

Add more classes to Cosmo Civic Centre

ƒ

As I live in Westview, I would much prefer to use the Harry Bailey facilities BUT - the water is always too cold and many of the instructors (compared to Karen) have left a lot to be desired, when we even had one.

ƒ

As you already are aware, more instructors are needed and these instructors need to have the necessary qualifications and experience.

ƒ

By having instructors at each class!!!

ƒ

By offering an instructor on Fridays so that we are not required to attend a facility on the other side of the city. Another suggestion is that if an instructor is not available that a tape recording of their instruction be made available.

ƒ

Clean mats

ƒ

Develop and hire adequate number of instructors so that one will be assured of there always being an instructor to teach the scheduled classes

ƒ

Earlier start times if possible.

ƒ

Faster music and more cardio would be nice but it is acceptable the way it.

ƒ

Focused youth programs and/or one-time free classes with athletes from U of S and/or Huskies teams for football, hockey, basketball, etc. To do a drill session, etc.

ƒ

Have classes at 5pmish so you can go on your way home from work at Lawson

ƒ

Have more instructors so we would not have 'self-directed' classes

ƒ

I am satisfied

ƒ

I like the way Lawson pool has 4 days of instruction with Friday to do my own thing.

ƒ

I only take the Aquamotion classes so I can't comment on the other classes. I think that the schedules are excellent in many ways but I think I might be nice for more classes at night. I don't know if you would get more people or not. I know if you work all day most of the time people just want to relax and don't have the energy to go out for a workout.

ƒ

I think it is very good now......

ƒ

I think that they are excellent

ƒ

I think they are pretty good just the way they are.

- 43 -

ƒ

I would like to see Aqua Motion 2 classes in the evenings at Lawson Civic Centre. Also, the evening class should start closer to 7:00 p.m.

ƒ

I would like to see Gentle Yoga offered at least once a week at this facility (Preferably Tues or Thurs as I also participate in Bosom Buddies (which I would prefer started at 1:15 or 1:30). My husband would prefer early morning classes for Fit Yoga I

ƒ

I'm pretty satisfied with their services.

ƒ

Instructors who push us a bit are more likely to be highly regarded.

ƒ

It would be nice to have more instructors, but I realize this is a difficult area to fill

ƒ

Keep offering them

ƒ

More

ƒ

More classes

ƒ

More instructors so more classes can be offered during the day or certainly so the present ones do not need to be cancelled. I know this is a challenge and a problem at other facilities also.

ƒ

More options of classes

ƒ

More options of classes

ƒ

More varieties of classes

ƒ

More yoga classes like the Friday noon class

ƒ

You need more instructors.

ƒ

Offer classes on Friday evening or a class at Lawson on Sat. Morning or Sunday afternoon

ƒ

Offer more classes at the Lakewood civic center in the evening or early morning between 6:30am-8:00am so that I could attend

ƒ

Offer programming for kids too

ƒ

Post on the website when a class is cancelled so you don’t just show up without knowing.

ƒ

So far, so good. I can't think of anything right now. Oh, offer more classes at the Cosmo civic centre.

ƒ

Some of the fitness equipment is deteriorating, such as ripped and/or dried up elastic bands and rubber tension cords (in the free-weights closet in the Multipurpose room). These should be maintained more often.

ƒ

The hot tub could be drained at a different time on Fridays. Help arthritic pains.

ƒ

They classes themselves are great I would just like to see more classes offered on the week-ends or Friday late afternoon evening.

ƒ

They pretty much do all they can. I'm sure it's hard to find more instructors.

ƒ

Try and have them earlier in the evening, say around 7

ƒ

We could have more morning step classes at Lawson Civic centre. There is no instructor for Mon.,Wed, Fri. Classes

ƒ

What is offered now is acceptable for my purposes

ƒ

Would be nice if they had instructors for all classes that they offer---

ƒ

You need more instructors as Mon. Wed. And Fri. Morning classes have had to be dropped.

like last year!

Saskatoon Field House ƒ

A schedule posted at the facility (which is easily visible) that shows the time, location, and name of instructor of all the classes.

ƒ

Add more evening classes in the summer for the working person. Add more step II classes. Keep the experienced instructors; one way would be to pay them what the going rate is at other facilities.

- 44 -

ƒ ƒ

Add more step classes. The summer program needs more evening classes for the people who work. Add more step II classes. Improve summer programming by adding more classes in evening especially step. Keep your experienced instructors. Do not allow new instructors to lead intermediate to advanced classes, this just creates a bad situation as at this level there are certain expectations and if they are not met then everyone is unhappy.

ƒ

Better equipment for the aerobics class. Better microphone for Orfa. Cleaner floor.

ƒ

Better Instructors - more options at other facilities. I only go for the instructor and the class. I like Leah, Glen, Marly & Kristyn. If an instructor is poor, I will not go to that class. Need better yoga instructors.

ƒ

Bigger area because it was so crowded

ƒ

Classes could be improved by having more around 5:30 pm, then 4:30 as many people work later.

ƒ

Continue to add additional options for fitness

ƒ

Could provide more around 5pm.

ƒ

Could take note of classes that are completely filled and maybe move them to a larger room.

ƒ

Decrease the cost for people who pay the drop in fee

ƒ

Decrease the drop in price for those who don't have a leisure card

ƒ

Ensure parking for class attendees during track & field meets - I don't mind walking, but I am usually hurrying after work and don't have time to wander around or deal with traffic congestion. As well, while I do understand the needs of individuals making use of the fitness/cardio centre, and appreciate that at times the music in some classes can be a bit loud :), many forget that these are classes that require music and have come in and harassed the instructor. Maybe post a "let's co-operate" sign to remind people to be civil to each other.

ƒ

First, there is a core group of us that use the SFH on a regular basis because we like the classes, the instructors and because our friends are there. Over the past two years we have faced many disruptions of classes because the SFH was rented out to other groups and lately because of renovations. If the City of Saskatoon wishes to be in the exercise "business", then it should realize that these constant disruptions is eroding its loyal base of customers (i.e. Those that would refer others to the SFH). If on the other hand, the City of Saskatoon wishes to be in the facility rental "business", then it should get out of offering fitness classes at its leisure facilities! Getting an extension on our leisure cards is a good gesture to help smooth over disruptions, but it would be even better if the city would serve its leisure patrons better by ensuring there are as few disruptions as possible.

On a more specific note, we still have a few fitness instructors

who play their music too loudly, or allow patrons to push them into cranking up the music. All we really need to hear is the beat, and the instructors' voices.

Also, Lakeview and Lawson have lots of morning

fitness yoga classes but they are not at a convenient location for me. Could we please have at least one more fitness yoga class which starts earlier than 11:00? More early afternoon classes would also be great. ƒ

For new classes a introduction time of 30 min would get more people to try them

ƒ

FYI - I love the yoga fit program and try to attend 5 classes a week (Field house and elsewhere) and I thought it was important for you to know because it wasn't really reflected in this survey (unless I goofed up). Classes I typically attend include Tues noon or evening, Thurs evening, Friday morning, Saturday noon at the Field house; Sunday afternoon at Lakewood). I enjoy all the yogafit instructors i've had the pleasure to meet in the 5 1/2 years I’ve been participating in this program as they all add their own personal touch to the program. Most of the instructors today are less willing to do 'hands-on' corrections; I have noticed this to be a less emphasized part of the program since Irene Jesper has not been instructing and respect that this may reflect personal style as most instructors do emphasize the importance of each person tailoring the yoga program to the individual and to not push beyond what personally feels good. Also, I, and others, have been doing this program for a few years now and we are all saddened by the lack of an advanced yoga fit class, which used to be offered 1 night per week. I have always attended the evening, noon hour and weekend yoga classes at the Field house (and Lakewood) as these times work best around my work

- 45 -

schedule as I work full time on the U of S campus. This is a great program and I continue to encourage new people to sign up today. ƒ

Get a cd player that works and same for the mics the instructors use

ƒ

Great facility

ƒ

Have a few more that are at night after seven for people that work different hours or early in the morning.

ƒ

Have drop in baby-friendly classes (i.e. drop in mom-baby classes rather than just registered classes.) I already have a leisure pass so I do not want to pay extra to enroll in a mom-baby class. The childcare hours are very short and not at a time that I can make us of them. Extending the childcare hours to accommodate the noon classes & possibly some Sat & Sun classes would be an improvement.

ƒ

Have more classes after work at about 5pm during the week. Have fewer cancellations due to other activities at the field house. Have a better method of informing patrons about cancellations like email

ƒ

Have more classes in the afternoon, have exercise ball classes at more locations

ƒ

Have more classes offered at 8pm

ƒ

Have more classes on the weekends and early in the morning

ƒ

Have more of them

ƒ

Have the front end staff be well informed of the programs and services offered - including holiday scheduling.

ƒ

I am not really sure. I am very happy that there are early morning spin classes now. I plan to participate in those if I can drag myself out of bed.

ƒ

I can't think of any way it could be improved.

ƒ

I can't think of anything at the time.

ƒ

I don't like when the classes are held upstairs. I am a male and I wish the classes had more male attendance, as it can feel awkward being the only male in the class. Sometimes the classes seem very geared for women. Maybe this is intentional.

ƒ

I feel at the Field House they do a great job at offering a very good variety of classes.

ƒ

I find that the classes offered at the field house are better, but there is more room at Lakewood.

ƒ

I like the classes. I like the instructors. Sometimes I would like to have more class options available, however, I am very satisfied with the programming.

ƒ

I personally only attend the spin class so the times that are offered work fine for me.

ƒ

I think they are good the way they are.

ƒ

I think they're fine already or encourage a "bring a friend" to a drop in - like 2 for the price of 1?? Sounds like a good idea not???

ƒ

I would enjoy the aerobic and step classes more if the routines were changed or new moves added a little more often. I think it would keep me motivated.

ƒ

I would like more 4:30 classes at other facilities, i.e. Lawson.

ƒ

I would like there to be more options for drop-in classes in the evening (after 8:30pm), so that I could attend after my children are in bed.

ƒ

I would like to do two classes in a row of different variety. There are usually 2 at the same time but not after another

ƒ

I would like to see an evening yogafit class that is more advanced than level 1

ƒ

I would love to see more spin classes in the evenings.

ƒ

I would really like it if there was childcare in the afternoon. I find I am very limited to the classes I can take because childcare it only for 2 1/2 hours in the morning.

- 46 -

ƒ

I would really like to see a spin class in the morning time between 9:15 and 11:30. With children in school it is difficult to attend the other spin classes.

ƒ

It would be great if there was a pre-class session for beginners where you just learned the steps on their own first...

ƒ

It would be great if there were more spin classes. I took spin classes at another facility this summer and they had a spin studio set up - with a more elaborate sound system. The music was used to motivate us something I don't see happening at the Field House. I also enjoyed Boxercise II last year, but the instructor has since left. She had a packed class every session because we knew she'd give us a good workout. Since then, its gone downhill.

ƒ

Keep up good work

ƒ

Less down time in the Field house due to track meets and other shows

ƒ

Like I mentioned before, it would be nice if at least one of the Low Impact aerobic classes was a little earlier than 7:00 on both Tuesday and Thursday.

ƒ

Make sure instructors have a background in the class they are teaching (ex: Boxercise)

ƒ

Make sure they are not cancelled!

ƒ

Make the class less expensive. Five Dollars would be a more reasonable price for 1 hour of exercise.

ƒ

More afternoon classes

ƒ

More class options in the evening

ƒ

More classes

ƒ

More days and times

ƒ

More evening cardio class options (8:00 on or even 7:00 on)please!, between Field House and Lakewood the regular classes at convenient times seem to exclude thursday/friday for example, unless you want striptease or group dance. What about just a regular step or boxercise class somewhere in there?

ƒ

More level one classes offered after the supper hour.

ƒ

More mirrors on walls so that you can see your self

ƒ

More muscle sculpt needs to be offered

ƒ

More Muscle Sculpting and Step 1 Classes in the morning...

ƒ

More of the same class offered during the week

ƒ

More options for younger kids

ƒ

More time selections for popular classes, in the morning it is busy with walkers so it is hard to do the run at the start of class and it also makes parking more difficult.

ƒ

More times, more choices

ƒ

More yoga classes throughout the week and at various times of the day at Field House and Lakewood facilities

ƒ

Need more classes in the evenings

ƒ

Need more room, it's a very full class

ƒ

Never ever have a class with no instructor. When there are 20 people that have taken the time to come to the facility someone needs to always be there to take on the class.

ƒ

Not much to suggest; there is a good variety over a range of times.

ƒ

Not necessary drop in fitness, but would appreciate the field house being open later in the evening maybe 11:00

ƒ

Offer more classes a little later in the day. Most people work until 5-5:30 so classes that start at 4:30 or 5 are a little early. I would like more spin classes. Air conditioning in the summer!!

- 47 -

ƒ

Offer more later morning classes

ƒ

Offer more of the ones already there at different times

ƒ

Offer more of the same classes on different days of the week

ƒ

Offer more of this class

ƒ

Offer more spin classes. Every early morning during the week, and every evening during the week. It would also help to offer spin classes during daycare hours.

ƒ

Offer more than one class during the lunch hour. Have an "On-the-ball" class at lunch at the Field House

ƒ

Offer more then 2 step I classes a week

ƒ

Offer more types of classes at more times.

ƒ

Offer some additional classes at Cosmo Civic Centre. Offer more smart start classes. Offer more day time classes during the week. Additional classes for moms and babies on a drop-in basis; bellies and bums is an excellent class but do not want to have to pay for a leisure pass plus a registration fee.

ƒ

Offer some intermediate level drop in fitness classes at Cosmo civic centre. The classes offered there are very limited and only beginner level. I have to travel a long distance to go to your other facilities as a result of this. Very few or No kids programs are offered. Please change this!!

ƒ

Offer Spin I and Spin II to prove options to the participants for the intensity level in the class.

ƒ

Offer spin, and yoga classes during times that the daycare facilities are open. Maybe adding one of those classes at 9:15 AM on Wednesday would work.

ƒ

Offer them more often and at more times.

ƒ

Offering a little bit more in the evening. I would really like to attend yoga during the week but it is earlier than most other classes and i work until 6pm on Thursdays

ƒ

Offering more classes - have trouble getting classes like the muscle sculpt and yoga for evenings -

ƒ

Overall I was satisfied

ƒ

Personally I enjoy the 4:30 fitness classes. More at that time would suit me.

ƒ

Proper ventilation i.e. heat and air conditioning working properly at appropriate times

ƒ

Provide a better program for mentoring new instructors. Have a progression program in place for new instructors, in other words they should not be leading classes they have never taken before or instruct at a level they are not ready to instruct at. Pay your instructors a competitive wage with other gyms so that you don't have a hard time keeping quality instructors. Even the City of Regina understands this concept. Try keeping your members happy by offering some kind of compensation for all the closures that happen through out the year. For example: A one year membership should get a month free... I felt the handling of the SFH last summer was very poor and the compensation was ZERO... I was very, very unhappy about this and will take along time to get over and how the members were treated and this is why I would not recommend the SFH to anyone looking for a gym they can depend on for their fitness program. It just happens to work for me (when it's open) and I am use to looking elsewhere for a class but not everyone will put up with this...

ƒ

Provide alternate locations for classes that are cancelled when the facility is closed, especially for time periods when there are limited options at other facilities. For example, in the summer and on the weekends, the Field house is the only facility that has multiple classes. When the Field house is closed, there are limited options elsewhere. Also, it is very frustrating to arrange your schedule to attend a class and find out it has been cancelled at the last minute. I understand this can't be helped in certain situations but it seems to happen all too often.

ƒ

Provide more bike racks and/or move the one decent one out of the bushes for heavens sake! This would also encourage participants to not drive and help with the shortage of parking.

ƒ

Provide more classes at varying times at each location.

- 48 -

ƒ

Provide more than one noon yoga fitness 1 class. Also I did like on the ball classes for muscle fitness.

ƒ

Put it downstairs (in the middle of the track) because it gets really full in the upstairs room sometimes

ƒ

Show adds everywhere in the city

ƒ

Some floor aerobic would be nice in the mornings, and the Monday ball class and muscle class are at the same time, it would be nice to be offered at different times of the day, we could use both instead of having to choose.

ƒ

Some new instructors would be a breath of fresh air providing they were good.

ƒ

Some of the equipment needs to be replaced

ƒ

Stop using the upstairs room. Too hot, not allowed to open door, too small. Confusion as to where my class is going to be held. That makes me late for my class

ƒ

The stereo upstairs needs replacing. It skips a lot.

ƒ

There are several participants who use facilities in Regina and Saskatoon. It would be great if the two cities would offer a combo use for facility card users. I use to have an annual pass for Saskatoon. Now I have an annual pass for Regina and use bulk tickets in Saskatoon.

ƒ

They are doing a great job.

ƒ

They are good the way they are.

ƒ

They could have the same classes but at different times

ƒ

They could offer a few different varieties of evening classes at both the Field House and Lakewood.

ƒ

They do a great job.

ƒ

They should provide the public with 1 - 2 week free passes to bring new people to the facility, or provide existing members with guest passes so they may bring friends to classes. This may encourage people who have never used the facility or tried the classes to get Leisure Cards.

ƒ

Ventilation, spray bottles and paper towel ALWAYS available to clean mats (yuck!)

ƒ

We need a spin class when there is child care offered

ƒ

Weekend child care at the FH clone Natalie

ƒ

Would like to see more variety in classes as well as more evening options.

Appendix E - New program ideas The majority of customers enjoyed their visit to our facility on the day of the evaluation. Cosmo Civic Centre ƒ

Hip hop dance, pilates

ƒ

I am middle aged therefore I attend the stretch your limit; osteo & yoga. It's been great.

ƒ

I really like the dance-style related ones. It makes it more interesting.

ƒ

Muscle sculpting noon class would be awesome! Also would like the present core body class to involve more exercises using the ball. At the present the ball has only been used in one exercise.

ƒ

On the ball, muscle sculpting, cardio

ƒ

Pilates or kickboxing at the CCC would be great

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre ƒ

A step class

ƒ

Dance classes, such as hip-hop, belly dancing, just a few ideas!

ƒ

I want to try the kayaking if earlier

ƒ

I would like to see a swimming stroke improvement class or similar offered in the early morning swim times after the swim clubs have left. For example. Tues and Thurs at 7.30 am. I would like to learn how to read the swim program board and have a couple of alternate workouts to follow.

ƒ

It would be nice to have it away from the younger kids as they are distracting the class.

ƒ

Maybe an aqua 3 class

ƒ

Perhaps yoga classes

ƒ

Pilates

ƒ

Possibly yoga classes

ƒ

Swimming improvements instructions like a group class in mornings

ƒ

The core body class from last year at HBC on Thursday noon was very challenging and an excellent class using mostly the exercise balls. The one this year is at more of a beginner level and balls are rarely used. Perhaps something like last years could be offered at Lawson where the multi purpose room is larger (more clients) and more applicable to this class

ƒ

There is no instructor for Mondays. That means if you have to miss a Friday class you miss 4 days until Tuesday: not good.

Lakewood Civic Centre ƒ

3d fusion class

ƒ

An adult learn to swim class or a class for adults who are afraid to put their heads under the water at the Lakewood facility.

ƒ

Aquaboxercise. Kicking in water is great for stretching and low impact

ƒ

Boxercise more often m,w,f, aquafitness offered shortly after on same days. This is a great class for more cardio and to stretch and relax after box

ƒ

Classes are very crowded, both aquasize and yoga. Could more gentle classes be added.

ƒ

Have a ladies only over 50 for weights ... So we do not feel so intimidated haha

- 50 -

ƒ

I find spinning classes very motivating and challenging, but you likely wouldn't have access to enough exercise bikes to use for the class.

ƒ

I have arthritis so it would need to be similar to yoga, or pilates.

ƒ

I hope the leisure centers continue to offer cardio and tease. It's a great class

ƒ

I think they have a good variety of water and land classes now.

ƒ

I think you are doing a great job

ƒ

I would like to see a Friday night class but prefer the location at the field house as it's more convenient for me but that's being pretty greedy on my part.

ƒ

I would love it if a tai chi class would be offered at this branch. That would be fantastic.

ƒ

If the price of leisurecards will increase yearly, how about enough equipment for the classes, and a working microphone?

ƒ

If there was a later morning class i would select a 10 or 11 am instead of 9:15. But it is still pretty good.

ƒ

Just more of what you have muscle sculpting, cardio and boxercise, love those classes and more times.

ƒ

Karen's (yoga instructor) 3d fusion class ask her about it... Great class, someone should offer it!

ƒ

Kickboxing

ƒ

Kickboxing or a beginners step class?

ƒ

Last year we had a 3d fusion class instead of a yoga/boxercise class that was advertised, that i would like to have back as part of my entrance fee into the facility.

ƒ

Low impact/sculpt that would appeal to men - not timed steps to music.

ƒ

Maybe more classes for seniors

ƒ

Moms and tots aquacicing in lakewood, extend the hours of the day care

ƒ

More yoga classes

ƒ

More classes suited to over 50 workout

ƒ

More for seniors

ƒ

More mom and baby type classes

ƒ

Pilates

ƒ

Pilates and belly dancing

ƒ

Pilates!!!!!! Belly-dancing!

ƒ

Pilates, hot yoga.

ƒ

Pilates, tai chi, have the "on the ball" and "core" classes at Lakewood

ƒ

Possibly more activities designed for seniors.

ƒ

Some sort of dance class

ƒ

Stripercise class, would really be interested in going to that. I don't know if the tease and sculpt is like it or not, i haven't been able to get to it because Thursdays are a bad day for me to get to the gym

ƒ

Tai chi

ƒ

There have been rumors that the quad class on wed evening may be cancelled... That would be very unfortunate and would cause a few complaints... Talk to Karen about her 3d fusion class she ran at the SFH last year, this was an excellent class, i would like to see this class added to your program.

ƒ

Tia chi

ƒ

Toddler and mom fitness class

ƒ

Traditional yoga classes

ƒ

Trainers night out - cardio fat burning exercise coordinated by a professional trainer. 5mins. On every machines while you go in a particular order.

ƒ

Would like to see a yoga 11 class at the Lakewood centre

ƒ

Yoga in the evening

ƒ

You may try implementing a yoga class suited for elderly patrons that is a level below gentle. This would free up space in the gentle class & give you added income from another class.

Lawson Civic Centre ƒ

Senior Step (limited turns and squats to accommodate those arthritic knees) *Geriatric Muscle Sculpt (no need to feel guilty if you can no longer do all the reps) *more yoga classes of all varieties as long as they are taught by compassionate people (This is an activity that seems to appeal to the older set.)

ƒ

A gentle yoga class would be nice.

ƒ

A pilates class would be another good class to offer.

ƒ

Bosu Ball/Bosu Ball Step

ƒ

Bosu ball/Bosu ball step, Intro level spin and or step

ƒ

Bosu ball/Bosu ball step, Intro level step, Intro level spin

ƒ

Boxercise

ƒ

Dance classes

ƒ

Evening yoga classes at the Lawson location

ƒ

Exercise balls need to be checked regularly to ensure they are adequately inflated

ƒ

Hot yoga

ƒ

I would LOVE to see a Pilates class offered, or even a belly dancing class or something fun like that.

ƒ

Maybe it is offered but unknown to me, a power fitness class in the weight room.

ƒ

More drop in classes at Cosmo. Very few drop in classes offered there.

ƒ

More muscle sclupt

ƒ

Pilates

ƒ

Pilates class would be great

ƒ

Some type of fun dance class that would offer a variety of dance types not requiring a partner, and is offered during the day. I.e. Line dancing, belly dancing, salsa, jazz, and any other type of dance that can be done without a partner. Preferably each class would have two types of dance featured - mainly for fun, but also for mild fitness

ƒ

Weight Watchers should be back at the leisure centre, as alot of people have to travel to two different locations now

ƒ

Yoga

Saskatoon Field House ƒ

A class that's half cardio and half muscle sculpt

ƒ

A core muscle/track training

ƒ

A free trial run with a personal trainer??

ƒ

A hip-hop type class or something similar to quantum's centergy class. I haven't been to the yoga yet but quantum does it kind of choreographed to music that was really fun and interesting.

ƒ

A more high impact aerobic class in the evening. Another boxersize class on Thurs.

ƒ

A really good noon mix up class with tia chi, boxercise etc. We need the noon hour class mixed up more. Many of us have been there for years and need something different offered

ƒ

Am very pleased with the addition of the spin class.

ƒ

Ask Karen about her 3d fusion class, it was an awesome class and should have been added to the program. Don't be afraid to try new things how about the cardio tease class offered at Lakewood...

ƒ

Belly dancing!

ƒ

Classes for kids! My son is 11 years old and has a leisure pass, but there are no drop in classes offered for kids anywhere in this whole city! I find that to be totally unacceptable and shameful! The only programs offered to kids are swim times, skating or a drop in program @ cosmo 2 times a week.

ƒ

Dance classes

ƒ

Have to try the spin class yet.

ƒ

Hip hop

ƒ

Hot yoga

ƒ

I have suggested before to have a yoga class on Wednesday around 9:15 or 9:30 instead of another step/sculpt class or have the option of either class. The room upstairs at that time is empty. I would like to see bosu balls used in the muscle sculpt classes and have a bosu ball class offered in the week mornings as well.

ƒ

I know the spin classes are new and you didn't know how it would be attended. I would like more options for days/times.

ƒ

I like the combined classes - weight training and cardio. There are ways to make interval training fun and exciting by using other venues. Is it possible to offer classes in the weight room for example?

ƒ

I love the new spin interval class on Thursday. Boxercise being cancelled on Thursday night was not good.

ƒ

I miss Karen’s Thursday night yoga-kickboxing-tai chi class; it was totally safe, fun and added some cardio. I like any fitness class that doesn't involve a lot of equipment (which includes having to wear sneakers).

ƒ

I really enjoyed the boxercise interval that used to be on Thursday evenings

ƒ

I really like the step 2 and cardio and sculpt classes would like to see more offered right after work at 5:30pm for people that have to work during the day.

ƒ

I think the leisure centers have the best variety of classes out of all the gyms in the city.

ƒ

I think you have done a fabulous job of offering a wide variety of times and classes. This last fall session has been superb.

ƒ

I would appreciate an on the ball class at the field house

ƒ

I would like to see a pilates class offered.

ƒ

I would like to see those dance type classes on 5:30 time slots

ƒ

I would like to see those dance type classes on 5:30 time slots

ƒ

If the Sunday core body class became part of the step class (like stack it) more people may stay an extra 1/2 to 45 mins. Add Karen’s 3d fusion class.

ƒ

I'm happy with the variety

ƒ

Indoor running club

ƒ

Karen had an excellent class she taught on Thursday evenings she called 3d fusion. It was a great class and was quite popular. It combined elements of yoga, kick boxing, pilates and tai chi. I can not understand if you are looking for new & innovative ideas why this class did not become an offering which is too bad. It was a fun class and a great workout besides being well attended.

ƒ

Karen's 3d fusion class. Glenn's cardio tease.

ƒ

Last year there was a "fusion" class which i really enjoyed that does not seem to be available anymore.

ƒ

Maybe an aerobic class that is dance-style, like hip-hop or latin groove etc.

ƒ

Mom/dad & baby/toddler drop in classes

ƒ

More boxercise classes at Lakewood.

ƒ

More cardio interval classes. They are my favorite!!!

ƒ

More options of times classes are offered.

Babysitting could be longer at field house ie 9-1pm like

Lakewood. ƒ

More spin classes at different times

ƒ

More spin classes.

ƒ

More variety for noon classes. Let some people get back to work, continue with mat exercises until 1:15

ƒ

More yoga

ƒ

More yoga, hip hop and running classes

ƒ

No - you offer a good variety - you need to entice and retain quality instructors, though.

ƒ

No. I have been very impressed with the quality of classes and i'm really enjoying some of the new classes, ie. Spin class

ƒ

Offer nia classes because it appeals to a wide range of fitness and age ranges.

A 30 minute circuit with

machines that is supervised by a fitness instructor. A stretch and tone class. ƒ

Perhaps a mom/ (or dad) kid class for 8+

ƒ

Pilates

ƒ

Pilates, thai chi,

ƒ

Recommend trying a fusion class like the one Karen h. Offered last year - yoga, tai chi, kick boxing - it was a hoot!

ƒ

Should be allowed to have a friend do a drop in class for free from time to time to get an idea if it is comparable to other facilities. Should allow instructors to have some free passes to give away

ƒ

So far I’m just getting into the ones that are offered and they look good

ƒ

Spin at Lakewood

ƒ

Spin class at noon?

ƒ

Spin class during the noon hour

ƒ

Spin should not be on the track - it should be in a smaller room with dim lights & loud music with motivated instructor. Track is too open and can't have loud music.

ƒ

Step and muscle

ƒ

Try a class at 4:00 pm on Saturdays.
