Day 1st Thessaloniki Arrival at Thessaloniki airport (Macedonia Airport) with International flights. Our guide will meet and greet you upon exiting the customs area, and will lead you to your coach. We will set off for a tour on the outskirts of Thessaloniki Area. Our first stop will be Ancient Pella. Ancient Pella is a Greek city located in the current Pella regional unit of Central Macedonia in Greece, and was the Capital of the Ancient Kingdom of Macedonia. On the site of the Ancient City of Pella is the Archeological Museum of Pella. A common folk etymology is traditionally given for the name Pella, ascribing it to a form akin to the Doric Apella, originally meaning a ceremonial location where decisions were made. Another suggestion is that Pella originally meant “defensible citadel on a cliff”, a version which is reinforced by the numerous ancient cities throughout Greece with similar names. The word Polis most probably derives from the ancient meaning. After concluding the tour to Ancient Pella, we will continue with a visit to the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki that presents the history of Sephardic Jews and Jewish life in Thessaloniki.

It is also known as “Museum of Jewish Presence in Thessaloniki”, or “Jewish History Museum”. The museum is being run by the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki. It was built in 1904 by the Italian architect Vitaliano Pozeli. The restoration of the building lasted from 1998 to 2003 and was funded by the Organization for the Cultural Capital of Europe Thessaloniki 1997”.

....Ταξιδεύεις με την ψυχή, το μυαλό & το σώμα The exhibition of the Museum was based on the collection of documents, ritual objects and photographic material reminiscent of the era, as well as a library that used to be housed in another location. This library was known as “The Center of the Course of Jewish history in Thessaloniki” or “Center for the Jewish Studies of Thessaloniki” or “Jewish History Center of Thessaloniki”. After visiting the Jewish Museum we will take you on a small City Tour of Thessaloniki, where you will admire the White Tower.

The present tower replaced an old Byzantine fortification which was mentioned around the 12th Century and reconstructed by the Ottomans to fortify the City’s harbour. It later became a notorious prison and scene of mass executions during the period of Ottoman rule. We will also bring you to admire the Kamara (Arch) and the rest landmarks of the City.

Our tour will end in the afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel to check in and overnight.

Day 2nd Vergina – Meteora – Kalambaka (Meteora) After our early breakfast at the hotel we will drive to Vergina. Vergina is a small town in northern Greece, located in the regional unit of Imathia, Central Macedonia. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Veria. The town became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The finds established the site as the ancient Aiga. Afterwards we will drive to the famous mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece, located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, about 80km southwest from Thessaloniki.

Mount Olympus is notable for its very rich flora with several species. It is a National Park of Greece and a World Biosphere Reserve. We will continue to Kalambaka and the famous Meteora. The monasteries are located in Kalambaka that is the northwestern terminal of the old Thessaly Railways, now part of the Public Railways. The City was voted as one of the most beautiful places in Greece. We will visit 2 of the monasteries in Meteora, a renowned landmark ( included in the Unesco World Heritage Monuments), that will make you stand in awe of this natural wonder landscape.

Many scripts, many stories, mysteries and Religious legends are hiding inside the monasteries of Meteora . We will overnight in Kalambaka. Day 3rd Kalambaka – Thermopylae – Kamena Vourla - Delphi After an early breakfast, we will depart from Kalambaka and drive further south, towards Thermopylae. Thermopylae is primarily known for the battle that took place there in 480 BC, in

which an outnumbered Greek force of probably seven thousand (including the famous 300 Spartans) held off a huge Persian force (estimated in the range 70,000– 300,000) under Xerxes. Probably one thousand Greeks remained in the pass when most of the army retreated. For three days they held out between two narrow cliff faces to prevent the use of Xerxes' vast cavalry and infantry force, before being outflanked on the third day via a hidden goat path named the Anopaea Pass. According to the Greek legend, a traitor named Ephialtes of Trachis showed the path to the invaders. The following epitaph by Simonides was written on the monument: “Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here obedient to their laws we lie."

We will then proceed to Kamena Vourla, a bath City well known for its Thermal Springs. The famous springs became important around 1926 when the chemist Michail Pertesis discovered the exceptionally high radon concentration in the water, which was thought of as of great value for people’s health. Nearly ten years later, the first hotels started to develop in the area and after World War 2, Kamena Vourla was transformed into a considerable tourist attraction. You will have the opportunity to have a bath in the hot springs. We will then direct towards Delphi, where we will spend the night.

\ Day 4th Delphi –Nafpaktos – Kalavrita - Olympia Delphi is both an archaeological site and a modern town in Greece on the southwestern spur of Mount Parnassus, in the valley of Phocis. The site of Delphi was believed to be determined by Zeus when he sought to find the centre of Grandmother Earth (or Gaia). He sent two eagles flying from the eastern and western extremities, and the path of the eagles crossed over Delphi where the Omphalos, or navel of Gaia was found. Delphi was the site of the Delphic Oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and became a major site for the worship of the god Apollo after he slew Python, a dragon who lived there and protected the navel of the Earth. Python (derived from the verb pythein, "to rot") is claimed by some to be the original name of the site in recognition of Python which Apollo defeated. The Homeric Hymn to Delphic Apollo recalled that the ancient name of this site had been Krisa. We will visit the Apollo Temple and the Museum with masterpieces such as the Charioteer.

....Ταξιδεύεις με την ψυχή, το μυαλό & το σώμα After the visit has been concluded, we will leave Delphi and drive further south. We will pass through the picturesque town of Nafpaktos (short stop) and we will cross the Antirrion bridge, one of the longest multi span cable stayed bridges in the world, which constitutes the gateway from the Central Greece region to the Peloponnese peninsula.

Our next visit will be in Kalavrita. During the late Middle Ages, the town was the centre

of the Barony of Kalavryta within the Frankish Principality of Achaea, until it was reconquered by the Byzantines in the 1270s. After that it remained under Byzantine control until the fall of the Despotate of the Morea to the Ottoman Turks in 1460. With the exception of a 30-year interlude of Venetian control, the town remained under Turkish rule until the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, in whose early stages Kalavryta figures prominently: it was here that on 21 March 1821 the flag of the revolution was raised at the monastery of Agia Lavra by bishop Germanos III of Old Patras). We will continue our tour towards Olympia. Check in at your hotel and overnight in Olympia.

The Theater – which is still hosting dramatic performances nowadays - delighted Pausanias for its symmetry and beauty. It was designed by Plykleitos the Younger in the 4th century BC. The original 34 rows were extended in Roman times by another 21 rows. As is usual for Greek Theaters (and as opposed to Roman ones), the view on a lush landscape behind the scene is an integral part of the Theater itself and is not to be obscured. It seats up to 15.000 people. The Theater is marvelled for its exceptional acoustics, which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken word from the proscenium of scene to all 15.000 spectators, regardless of their seating. After having the chance to admire the Ancient Theater, we will drive on to the city of Nauplion, a lovely Greek town with intervals of prosperity in ancient, medieval, and modern times. Nafplion was the first capital of modern Greece. The quaint harbor town, with its 20,000 inhabitants, is built on the north side of a rocky peninsula jutting into the gulf of Argos, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful towns all over Greece. We will spend the night either in Nauplion, or in the adjacent fishing village of Tolo.

Day 6th Nauplion – Mycenae - Corinth Canal – Athens – Ancient Athens After breakfast we will travel for our next visit that will take you to the Acropolis of Mycenae with its Cyclopean walls and the Lions’ Gate, the Treasury of Atreus and the Museum.
