Reinforced Plastics Building Material Of The Future Society has love hate relationship with plastic but whether you love it or hate it plastic, and more so the newer breed of reinforced plastics are only going to become a more common commodity due to their light weight and high strength. Reinforced plastics introduce quite a number of advantages over the more traditional materials such as metal, and are more commonly being used in the construction of boat hulls and aircraft fuselages.

Fiberglass reinforced plastic or FRP is a plastic polymer that has been given added strength with the introduction of glass fibers. The introduced fiberglass gives the new product increased gains in strength and durability that is comparable to carbon fiber, but at a much cheaper price point. FRP is also an attractive manufacturing material because of the ease with which it can be molded into new shapes. All of these advantages mean that FRP is now a popular material in the manufacture of boats, pipes, aircraft fuselages and ducting. FRP also rises to the challenge of transporting corrosive chemicals as it is extremely resistant to corrosion. In addition to this, it also has anti slip properties making it perfect for the manufacture of gratings. Traditional steel gratings are notoriously slippery when damp or wet and have been the cause of millions of lost man hours due to injury from slips and falls. FRP is helping to make thousands of industrial workplaces a much safer place to be for hundreds of workers worldwide. FRP is easier to work with than most metals, lighter than steel, and comes with comparable strength. Unlike steel, FRP requires no constant maintenance and is also transparent to radio signals, making it the perfect material in the fabrication of an office space. No wonder then that FRP is here to stay. Fiberglass reinforced plastic is the material of the future.
