Quicken The Heart
This Manhattan four-piece are being hyped as the new Strokes. Gossip Girl fans might recognise five of their catchy tunes as they have already featured on the series. Second single Rich Girls sounds like early Razorlight, but Fernando Pando is more Red Hot Chili Peppers. We predict big things.
The high-octane rockers from the North East release their third album, and boy does it live up to its name. Wraithlike kicks off with a thrusting start and, while Calm takes it down a notch (slightly), The Kids Are Sick Again is likely to incite mosh-pit behaviour among the ordinary public.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Barbados’ answer to Alesha Dixon, Shontelle (a friend of Rihanna) is musically influenced by her roots. Hit single T-Shirt proves she’s capable of producing radio-friendly R&B, while tracks like Focus Pon Me reflect her reggae heritage.
So agreeable they named themselves thrice, Karen O and the band are back with their third album, which was made using a keyboard bought on eBay. Heads Will Roll is a fusion of rock and disco while Zero is an electro-techno dance anthem. All in all, a futuristic version of the ’80s.
