LAST TIME OUT In their most recent outing, the Colonials concluded their four-game road trip with a pair of contests against the United States Air Force Academy. After playing the first contest of the season in Pittsburgh on October 27th, a 4-1 loss, Robert Morrs concluded the season series with the Falcons in Colorado. The Colonials would be swept for the first time this season as the Falcons handed RMU its first losing streak on the year. After a 2-0 shutout on Friday night, the Colonials would net only one goal in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday to fall to tenth in the AHA standings. ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS Robert Morris’ overall record of 12-9-2 shadows the team’s conference record as the Colonials are currently sitting in tenth place in the AHA standings with 15 points and a record of 7-8-1. Robert Morris is averaging 2.8 goals per game while the team has allowed an average of 2.5 goals per game to their opponent. Senior Eric Levine is first all-time on the school’s career save percentage (.928) and goals-against average (2.64) lists. His four career shutouts also rank number one in program history. His career-best 11 victories this season are third all-time for a single season at the school, while his 35.40 saves per game are the most in a season at Robert Morris. Senior Adam Brace leads the team this season with 13 assists and 22 points. Sophomore Cody Wydo leads the team with 10 goals. The Colonials are 2-3-1 at home this season with wins against Bentley and Connecticut as well as a tie with Ohio State. Robert Morris is 8-6-1 on the road so far this season with wins against No. 18 Quinnipiac, RIT, Canisius, Holy Cross, Ohio State, Penn State, Army, and American International. The only tie on the road for the Colonials came against Holy Cross. Two of the program’s biggest wins this season came in the inaugural Three Rivers Classic held at the CONSOL Energy Center as the Colonials shut out Penn State and No. 5 Miami to capture the first Confluence Cup. Senior Brendan Jamison was named one of the nominees for the Senior CLASS Award this season after becoming the first Pittsburgh-born captain in Robert Morris history. Three seniors - Adam Brace, Zach Hervato, and Eric Levine - were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player. The Robert Morris hockey team has partnered with the Bakersfield Condors and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL to raise awareness of men’s cancer and the battle that former captain Chris Kushneriuk is currently in with the disease. Together, the teams that Kushneriuk has played for have raised over $20,000 for the cause. UP NEXT FOR THE COLONIALS After the two-game series with Sacred Heart, the Colonials will remain at home for a single game contest with in-state rival Mercyhurst on Tuesday, February 5th with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff. The game against the Lakers is the third match of a five-game homestand that spans nine days. The homestand will conclude that weekend when Robert Morris hosts RIT next Friday and Saturday. HOSTING THE FROZEN FOUR The NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee has chosen the city of Pittsburgh as the site of the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four with Robert Morris University serving as the host institution in conjunction with VisitPittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins. CONSOL Energy Center will host the event on April 11-13, 2013 with the event marking first NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship event held in the state of Pennsylvania. It will be the first major team sport in NCAA history to conduct its national championship in the city of Pittsburgh. BOBBY MO BROS The Robert Morris hockey team joined forces with the RMU men’s lacrosse team to raise money and awareness for men’s cancer during the month of November. During the month, members of both squads grew and sported moustaches as a part of “Movember” and raised nearly $15,000. Spearheading the movement was the news that former captain Chris Kushneriuk had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. The Robert Morris hockey team will continue their fundraising efforts throughout the season in support of Kushneriuk and his current battle.

KRUSHING CANCER Former Robert Morris Colonial captain Chris Kushneriuk is often remembered as a player that would put his teammates before himself. After the conclusion of the 2011-2012 season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL, Kushneriuk got the news that he had cancer. The native of Ottawa, Ontario is currently receiving treatment in Indianapolis, Indiana. Along with the men’s hockey team at Robert Morris, the Wheeling Nailers and Bakersfield Condors have also contributed fundraising efforts to Kushneriuk’s cause. At the remaining home games, the team will be selling wristbands and shirts to help RMU Krush Cancer. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Brendan Jamison serves as captain with Tyler Hinds working as the assistant captain. Jamison becomes the first Pittsburgh-born captain in the nine-year history of the Program. Zach Hervato and Colin South were recently named assistant captains before the Colonials took on RIT. Hervato will serve as the second assistant during all road contests while South will wear the “A” during all games at home. CHANGING NUMBERS Two sophomores have switched their number for the 2012-13 season. Forward Jeff Jones will now wear 11 and defenseman Tyson Wilson will switch to 10.

PLAYING THE BEST Robert Morris has beaten a ranked opponent twelve times during the duration of the hockey program. The shutout of #18-ranked Quinnipiac this season marked the first shutout of a ranked opponent in program history. The Colonials won their second game against a ranked opponent this season when they shut out #5-ranked Miami in the championship game of the Three Rivers Classic. The last time RMU won two games against ranked opponents in the same season was during the 2009-2010 season. In the nine years of the program, Robert Morris has won multiple games against ranked opponents in four of those nine seasons. Against teams ranked in the top five, Robert Morris is 5-5-0 including a 3-10 record in 2009-2010 when the Colonials swept #1 Miami in a home-and-home series and knocked off CHA-rival Bemidji State when the Beavers were ranked #5 in the nation. All time, Robert Morris is 12-22-1 against ranked opponents.

MEDIA INFORMATION ON THE AIR Every Robert Morris hockey home game for the remainder of the season will be broadcast on www.rmucolonials.com and streamed live on www.americaonesports.com.

ROAD WOES Robert Morris is just below .500 on the road since the team joined the Atlantic Hockey Association with a record of 21-24-6 as the squad plays in its third season as a member of the AHA. The Colonials have never had a winning record on the road, but this season RMU is currently 8-6-1 with three road contests remaining before the start of the Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs in March. The most prolific of the seven road victories this season came in the opening weekend of play as the Colonials shut out a nationally ranked Quinnipiac team. The Colonials also picked up their first ever win at RIT and the first win on the road against Canisius since the 2006-2007 season. Robert Morris then continued by downing a pair of future Big Ten members in Ohio State and Penn State. RMU skated in to Columbus, Ohio and took down the Ohio State Buckeyes by a score of 3-2 on Dec. 7. and then went to Penn State and defeated the Nittany Lions by a score of 3-2 as well. However, in 2013 the Colonials are 2-4-0 having split series with Army and American International before being losing both games at Air Force. NEW YEAR, NEW PROBLEMS Since Robert Morris joined the Atlantic Hockey Association, the Colonials are 17-22-6 in the months of January, February, and March. This season, RMU is 3-5-0 since the new year. Out of the three months, the Colonials have played their best hockey in February when the team has gone 6-6-3 in the first two years of their AHA membership. Before the new year arrives, the Colonials are 31-17-6 in the first three months of the season. BOUNCING BACK Despite losing nine games this season, Robert Morris has only suffered consecutive losses one time over the course of their schedule so far. The Colonials are 7-1-0 after suffering a defeat with the only losing streak coming after the team was swept by Air Force last weekend. RMU has outscored its opponents 31-17 in the game following a loss. IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL Robert Morris will play its sixth consecutive week of hockey that began with the inaugural Three Rivers Classic at the end of December. The two games against Sacred Heart are a part of ten straight weeks that the Colonials will play at least two games. The stretch of games will take the team to the conclusion of the regular season and in to the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.

SCORING LINE Put back together for the first time since December 15, the top line of Wydo-Jacklin-Brace has recorded 25 points (8 goals, 17 assists) in the eleven games the trio has skated together. In those eleven games, the Colonials have a record of 5-5-1. The line has come up big with the game on the line as it has combined for two game-winning goals. SHOT SELECTION Robert Morris is averaging 31.7 shots on goal per game. When the Colonials are held to under 30 shots per game the team has a record of 7-4-0. When getting the puck on net more than 30 times, the Colonials are 5-5-2. SEEING A LOT OF RUBBER Common thought would suggest that the more shots an opponent gets on a goaltender, the better chance of success they have. This season, Robert Morris has debunked that theory. When a Colonial goaltender has faced 40 or more shots, RMU has a record of 6-1-1. When facing less than 40 shots, Robert Morris is 6-8-1. Three of the four shutouts posted by RMU netminders this season have come while making at least 40 saves. QUICK STARTS The Colonials have registered a goal within the first five minutes of a period on 19 different occasions in 13 of the team’s 23 games. Line mates Zach Hervato and Jeff Jones earned Co-Players of the Week on Oct. 29 after their performances led Robert Morris to its first victory at RIT in program history. Hervato would contribute one goal and three assists while Jones would add a goal and two assists in the victory over the Tigers. LEVINE SURPASSES 1,500 SAVES Senior goaltender Eric Levine became the third goaltender in school history to reach the 1,500-saves as he reached the milestone during the game against Army on January 4, 2013. Averaging 30.54 saves per game over his career, could have a shot to reach 2,000 saves by the end of the season. The Colonials have 11 regular-season games remaining and at his current pace Levine would finish with 2,076 saves. Before Levine reached 1,500 saves, the most recent goaltender to reach the mark was Brooks Ostergard as he finished his career with 2,776 saves, the second most in program history. Levine currently ranks third on the career saves list. Christian Boucher holds the career saves record with 3,244 saves over his four-year career that started with Robert Morris’ first year of hockey in 2004.

ROCK SOLID Senior Eric Levine inhereted the starting position from 2012 graduate Brooks Ostergard and stepped into his new role quickly. Coming into the season, Levine had seen action in 37 games while playing in no more than thirteen games in a single season. In his second start of the season, Levine would record the program’s first shutout of a ranked opponent with a 48-save performance against #18 ranked Quinnipiac on Oct. 14. The 48-save effort ranked as the fourth most saves by a Colonial goaltender. Levine holds four of the top five single-save performances including a career and program high 58 saves. Levine posted back-to-back shutout in the inaugural Three Rivers Classic as he blanked Penn State while seeing 48 shots and #5 ranked Miami University the following evening by stopping all 51 shots he faced.
