Greetings Apple Chase Sponsor, Thank You for taking interest in support of the 2012 Apple Chase 5K/10K. The Apple Chase vanished from the racing scene back in 2005 and came back with a vengeance in 2011. With the spark, now a flame, the event has new found support from the community, both local and running, and from prominent sponsors such as you. The event will be run to support both the Critical Care Nurses through the Kathleen Shala Memorial Fund Chilton Hospital Foundation and the Family & Friend for Freedom Fund. The the Passaic County Runners’ Club (PCRC) will be the managing/supportive nonprofit. The Family & Friend for Freedom Fund, as you may or may not know moved their 5K event from Mountain Lakes where they ran a 5K fundraiser under the guise of the Wounded Hero’s Run. The PCRC supports numerous events in the surrounding communities inclusive of their own Winter Series which draws runners from miles around. With your support… we believe we can continue to fortify this event as a “stap(p)le” within the Morris/Passaic/Bergen/Essex/Sussex County running communities. We also believe we will be able to assist all the involved benefactors in providing support to those in need. Enclosed you will find a list of the current sponsorship levels for this year’s event. We have created eight (8) levels (on the pages that follow) to accommodate a sponsor's ability to support this event so please review each one carefully prior to making your commitment. Any monetary or in-kind donation you are able to make is much appreciated. While you review each option please note/consider the following:
Donations at each level can be made monetarily, in-kind or through a combination of both means. Donations in-kind are based on the aggregate retail value of the donation. In-kind donations may be used to help facilitate a monetary return through the use of EBAY's Mission Fish or Private Auctions. In-kind donations can be provided in support of either beneficiary. Just write the benefactor’s name on your check. In-kind contributions could be practical (ice scraper/gloves/hat/sneaker), valuable (gift card/vouchers/coupons) or edible (individually wrapped or freshly prepared break/snacks/drinks/bars items). “( )” are examples. Monetary donations are preferred as they need not be converted and can be applied directly to the beneficiaries/programs being supported.
This is the Apple Chase’s 18th Running, and the event’s resurgence continues to be fostered by the Passaic County Runners’ Club, now taking the lead role. Many of the clubs members will be involved in supporting the Apple Chase through the event date by carrying its message to numerous events while helping ensure its success on race day, March 25th. If you plan on being present at the event please let us know and we will ensure you have the appropriate space/power available. Please advise a member of the race committee (firstname.lastname@example.org) prior to March 9th.
There are also opportunities to “volunteer” and assist at the event pre/post race so please let us know if there is any particular activity within the event that you feel compassionate in supporting. Now a word on our beneficiaries: The Chilton Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)3 fund-raising organization for Chilton Memorial Hospital. The funds donated to the Kathleen Shala Memorial fund will specifically be used to support critical care nurses. The Foundation's philanthropic efforts provide vital funding for programs, construction, renovation and modernization of facilities, and the purchase of state-of-the-art technology. The volunteer Board of Trustees actively participate in and direct activities of the Foundation as well as oversee endowed gifts, the charitable gift annuity fund, and the transfer of funds to the hospital. As U.S. hospital profit margins continue to be challenged, philanthropic support is a direct reflection of the importance our community places on healthcare that is close to home. The Family & Friends For Freedom Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organized to provide financial aid to injured marines and their families, as well as post traumatic stress disorder cases from war, and all branches of the U.S Military as the need arises. Our severely wounded Marines continue to fight battles here at home with their struggle to adjust to their injuries. Our mission is to provide financial support to injured Marines while they continue their long road to recovery. The Passaic County Runners’ Club (PCRC) is a non-profit 501(c)3 public benefit corporation which leverages the running fabric to develop a social outlet in which to impact not just the individual but his/her community by knitting together those special events in each of our lives that bring us together. We welcome your support and look forward to seeing you at the 18th Running of the Apple Chase on Sunday, March 25th. Warmest Regards

Participation by racers, sponsors, and volunteers in our 10K Race and 5K Race/Walk, is projected to be record breaking. This event to benefit Chilton Memorial Hospital, will be reaching many members of our community. The run is held in memory of our mother, Kathleen Shala, who was a well-loved and respected nurse at Chilton for many years. Our family, with the help of our Chilton family, has set up a nursing education program, which this event will fund. The Kathleen Shala Memorial Fund through the Chilton Hospital Foundation, with your support will provide certification programs for the Chilton Hospital nursing staff who care for our community. These certification programs will be for a multitude of specialties: oncology, critical care, elder care, emergency, medical/surgical to name a few. This education program will provide nurses who are striving for excellence to be well prepared in caring for our community. Your direct involvement/support will ensure that they will receive education that meets the highest national benchmarks for patient care in their specialty. Please consider becoming a sponsor. Your participation will be greatly appreciated. The enclosed form provides information regarding levels of sponsorship and the publicity your company will receive. In distributing more than 5,000 applications, the Apple Chase will highlight the contributions of our top level sponsors. Your business can expect to receive substantial awareness for its support and contributions in/around this event. All sponsors will be honored for awareness for their commitments through a number of local mediums pre/post race. Please see the package for details. Involvement in the Apple Chase 5K/10K is a chance to be involved in the revival of a well known, appreciated, and long standing community event. We look forward to your involvement and continued support for this and the years to come.

April 14, 2010 Mr. Ross Mistretta Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) 96 Carol Place Wayne, NJ 07470 Dear Ross, Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) #2650 (EIN: 27-1539415) is a 501(c)3 organization through the Road Runners Club of America group exemption status with the IRS. Below are two important excerpts from the http://ftp.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p4573.pdf that clearly outlines the procedure for group exemption letters and verifying subordinate organizations under the group exemption ruling: 1. What is a group exemption letter? The IRS sometimes recognizes a group of organizations as tax exempt if they are affiliated with a central organization. This avoids the need for each of the organizations to apply for the exemption individually. A group exemption letter has the same effect as an individual exemption letter except that it applies to more than one organization. Please see the accompanying copy of the RRCA’s group exemption letter from the IRS. 2. How do I verify that an organization is included as a subordinate in a group exemption ruling? The central organization that holds a group exemption (rather than the IRS) determines which organizations are included as subordinates under its group exemption ruling. Therefore, you can verify that an organization is a subordinate under a group exemption ruling by consulting the official subordinate listing approved by the central organization or by contacting the central organization directly. You may use either method to verify that an organization is a subordinate under a group exemption ruling. This letter is to serve as official verification as outlined by the IRS that Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) is a nonprofit organization under the RRCA’s group exemption (Group Exemption #2702) with the IRS. If you need further information to verify the status, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely,
Eve Mills Director of Membership and Program Services
