hat’s in a name? In the case of multi-generational (often referred to as “multi-gen”) living, it’s everything, meaning a household that includes at least two (and sometimes three) adult generations.
While a large percentage of multi-gen households includes middle-aged parents and their 20- or 30-something adult children, an equally significant percentage of these households consists of an age-related, flip-flopped demographic: middle-aged singles and/or couples (with their older-end Baby Boomer parents), as well as younger Baby Boomers with their parents who are in their seventh or eighth (and even beyond) decade of life.

According to a 2014 study by the Pew Research Center, 57 million Americans lived in multi-generational family households in 2012, double the number who lived in such households in 1980.
