Around Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction rolls in Jan. 12-20

It’s the granddaddy of all car events. The Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction returns Jan. 12-20 to WestWorld bringing hundreds of the world’s finest collector automobiles and thousands of spectators to Scottsdale. Modern-day activist Carmen Perez headlines Scottsdale’s 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Dinner Celebration. The event takes place at Embassy Suites, 5001 N. Scottsdale Road. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the program starts at 6 p.m. Perez is an activist who has worked on civil rights issues —including mass incarceration, women’ss rights and gender equity, violence prevention, racial healing and community policing. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased at ccdarizona.org

Sunday A’Fair mini-festivals return Jan. 13

Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon runs through Scottsdale Jan. 20 The full-marathon course enters Scottsdale along
