lthough bees are our allies when it comes to food production, we don’t want them close to our home. If you discover a beehive or swarm, there are two options for removal: relocation or extermination. Both methods remove the hive from your property, but they have very different consequences that impact the local ecosystem. Honeybees pollinate one third of the food we eat. Live bee removal and relocation gives the bees a second chance to add value to the environment by pollinating. Honeybees travel in thousands during the swarming season and

many times land on tree branches to rest and scout out a better location to set up their colony. These swarms tend to move on within 24 to 48 hours. DC Ranch Association has recently worked with AZ Queen Bee to safely relocate four hives out of the community. The bees are moved to a field in Mesa and then transferred to one of ten locations in the valley. Removals take approximately one hour.

• Preserve generations of bees Live bee removal preserves the life of a hive so they can pollinate, produce honey and create new generations of bees to carry on their important work.

• Harmless and safe A specially designed vacuum is used to remove the bees carefully and eliminate harm or death.

• Future deterrent Removing a hive eliminates the chances of a new hive developing since bees are attracted to the smell of wax left over from a destroyed hive. • Chemical-free process No dangerous chemicals or harsh substances are used during the removal process. Insecticides can transfer and kill bees within two miles of the local foraging area. If you ever see a lady in a pink bee suit, give her a wave! For more information visit azqueenbee.com.

Bees try to keep their home around 95 degrees. When temperatures rise, worker bees stand at the entrance of the hive and flutter their wings to create a draft. Others collect water to add to the hive, which creates an evaporative cooling system.
