when you set up automatic payment. You may not realize how much you’re shelling out for car-based infotainment until you look over your credit card statement. How do you avoid getting caught unaware? Here are some preventative measures.

There’s a lot to love about these “infotainment” systems. Depending on the brand, you can organize your music, program the GPS, and dictate text messages. Console screens are as wide as small tablets and easy to read, even when you’re behind the wheel. But there’s a cost: Many of these services require a subscription, such as invehicle Wi-Fi hotspots, Sirius XM satellite radio and live traffic data. You may start with a free trial, grow accustomed to these conveniences and then find yourself paying fees later on.

Click here to find your perfect car. ) The last thing you want to think about is whether the console uses Apple Maps or Google Maps. But this is a critical time, because the dealer may want you to subscribe to as many services as possible. Don’t let salespeople confuse you. There’s no reason to sign up for anything on the first day. All enrollments are voluntary, and these apps will be available whenever you want them. Infotainment systems are still new, and every car company has its own technology and services. Each system has distinct benefits and drawbacks: Volvo’s Sensus Connect has a touch screen you can use while wearing gloves. Ford’s Sync 3 uses a Blackberry-based system, and it’s a vast improvement on earlier versions. See Kim Komando Pg 44 February 2017

RISK FACTORS - GUEST CONTRIBUTOR MARTIN R. PERRONE, CTR Then again, some simply choose to ignore this administrative law figuring it will never happen to them... and if it does they’ll deal with it then. Not a wise move! What does this recently finalized OSHA regulation mean to all “General Industry” building owners? It means; if you employ people to work in your building, it better be safe from all recognized hazards. Or if you hire an outside electrical contractor it’s the building owner’s responsibility to make sure the worker is fully trained in NFPA 70E codes. According to the National Fire Protection Association, NFPA 70E, “Standards for Electrical Safety in the Workplace” these are just some of the codes: 110.1, 110.2, 200.1 and 205.3 that spell it out pretty clearly. The building owner or the owners designated representative is responsible for training, testing and documenting the training of qualified electrical workers. What’s more, they must develop a mitigation strategy to reduce the risks of an Arc Flash explosion, make sure every measure has been taken to ensure “safety related work practices” are in place, see to it electrical equipment is properly maintained to manufacturer’s specifications and ensure there is no evidence of impending failure. www.underwritersinsider.com

So what is the best way to ensure every commercial building owners’ facility is in full compliance with the NFPA 70E & OHSA’s new “CFR” code of federal regulation 29 CFR 1910.269, which became law on July 10, 2014? First, purchase a copy of NFPA 70E and read it. Then locate a competent NFPA 70E trainer in your area and schedule a comprehensive Arc Flash Safety Training seminar.

Therefore, if you are a licensed commercial insurance agent or a company underwriter and you wish to be viewed in your market place as a knowledgeable professional… make sure you know the truth, get the facts and advise your clients wisely. Arc Flash safety is a real problem in America. Far too many building owners and managers are hiring people or using outside socalled electricians who are performing electrical tasks without the proper training and documentation.

Today’s lawsuit follows an investigation by the Department’s Bureau of Fraud Deterrence (the Bureau), Allstate and OIFP. On behalf of New Jersey consumers, the Department is seeking a substantial, yet undetermined IFPA-mandated fine amount and Allstate is seeking reimbursement for personal injury protection benefits that Allstate paid on behalf of its customers. In 2015, the Bureau fined fraudsters more than $4.2 million in fines, surcharges and restitutions for various IFPA violations. “This lawsuit is the latest in a series of actions taken by the Department, Allstate and other insurers to protect New Jersey customers who insure 5.5 million private passenger autos and are charged nearly $7 billion in written premiums,” said Commissioner Badolato. “These and similar alleged fraudulent activities increase the cost of insurance to consumers.” It is important to note that a lawsuit simply sets forth allegations of wrongdoing. Ultimately, the evidence will be presented in court where a determination will be made in the matter. February 2017

FORMER GEORGIA INSURANCE AGENT ARRESTED FOR FRAUD

A

tlanta – Former insurance agent Christopher Lowell Jackson, 39, of Athens, was arrested earlier this month on warrants for five counts of insurance fraud and three counts of forgery. Georgia Department of Insurance Fraud investigators determined that Jackson filed bogus watercraft insurance claims and submitted forged documents for personal financial gain. “Insurance fraud ultimately hurts the Georgia consumer, who ends up paying higher premiums to cover losses,” Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said. “My office will continue to pursue all types of insurance fraud aggressively.” An investigation by Hudgens’ office revealed that on May 13, 2016, Jackson took out watercraft insurance policies on a 2000 Cobalt 210 boat with both GEICO and Allstate. Between May 15 and Aug. 7, the suspect filed a total of five boat towing claims on the same vessel with the companies touting engine failure off the coast Georgia. He was paid approximately $7,100 for three of the filed claims and withdrew attempts to collect on an additional two.

12

The Underwriter’s Insider

Following a three-month investigation, fraud investigators concluded that all of the submitted towing invoices by Jackson were fraudulent. Also, with help from the United States Coast Guard and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, investigators determined that Jackson was never in possession of the vessel and that the boat and actual owner were in Kentucky.

On Dec. 19, Jackson surrendered his license to sell insurance in the state of Georgia. He turned himself in at the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 4 and was released on a $8,000 bond. The case will be prosecuted by the Clarke County District Attorney’s Office. Insurance fraud is a felony with a penalty of two to 10 years.

‘PAY-FOR-POUNDS’ CONTESTS PROMPTING WORKPLACE WEIGHT LOSS By Merilee Kern, MBA

Four Key Marketing Strategies Helping Business Groups of all Sizes ‘Diet for Dollars’ to Boost Bottom Lines as Innovative Workplace Wellness Approach

W

hile the modernday workplace is rife with technology and other advancements that have made it more efficient, productive and profitable from a business standpoint, it seems much of that progress is having an adverse effect on the collective waistline— and well-being in general—of America’s workforce. According to Dr. Vince Kerr, director of Health Care

He further explained that companies experience a loss in excess of $12 billion per year due to lowered productivity, higher healthcare

As troubling, “diet scams are big business with sellers vying for their share of the more than $60 billion that Americans spend each year on weight loss products and programs,” according to one report. PAY FOR POUNDS 1. Harness Competitive Cultures

HealthyWage designs challenges that tap into a characteristic rampant in the American landscape: competitiveness Friendly competition enhances the success of wellness programs, motivating participants to improve upon their most stubborn unhealthy behaviors.

among participants on a team, among members of an office location or department, among employees within a company, and also between employers vis a vis “company v. company.” For example, in 2016 HealthyWage executed its “Third Annual Energy Industry Challenge,” where energy giants like Conoco Phillips, Schlumberger and many others locked horns in a weight loss contest that helped thousands of energy industry employees shed hundreds of thousands of pounds.

nine large school districts for the same purpose—to increase the health and well-being of staffers and benefit the business bottom lines in kind. 2. Gamify to Increase Program Participation

HealthyWage challenges go beyond the competitive appeal and extensively “gamify” the experience to make the challenges irresistibly fun. Research supports the company’s belief that ”gamification”—the inclusion of elements designed to make an event more fun, including competition, HealthyWage’s team-based weight social features, miniloss challenges, puts to use both challenges, scoring positive and negative peer pressure, points, leaderboards and recognition, accountability, collaboration and monkey-see- awards, rewards, deeper monkey-do pathways. When combined with etc.—drives and more continuous expert support, rewards and competition, the engagement, and stage is set for weight loss success.” stronger outcomes.

The competition element even motivates more men to get involved with a workplace weight-loss program than would be the case otherwise. Workers’ desires to win, or to avoid losing or being left out, provides two critical tools that are often lacking: a reason to start and a reason not to quit. Staying the course with a desire to perform well helps participants achieve measurable results, whether that be related to weight loss, smoking cessation, or other modifiable health-related behaviors.

This Energy Industry Challenge has grown nearly 300% since its first year, prompting HealthyWage to offer other industry-specific challenges, including those in the Law and Education sectors.

It is the Left that will “speak and behave in ways that previously were considered un-American.” Here’s just a few examples:

THE INSIDE TRACK - BREAKING NEWS Obesity Protective of Dementia?

I

n a large health care study involving almost 2 million individuals conducted in the U.K., researches came across surprising results as they related body weight to the risk of dementia. The data suggests that underweight folks are at the highest risk of developing dementia while heavier souls, including those considered morbidly obese, had a significantly lower risk. The risk decreased as the BMI increased, leading researchers to speculate there may be some protective effect with increased body weight although they cautioned that being overweight may lead to early death from other causes.

Lloyd’s Bank Survives 3 Days of DoS Attack

I

n early January, Lloyd’s Bank was almost continuously hit with cyber attacks over a 3 day period in an attempt to shut down it’s website. These type of attacks are called “Denial of Service” attacks and are intended to shut down the victim’s website. Halifax, Bank of Scotland, and TSB, which shares the Lloyds tech platform, were also affected by the attack. A spokesperson for Lloyds said “We experienced intermittent service issues with internet banking between Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon the week before last and are sorry for any inconvenience caused. We had a normal service in place for the vast majority of this period and only a small number of customers experienced problems. In most cases, if customers attempted another log in they were able to access their accounts. We will not speculate on the cause of these intermittent issues.”

ISLAMISTS HAVE BEGUN NEW COLONIZATION OF U.S. Why One Political Party Is Aiding, Abetting & Accelerating The Process By Guest Columnist Michael F. Haverluck

The Obama administration’s earlier objective of admitting 110,000 refugees into America for the current fiscal year will be exceeded if the current influx is maintained, as approximately 110,580 are now projected to enter the U.S. It is contended that the spike in numbers is intentional and implemented with a clear purpose. “The refugees are also being concentrated in politically important states, suggesting there is an ideological agenda behind the population transfers,” WND reported. “Some might even say America is being ‘colonized.’” Islamizing America 24

“It’s difficult to prove that [Republican] states are being targeted, but I would say that swing states are definitely being loaded up with refugees,” Hohmann pointed out. “Ohio, Arizona, North Carolina and Florida are all among the top 10 or 12 states for refugee resettlement. “While the difference seems small and went unnoticed by most politicians, it reflects a drastic change that occurred around the 1970s in the nation’s overarching philosophy regarding immigrants,” WND noted. “They are no longer expected to assimilate, which places the onus on the immigrant to adapt to the dominant American culture

In a concerted effort to make Islam more culturally acceptable than Christianity through the indoctrination process in the public school system witnessed through the “multiculturalism” curricula – as seen in the federally imposed Common Core cookiecutter academic standards that is implemented in most states – Muslims are portrayed in a more positive light that Christians.

“If an American criticizes Muhammad or the Quran, for instance, that is now taboo because it may offend the immigrant,” Hohmann impressed. “That American is now a racist or an ‘Islamophobe.’ But the ax doesn’t swing both ways, so if the immigrant were to criticize something Inciting change about Christianity or the Bible, we “Moderate” Muslim Protesting Freedom In London Over the past don’t hear anything decades, a new era of terminology has been introduced to the … Expecting only ‘integration’ about that immigrant being a American public when it comes places the burden on the host ‘Christophobe.'” to the immigration of refugees, community to adapt to the as the politically correct term foreign culture being imported He insists that cultural divisions “integration” has replaced by the immigrants – meaning it’s and social tensions in American “assimilation,” in an effort to get now OK if these immigrants still communities that used to be Americans on board with the idea haven’t mastered English after a united are now being witnessed that Islamists will not be required decade or more in this country – throughout the nation – in to conform to the American and it’s OK if they prefer Shariah something he calls a “top-down mindset – but rather, resume over American values of equality cultural transformation” that is their religious identity and culture for women and respect for free being forced upon rural areas, speech rights, which can take the where “small town values” are apart from the mainstream. form of criticism of Islam.” being destroyed. 26

ANALYSIS-OPINION “Over time, all these factors combine and the community starts to change and becomes softened to the multicultural vision,” Hohmann added. “Then the government services are offered and more people come to take advantage of that – not only refugees but asylum seekers from Central America and elsewhere.” Because the proliferation of the Islamic immigration movement is still taking root, drastic shifts at the ballot box are not yet being registered, but Hohmann says social cohesion is the first thing that Americans will witness coming to an early end. He alerts that key states – including Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia – will see their political landscapes evolve as they transform from red to blue states. “Let’s face it, rural America is the last bastion of conservatism in the United States,” he asserted. “We saw that play out on election night Nov. 8. When all was said and done, it was rural and semi-rural America that brought home the victory for Donald Trump and sent him to the White House. Almost every city of more than 100,000 population went Democratic, as did many smaller cities that are home to colleges and universities, places like Chapel Hill and Carrboro, North Carolina, and Missoula, Montana.” www.underwritersinsider.com

The new colonization effect

One analyst of migration patterns, Diana West, says the Islamization trend in America can be confirmed by a report on Shariah law in the U.S. prepared by the Center for Security Policy. She insists that Islamic colonization is being administered for political reasons – a process that is benignly referred to as “refugee resettlement.”

destruction of the self-governing polity.” Noting the terrorist cells in German and the numerous attacks launched there in the name of Allah – the god of Islam – West maintains that government officials are now unsuccessfully trying to implement damage control to mitigate problems incurred from their lenient immigration policies.

“The goal is securing perpetual Democrat power, in fact, a oneparty state,” contended West, who also serves as a contributor with

“Just look at Germany in the wake of the most recent jihad attack on a Christmas market,” she pointed out. “The government response was to install hideous concrete barriers all around these lovely historic town markets throughout the country. The government’s objective was to prevent further eruptions of the jihad, increasingly common since the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Muslim and mainly male immigrants, which the “Moderate” Muslim Assimilating In London government itself imported.” WND. “The import of Islam into the West – and, more generally, other Third World peoples and cultures without a democratic tradition and few skill sets – make a self-governing polity less and less possible to maintain. The main reason is that with Islam comes the violence of jihad. End of story. With the violence of jihad comes the necessity for the super-security state. The EPA stated that the chemical in the environment “presents an unreasonable risk to human health.” But don’t stop reading yet. The fact that PFOA can be found in low levels in the environment, including the blood of almost all humans, does not mean that it is being transferred to our food via a fry pan, since the chemical is not even present in

Never broil on a Teflon coated surface, don’t grill on anything containing Teflon and never leave an empty Teflon coated pan on the burner. Thanks for the compliments on The Insider.

conservatives marching with chants calling for the murder of police officers? You may have heard liberals yelling, “What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!” In fact, virtually all of the violence against police -- whether it’s throwing stones, ambushing or murdering -- is committed by liberals or people who’d identify as Democrats. The fact of the matter is that if we were to examine criminality in America -whether talking about murderers, muggers or prisoners -- it would be dominated by Dr. Walter Williams people who would be described as liberals, Democrats and Hillary Clinton supporters. Democrats and liberals accuse Republicans of conducting a war on women. Assault, rape and murder are the worst things that can be done to a woman. I would bet a lot of money that most of the assaults, rapes and murders of women are done by people who identify as liberals, and if they voted or had a party affiliation, it would be Democratic. The application also asks for a “location address” of the property to be insured. The undisputed evidence in the present record indicates that the property associated with this insured location address exceeded five acres.

Dianne Brennan, an underwriting manager at Southern Insurance, the managing general agent for Great Lakes with regard to Queen’s policy testified by affidavit that if Queen had disclosed that the Property was greater than five acres, Southern Insurance could not have originally issued the Policy or continued coverage under the Policy.
