SHARING THE FUN! The annual Dodge County 4-H Share the Fun/Performing Arts Contest was held on Saturday, May 5th. Share the Fun provides an opportunity for 4-H members to experience performing in a group. They work toward a common goal and build steps for leadership while developing poise, discipline and self-confidence. 4-H members who participate in Performing Arts experience performing individually to showcase their talents. 4-H’ers participating in Share the Fun and Performing Arts also expand their interest, knowledge and skills in the performing arts. Overall, Share the Fun and Performing arts are exactly what their name implies: the fun of working together with others and sharing the results of the work with an audience. Congratulations to this year’s Share the Fun winners: •Grand Champion: A Band of 4-Hers, Canisteo Young Farmers •Performing Arts Grand Champion: Vocal Solo, •Miranda Steinfadt, Oslo All-Stars •Reserve Champion: Skit, Charlie & Sally Miller, •Canisteo Young Farmers Strivers FAVORITE FOOD SHOW During the Favorite Food Show a 4-H member’s exhibit consists of a display made by the member of a table-setting. The display should have a mounted photo of the project, recipe and menu. The member sets a place for one person with the appropriate table covering, dishes, glassware, silver, and centerpiece. 4-H’ers may pick a theme to build their display on. Members are then judged on their menu choices, nutrition values, cost per serving and table setting chosen. This fun and educational opportunity teaches youth to learn about food and nutrition, menu planning, and how to properly set a table. This year’s contest was held on Saturday, May 12th. Congratulations to this years winners: •Grand Champion: Charlie Miller (Lasagna), •Grade 6, Canisteo Young Farmers •Reserve Champion: Kristine Ocampo, •(Oatmeal Cookies), Grade 6, Ellington Jolly Juniors For more information about Share the Fun, Performing Arts, Favorite Food Show or other 4-H events, contact the Dodge County Extension Office (507)634-6641.

I am in my 27th year of working in our home town Kasson. I am also the 2012 Kasson Chamber of Commerce president, having previously served as vicepresident and ambassador representative. Shopping local is very important to me. Supporting all of our wonderful local businesses by buying local is critical to the success of the town’s economy. All of our local stores, retail, service and restaurant businesses depend on local residents for support. I believe we offer friendly service; a kind of hometown feeling when local people shop or do business with us. We want our new residents in town to support us with their buying dollars. I believe we offer a fair price, quick and reliable service for repairs, great food and great variety. All of this makes for a great town and we do hope to have a hometown advantage for the future. Being involved in the Kasson Chamber of Commerce is a great opportunity to meet so many people in business who are strong supporters of the community. We help out with special events and promotions to encourage residents to shop local. We want to have our local shoppers feel proud to keep their dollars in out town.
