grown from a small event to an annual festival. World-class musicians have performed throughout the years and this intergenerational day is now known by many for its mix of well-known jazz professionals and new artists. New voices from outside the mainstream are able to share their music with a new audience throughout the day alongside popular performers. The festival’s focus is jazz music, however it often includes other mediums addressing the art, art-

ists and audience. There is also an educational component tied to the event entitled “Behind the Beat: Intro to Jazz,” a series of ongoing workshops in public schools around the area meant to teach young people about jazz music. TRANSART hopes to make a new generation of listeners by exposing young people to the music, its history and artists. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit jazzinthevalleyny.org.
