It can be about how something works but the totality of any designed entity’s capacity to perform in multi-faceted ways is essentially expressed and dependent on its physicality— a form that when actualized in a very skillful way, the entity becomes cerebral and naturalistic in how it colligates with the mind and the context. Thus, in my opinion, Design is still a search for Form.”

AERIAL PERSPECTIVE

The project called for the design of a 25-bed hospital that is resilient to disaster events such as earthquakes, typhoons and flooding that is prevalent in the Philippines. The group provided for the clustering of structural entities of the building that allows it to move with the vibrations for a given project and reinforced the building perimeter, ts windows and openings to enable it withstand strong winds during typhoons. Pervious concrete and pavers were also used to promote permeability of ground cover that allows for the absorption of rain water and prevent flooding.

UNDERGRADUATE ARCHITECTURAL THESIS, 2014 YAMAHA HOUSE OF MUSIC: A HARMONIZED LOCUS FOR MUSICAL LEARNING, LEISURE AND LIFE BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, MAKATI CITY MODE: INDIVIDUAL SOFTWARE: SKETCHUP, VRAY FOR SKETCHUP, PHOTOSHOP

This architectural thesis proposes the design of a mixed-use music facility that comprises five major programs, namely, a Music Learning Facility, Music Performance Hall, Commercial Spaces for Lease, a Music Library, and a Music Store. The project is to be situated in Bonifacio Global City under a hypothetical client, Yamaha and G.A. Yupangco Co., Inc.. The design strategies focus on the development and application of an architectural circulation system (the Sound Park), the articulation of architectural material technology and strategic form-finding processes that integrate harmoniously with the program. It also focuses on the acoustic-programmatic aspect of the project that is essential to the uplifting of its design objectives. Through these strategies, the designed environment promotes an articulation between the different program typologies and the social elements involved within and around the surrounding context. This promotes not only the uplifting of the project goals as a singular architectural entity, but also provides a means to integrate and frame the social elements within the project making it “a Harmonized Locus for Musical Learning, Leisure and Life” –the Yamaha House of Music.

THE DESIGN INTENT +promotion of public practice for “jamming” sessions that reinforce the idea of public performance, and stimulating the feeling of the performer and promoting the mastery of performing in public performers +promotion of musical priming for the non-student users to allow for the imbibing of music to them as well +porosity is affirmed horizontally and vertically through zone voids as well as floor light voids that create transparency and connection between the sunken and the elevated sound park +promotion of musical instruments for site visitors to invite them into patronizing the musical instruments especially the ones carried by project’s music store

UNDERGRADUATE THESIS, 2014 YAMAHA HOUSE OF MUSIC BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, MAKATI CITY MODE: INDIVIDUAL SOFTWARE: SKETCHUP, VRAY FOR SKETCHUP, PHOTOSHOP The intent is to create a point within the site that will allow for site absorption in the attempt to activate the site and promote continuous user circulation from any point around and within it. the Northeast corner is a primary strategical point of focus when BGC visitors enter from the northern gate (Kalayaan Avenue). The path bifurcates into the sunken and the elevated Sound Park which allows for the propagation of social interaction, music inculcation, brand promotion, and the holding of other activities that promote income generation and site activity in the project.

ARCHITECTURAL THESIS DRAWINGS, 2012 DESIGN BY: FRANZ MIKO VERZON SOFTWARE: SKETCHUP, VRAY FOR SKETCHUP AND ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

This work involved a variety of skills essential to the production of the drawings required for the Architectural Thesis of Franz Miko Verzon. The work involved 3d modeling, computer rendering and photo-editing as well as layouting of the drawings. In addition, there were also times that I was involved in the design decision making for the architecture of the thesis design as well as the graphic design of the drawings produced for the project.

PRODUCT DESIGN: BEST BUTIL LANYARD, 2012 MEDIUM: HAND DRAWING + PHOTOSHOP This is part of the projects of the scholar’s organization that I joined when I was in college. In the schemes that I have made, I provided not only the options for the design of the graphics print for the surface of the lanyard but also the option for the design of the mechanism of the cord on how it connects to the hook and how its ends connect together and forms a closed loop for the neck of the users who will wear the lanyard.

DIGITAL ART: GRAPHIC DESIGN, DIGITAL PAINTING & DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION, 2012-2014 SOFTWARE: SKETCHUP, ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR AND ADOBE PHOTOSHOP FROM L-R: THREE-PART TEASER/POSTER, EVENT POSTER, THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE POSTER, COMPANY POSTER, MEMBERSHIP CARD, EVENT LOGO These are some of the projects I did for different college-based and university-wide organizations during my college years and for being a freelance artist. Each of these have different design specifics, problems and parameters that I have dealt with during the process of design. These also helped me both in design thinking and in software use through the variety of computer applications that the projects required me to use. These projects provided training of skills essential in the field of Architectural Design in a variety of ways most especially in the process design conceptualization, schematic planning and production.

TRADITIONAL DRAWINGS, 2007-2012 MEDIUM: GRAPHITE, BALLPOINT INK, MARKER, WATERCOLOR Visual Art has always been my passion ever since I could recall. Somehow it has become a part of who I am and a means for personal expression as to how I perceive the world around me. I think of this as my foundation for Architecture, because through art I have learned to be more observant of the world, to look at the details, to know both rationally and viscerally what is beautiful, what is tolerable, and what is not. My exposure to traditional art specifically in drawing has provided me skills that are not only means for architectural drawing but are also essential for the training of the “thinking eye which I think is essential to becoming a designer, especially in the field of Architecture.
