SNAPSHOT PHILADELPHIA SKATEBOARDING

This project is a reflection of the strength and steadfast pace of Philadelphia’s skateboarding community. The vigilance within the body of people that form this community has been growing at an impressive rate ever since Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) skate park was constructed in the mid 90’s as a DIY effort from local skaters. Re-purposing concrete, metal and wood to create an oasis for skateboarders in the city, hidden away under I-95, the multiple year building project now stands at the foundation for the Franklin’s Paine Skate park Fund. This newly emerging fund has been working hand in hand with local entities around the city to build skate parks in an effort to strengthen communities. As a skateboarder myself, I am continuing to find my place as I grow older, in both the skateboarding community and world. That being said, it is an ongoing effort to sustain and create an environment that is able to bring such happiness and emotion to others; remain vigilant. - Robert Kennedy
