Robert Emmets announce plans for centenary celebrations Robert Emmet's GAA Club in Castlefinn have announced plans for their Centenary Celebration weekend to be held from the 25th-29th October. The Centenary weekend is the culmination of a year long programme of events which has celebrated the achievements of Robert Emmet's over the last one hundred years, and the impact that the GAA has had on the wider community in the Castlefinn area. There is a wide and varied

programme planned for the weekend of the October Bank Holiday, with something to suit all tastes, from a children's fun morning to the Centenary Bingo to an exhibition match featuring ex players from throughout the Club's history. On Saturday 27th All-Ireland winner Frank McGlynn will officially open the new training pitch at Pairc Eimeid which has been planned and constructed over the last

three years by a dedicated group of volunteers. The finale will be the Centenary Banquet in Jackson's Hotel, Ballybofey on Sunday 28th, with music from one of the best bands in the north west, The Wailin Banshees. MC on the night will be Charlie Collins, and there will be interviews from the stage with some of the people who have worked over the years to make the Club what it is today.

Gary Doherty is Chairman of the Centenary Committee, and he hopes the community will come out in numbers to attend the many events over the weekend. "The Centenary weekend is the culmination of a year long celebration of the history of the GAA in our Parish. "It has already been a memorable year, from the Irish Night in Doneyloop Hall back in March to our very successful Sandy Harper/Shaun

T Carlin Centenary Tournament,” he said. “The community has supported us throughout and we hope they will do the same for the Centenary weekend. "We are one of the first Club's in the County to have celebrated a Centenary, and we are proud of the contribution Robert Emmet's have made to the Parish. "We hope the Centenary weekend will be a fitting tribute to the hundreds of

past players, officials, members and supporters who dedicated their lives to the Club over these one hundred years,” he added. Tickets for the Centenary banquet are now on sale priced at €30. Tables of 10 can also be booked to ensure groups can sit alongside each other, priced at €300. Please text 0876825967 or 0857564718 to order tickets or tables.

HUNGER: Burt boss Mickey McCann.

Mary-Anne McNulty sports reporter

Burt’s hurlers will be giving the Ulster club crown a good rattle, says boss Mickey McCann. The Hibernian Park men take on Monaghan champions Castleblaney in the quarter finals in Letterkenny this Sunday, and McCann says the desire is there to give the provincial title a good shot. Hurling success for the dual club would be a welcome boost after the footballers’ dire senior championship campaign ended with rel-

egation to intermediate status at the weekend. He said: “The boys are a bit down after the football, where we had five losses in a row in the championship. “But I think it’s just making them more determined to do well in the hurling. It’s been a while since we were in Ulster and the hunger is definitely there to do well. “Obviously being a dual club our

preparations haven’t been ideal. We’ve had five weeks of football and there’s been no real opportunity to play friendlies or anything. “In that respect Castleblaney will have a bit of a head start on us, but our boys have plenty of experience and they will know what to expect. “They are a strong outfit and it will be tight, but we know what we need to do to get past them.”

All set for the Junior A Final

Ladies captain gets married Numerous goodwill messages and congratulations poured in for Donegal GAA star and county captain Karen Guthrie who got married to Shaun McDaid at the weekend. The Donegal Ladies Gaelic Football Association has been among those to wish the couple "all the very best for the future." And it posted the picture above of the newly weds on its facebook page.
