Artistic Highlights from the ‘Love your Home Show’

Following on from last week’s column on green interiors in honour of St. Patrick, I thought I would continue the patriotism by showcasing some of the gifted Irish designers and artists that I met at the ‘Love your Home’ show in City West. In my opinion, the highlight of the show was the ‘Artist and Maker Village’ which covered a range of styles and disciplines with unique pieces in glass, ceramic, wood, textiles and various painting methods. Kildare was well represented with designers such as Emma Campbell from Kilmeague and Karen Hickey from Celbridge. Emma Campbells Stand was a haven of colour and happiness and showcased her new ‘Garden Collection’. I visited Emmas exhibition stand on the Sunday and it was no surprise to see that Emma had already sold a large volume from her stunning collection. Emma Campbell is an Irish artist whose roots derive from a mixture of contemporary and

abstract art, you will find her work right in the middle, combining these two styles together. While painting her collection pieces for exhibition and gallery work she also works on a commission basis creating one of a kind individual paintings. Emma works with Acrylics as her main medium, ensuring that each creation has an individual flair and twist. Emma Campbells Studio "The Art Lodge" is located just outside Kilmeague Village and is open for private viewings. For more information Emma can be reached via email at emmanizeart@gmail.com or via her website at www.emmacampbellart.com. Karen Hickey is another Kildare artist, based in Celbridge. Karen has a large portfolio bursting with colourful, quirky portraits. Each portrait portrays its own story and character. Her portraits are fun, emotional and full of personality so I was delighted to hear that some of her images are hanging at the Google offices at Grand Canal Dock in Dub-

lin. Karen Hickey works with many different media including charcoal, pencil, markers, chalk and oil pastels, watercolours, acrylics and most recently, spray paint. Karen has an online shop where art lovers can purchase original art, prints and beautiful printed cushions. See www.artistkarenhickey.com to view her full collection. Another designer that caught my eye was Michelle O’Donnell of Glasshammer Studios from Rhode, Co. Offaly. Michelle is an Artist and Sculptor who has worked extensively for public and private glass art commissions. Being a native of Donegal, the sea has always been a strong presence in the qualities Michelle brings when crafting with glass. Sea and Nature influences Michelle O’Donnells choice of soft colour bleeding and blending found in seascapes, or the dramatic sharp lines seen in landscapes. Her work can be seen in many private collections of Art, to include Collins Barracks Dublin, Smurfit Private Collection and
