March 19 and 20, 2011 Dear Athletes, Coaches, Families and Friends: On behalf of the Westport Soccer Association, welcome to WIN2011. This is the 31st Anniversary of our tournament and we happily continue to present young players with a quality soccer experience in both an indoor and outdoor environment. We thank those who have traveled far and hope that all participants have a great experience. As we have done for the past six years, the WSA and WIN Tournament supports the Coleman Brothers Foundation, which was established in memory of Keith and Scott Coleman. Both young men, who grew up playing soccer in Westport, lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks. The Coleman Brothers Foundation supports soccer players and others actively involved in youth soccer, who demonstrate a meaningful commitment to sportsmanship, leadership and integrity on and off the field. Support provided by the Foundation includes college scholarships to graduating high school seniors and grants to provide opportunities for children from families with financial needs to participate in travel and youth soccer programs. Please take a moment to look through this Program, taking note of the Tournament Rules in the middle of the program. We are grateful to all our advertisers and to those who have made donations. In particular, we thank our Platinum Sponsors: Poland Spring and Brooks Community Newspapers/ Connecticut Post, and our Premium Sponsors: Mickey Kydes Soccer, Athletic Shoe Factory Sports & Outdoors, and the Gudis Family Foundation. We also thank Marty Lisevick and the Staples High School Athletic Department for the use of their facilities. Special thanks go to Stuart McCarthy, Dan Devito and all our friends and supporters at Westport Parks & Recreation. Additional thanks go to Barbara Amacker, Mike Byrne, Lauren de Bruijn, Todd Coleman, Jessica Donahue, Lyn Hogan, Jeff Kiker, Elaine Marino, Bart Shuldman, WSA Registrar Cheryl Stoebe and graphic designer and WIN registrar Paula Sullivan Jones; to our travel team managers and to all the WSA parents who volunteered to assist at WIN over this weekend; to Joe Strickland for organizing referees; to “G for recruiting trainers; and to Nicole Ross and Dan Woog for recruiting Staples HS soccer players for various tasks. Good luck at WIN! Robby Casey, Tournament Director WIN 2011 Wesley Malowitz, President, Westport Soccer Association

GO TEAM!

31ST ANNUAL WESTPORT INVITATIONAL 2011 TOURNAMENT RULES Each participating USYSA player must have a current player pass and each Connecticut team must be registered with either CJSA or US Club Soccer. Rosters are frozen at the time of registration. Teams may bring all players officially rostered with their state governing soccer association to the tournament. All teams are allowed only six (6) players, including goalkeepers, on the field at any given time. Roster size is limited to twenty (20) players. Teams may include up to twenty (20) players as long as the minimum number of players is fielded for each match. All teams must field a minimum of six (6) players for each match. Only two (2) guest players are allowed per team. Teams may “suit-up” only a limited number of players for any single match. Coaches of all teams must indicate before the commencement of a match a maximum of twelve (12) specific players that will participate in that particular match. Coaches may use any combination of players in any of their team’s matches as long as no more than the maximum number of players “suit-up” for each match. Players not indicated as playing in a particular match may join their teammates on the team bench, but must either remove their game jerseys or wear pinnies. Substitutions are on the fly and may be made at any time. The replaced player must be off the field before the replacement player enters from the bench area. Each team must bring home and away numbered jerseys. If a color conflict exists the VISITING team will change. The home team is listed first on the schedule. The duration of a game is 24 minutes in a single period with no halftime. There will be no overtime. Tie standings at the end of the final go straight to FIFA Penalty Kicks. U9 through U11 teams will play indoors in the Staples Field House and the Staples and/or Bedford Middle School gyms. No cleats will be allowed to be worn for any indoor games. U12-U18 teams will play outdoors on synthetic turf fields. All U-9 and U10 games are non-result oriented and no standings will be kept for these age groups. Group standings for U11-U18 age groups will be determined as follows: Most points (win = 3 points; tie = 1 point; loss = 0 points) Head-to-head (does not apply if more than 2 teams tied in points) Most wins Total bonus points FIFA penalties – Best of three frames

Penalty for late arrival: Referees may delay the start of a game by 2 minutes, after which teams will be penalized 1 goal for every minute late, up to 3 minutes. After 5 minutes, the late team will forfeit the game. All games will end 24 minutes after the official start time, regardless of when the games actually start (i.e., due to a team’s late arrival). Tournament officials reserve the right to modify this rule as they deem necessary and appropriate in maintaining flow of play. Bonus points are awarded for goal difference per game, a maximum of 3 points. The outdoor offside rule does not apply. The goalkeeper “pass back rule” does apply. On goal kicks and keeper possessions, the ball must touch either the floor or a player from either team before crossing the mid-field line. Violation results in an indirect free kick from the midfield. Free kicks will be either direct or indirect, depending on the foul (FIFA rules apply). Defending players must be at least five yards from the ball. Anytime a ball hits an overhead obstruction, play is restarted by an indirect free kick from the midfield line. KICK-INS will be used to restart play instead of throw-ins. They are indirect. Sliding tackles will NOT be permitted. A Zero Tolerance Policy regarding unsportsmanlike conduct for players, coaches and spectators is in effect for the entirety of the tournament. An ejection of a player or coach is an automatic forfeit of that game and an automatic suspension from the following two (2) games. The tournament directors reserve the right to permanently suspend particularly unruly players or coaches. It is the coach’s responsibility to manage and control the behavior of his/her team’s spectators. In the event an unruly spectator’s behavior cannot be calmed by the respective team’s coach, the match will be halted and tournament officials will eject the unruly spectator and require him/her to vacate the tournament facility for the remainder of the tournament. If the unruly spectator has left the tournament facility within three (3) minutes, play will resume for the full remainder of the match. If the unruly spectator has not left within three (3) minutes of his/her ejection, the game will be forfeited by the respective team. Instances of unsportsmanlike conduct occurring at times other than during match play will be addressed as deemed appropriate by tournament officials. Outcomes may include (but may not be limited to): game or title forfeiture, game or tournament ejection of involved individual(s) or team(s), barred future tournament participation by individual(s) or team(s). Decisions of the referees and tournament officials will be final and NOT subject to appeal. Refunds will be given if the tournament facilities are not open due to weather, power outage or similar incident and will consist of full registration fee less an administrative charge of $50. In Loving Memory

Keith Coleman 1967-2001

Scott Coleman 1970-2001

COLEMAN BROTHERS FOUNDATION

Keith and Scott Coleman grew up in Westport, Connecticut, playing soccer, baseball and wrestling. As adults, Keith and Scott worked together at Cantor Fitzgerald as colleagues, brothers and friends. Keith and Scott died in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. The Coleman family and the Westport Soccer Association have formed the Coleman Brothers Foundation to support soccer players and others actively involved in youth soccer programs, who demonstrate a meaningful commitment to sportsmanship, leadership and integrity on and off the field. Support provided by the Foundation includes college scholarships to graduating high school seniors and grants to provide opportunities for boys and girls from families with financial needs to participate in travel and other youth soccer programs, coaching or refereeing. The Westpor t Soccer Association supports the Coleman Brothers Foundation by donating proceeds from the WIN Tournament to the Foundation. We hope you will join us in this effort. The Westport Soccer Association and its Board Members thank the Coleman family for their support and for sharing their memories of Keith and Scott for the benefit of other young soccer players. If you would like to contribute to the Coleman Brothers Foundation, you ma y do so online at www.westportsoccer.org. Or you may send a check payable to “WSA – Coleman Brothers Foundation” in c are of: Day Pitney LLP, One Canter bury Green, Stamford, Connecticut 06901-2047 Attn: M. Byrne. Cont ributions are t ax deductible. The Westport Soccer Association’s Federal Tax Identific ation Numbe r is: 06-1063236.

THE EVERTON ACADEMY A UNIQUE APPROACH TO THE SOCCER DEVELOPMENT OF ELITE PLAYERS

SOCCER CLINICS... FROM THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE “Tread the grapes!” “Check your shoulders!” “Play in the gaps!” “Receive on your back foot!” These are just some of the instructions you will hear from Everton America coaches. This is not your everyday soccer coaching. This is coaching the Everton Way... direct from the very best English Premier League Academy. In the past twelve years The Everton Way has turned more young players into professionals (24) than just about any system in the world, including a certain Wayne Rooney. You can visit this amazing youth soccer coaching curriculum at www.theevertonway.com or call Dave at 203 912-6158 to arrange a clinic or camp for your club or team.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL PLAYERS OF THE WESTPORT INVITATIONAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT. EVERTON AMERICA 58 Hawks Hill Road, New Canaan CT 06840 203-966-8081 www.evertonamericact.com
