PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY
PROGRESS REPORT COUNCIL CHAIRMAN DERRICK LEON DAVIS SPRING 2016 Greetings 6th District Partner, I am pleased to provide this District 6 Progress Report, and to share with you the exciting news happening in District 6 and throughout Prince George’s County! Development activity is occurring throughout District 6 as investors recognize the enormous potential of our communities in “the heart” of Prince George’s County. (A map is enclosed for your orientation and information.) New investment in our County brings employment opportunities, strengthens our commercial tax base, and decreases the County’s reliance on homeowners and property taxes. Thanks to your partnership, there have been many groundbreakings and ribboncuttings during the past year, and many more are planned.

Policy changes are also taking place. My colleagues and I enacted legislation to support Common Ownership Communities and established the Blue Ribbon Commission on Addressing Prince George’s County’s Structural Deficit. The long-awaited Continuous Business Process Improvement Study of Prince George’s County Public Schools has begun. As the FY2017 budget cycle progresses, the Council exercised its fiduciary role to ensure that a balanced spending plan was adopted reflecting citizen priorities. During the 2015 Legislative Year, I served as Vice-Chair of the County Council and my colleagues unanimously elected me to serve as Chair of the Council in the 2016 Legislative Year. The shared commitment of this Council for our Council districts and for Prince George’s County is always to improve the quality of life for residents.
