This is an exam that is designed to meet the physical principles and instrumentation requirements of the RDMS, RDCS and RVT credentials. Those who wish to pass the ARDMS exams must pass both SPI and another corresponding specialty within five years. However once earned, professionals can earn other credentials without having to repeat the SPI. Thos who are already active registrants do not have to take the SPS exam to maintain current credentials. However if they want to earn additional credentials they have to take the SPI exams.
