April 9th, 1865 Men charge across the field, A sea of blue A sea of gray. Rifles go up, Cannons come out. Bullets whiz through the air, Sinking through flesh, Shattering bones, And splattering brains. Cannons are bowling balls Plowing through soldiers. The sound is deafening Like 1,000 bricks falling to the ground. The air is filled with the smell of rotting flesh. The odor is a fog Swallowing the soldiers. Men fall like dominoes, One after another, And they never get up.

A Penguin’s Game
A small fuzzy head Pops out of the snow. It starts to wiggle And out jumps a penguin. He falls onto his belly And slides down the ice Like a sled With no reason to stop Until he plunges into the water. He is a torpedo Dashing for a fish. It is a game That penguins like to play Chasing their prey And getting to know them Before swallowing them in one big gulp. They emerge from the water Eager to play on land. They play with other penguins In the dark of Antarctica Until their mom calls them in To settle down And snuggle in To sleep.

Mystical Mountaintop I step outside Into the cool, crisp air. I start to walk to my secret place. Soon I am a cheetah, fast as lightning, As I run towards my secret place. I am a shark, powerfully gliding through the water, As I swim to my secret place. I am a monkey, strong as can be, As I climb towards my secret place. I am a bird, flying through the air, As I fly to my secret place. I am a frog, leaping high, As I jump to my secret place. I am a lion, no turning back, As I stride towards my secret place. I am a snake, quiet and sneaky, As I crawl to my secret place. I sit down In the cool, crisp air And watch the world from my secret place.
