Goal Card Career Forum We held our seventh annual Goal Card Career Forum on May 8 at Southern College of Optometry. The daylong program taught high school students to manage their financial lives now and plan for their future. Adult mentors led break-out sessions concentrating on individualized tracks for success, including college,

vocational or career. More than 25 vendors, including FedEx, AutoZone, First Tennessee Bank, the Memphis Fire Department and International Paper, provided insight into career opportunities and their companies during the “vendor stroll.� Nearly 100 high schoolers were in attendance.

Goal Card CSA Program As an extension of our Goal Card program, this 4-week economic literacy training in June equipped teen participants with the skills and knowledge to make sound financial decisions. Participants also learned to maintain savings in preparation for the 36-month pilot program, with the goal of having a significant amount saved by graduation. The four-part weekly module provided extensive financial education in the following areas: (1) budgeting, (2) saving and investing, (3) spending, and (4) earning/ entrepreneurship. RISE selected 20 Melrose High School rising sophomores to participate in the CSA program. The institute was held in the heart of the Orange Mound community at Red Zone Ministries.

CRA Event Karen Madlock, Save-Up Senior Program Coordinator, presented for the RISE Foundation at the Better Credit, Better Communities Credit Fair on June 9. The event was hosted by Memphis Area CRA Association at Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church. Karen spoke about our Save Up program and gave an overview of how RISE helps youth through Goal Card and senior communities through Silver Neighbors.
