Second Batch of Raffles Diploma Graduates Impresses with All-Round Excellence [1 March 2013] – A total of 1240 students at Raffles Institution (RI) sat for the 2012 GCE 'A' Level Examinations. This is the fourth cohort to complete the six-year Raffles Programme (RP), the through-train programme offered by RI and Raffles Girls' School. It is also the sixth cohort of students offering the revised 'A' Level curriculum introduced in 2006. Out of this cohort, 75% were from the Raffles Schools, while 25% joined RI through the Joint Admissions Exercise. 2 Even before the release of the ‘A’ Level Examinations results, 45 students have received provisional scholarships from the various scholarship agencies, such as the PSC, A*STAR and GIC. 3 53 students have been offered places at Cambridge University, and 39 at Oxford University. This is one of the highest, if not the highest, number of students from a single institution offered places at Oxford and Cambridge in the world. 28 students have also received early decision offers from top US universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford.

At the Schools National Sports and Games Competitions last year, we achieved 27 Gold, 11 Silver and 2 Bronze awards for the ‘A’ Division. 11 Many outstanding Rafflesian athletes, such as Ang Chen Xiang, Krystal Khoo, Ong Cheng Jing, Dylan Ban, Daniel Tan and Nathan Tang, who represented Singapore at various international competitions i.e. SEA Games, ASEAN School Games and the Youth Olympic Games, scored at least six distinctions despite their hectic sporting commitments. 12 Accomplished local young musicians Selina Tang, John Lee Sen Jet and Qian Dong Heng scored at least six distinctions. 13 Dedicated community activists and student leaders, such as I Naishad Kai-Ren, Stephanie Siow, Carey Lim, Isabelle Lim and Seah Ern Xu scored at least seven distinctions. 14 This outstanding showing at the 2012 A-level Examinations, together with the parallel RD certification, reflects the holistic Raffles experience which brings out the best in all our students. With this, RI continues its tradition of nurturing thinkers, leaders and pioneers who will give back to the community and make a positive impact on the nation.
