From Dave’s Desk Here we are towards the end of another month and I’m excited for the season ahead. We have a full calendar of events planned and looking forward to seeing our seasonal members return for another year. There are a couple of items I wanted to remind members of as we move forward into a great year! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

INITIATION FEE REINSTATEMENT As a reminder for all non-golf members, the club will start to charge an initiation fee effective November 1, 2016. We are offering anyone that is not currently a golf member the opportunity to join without an initiation fee prior to November 1, 2016. The new initiation fee will start at $10,000. This is a great opportunity and time to join the Club if you were ever considering playing golf. For more information please contact Susan Martin at RESIGNATION POLICY UPDATE Effective November 1, 2016 the resignation policy changes to a 90 day notice. This change helps the club forecast membership dues and movement moving forward. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Susan Martin in our membership office or myself.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS As I mentioned in my article last week, we are now accepting online credit card payments for membership accounts. Again there is a service/convenience charge for this and is only available online through the club website.

GUESTS CHECKING IN We love having your friends, family and guests here at the Club! As we move forward with some new operational procedures, we want to ensure each of your guests receive the best experience possible. We are now asking that when you have a guest playing golf with you to please have them check into the pro shop.

I know this will be a big change, but it allows us to interact with your guests and ensure they have a first class experience when on property. We would also love to have you as members check in so we can say hello and good morning/ afternoon! Again, another operation change we will be looking to make this season. We thank you for your assistance in helping us provide the best Rio Verde experience possible.

HOLIDAY FUND I touched base a couple weeks ago on the Holiday fund for this year and how much it means to the associates here at Rio Verde. You all will be receiving your email/letter from the Board of Directors asking for your contribution this year. As a reminder this fund goes to all associates and not just those that you see every day. This is a great thank you to those behind the scenes making your member experience great. I want to thank all of you in advance for your generous contribution this year. MEMBER RETENTION & RECRUITMENT I’m excited to announce that we now have an official open play group for member recruitment and retention. For years the Desert Drivers have been a standing group on Fridays. After reviewing their efforts to keep current members in the club and also to welcome new members we have agreed to make this an open play group (meaning anyone can play weekly) to continue the efforts for member retention and growth. Each Friday the group will play golf, meet for lunch, and continue to tell stories. Until next time… Cheers!

It's been a busy week preparing White Wing for opening day. The team is hard at work reseeding and mulching thinly seeded areas around the golf course. It's important to remember that the grass is still extremely young, and not fully matured. On some of the plants there is only a single leaf blade, which in time, will mature to a healthy plant with several leaf blades. As we move through the fall, the turf density will become heavier and heavier, but currently the plant is still young and susceptible to damage from cart traffic which is why we are cart path only after opening. Quail Run is starting to show signs of growth. Many of the tee boxes have good seed germination, and I expect we should see some good progress this coming week. We will continue to seed and mulch thin areas on Quail as needed. We continue to add drainage in areas where water has continued to lay on the surface. During the closure the team has also been busy cleaning up weeds, as well as trimming trees around the course. Have a great week and see you on the course. Food and Beverage News We have a full calendar of events coming up and I am excited about each and every one. If you love food, the club is the perfect place to be! Our Macaroni & Cheese Experience Night will be the social event of the week. Come and craft your own unique dish, putting a creative spin into comfort food. As an Iowa boy, my personal favorite is the corn and bacon, however, there are so many other options to choose from at our Chef attended stations. Our traditional Wednesday night Experience Night will move to Monday on October 31st, for the Halloween Spooktacular. Costumes are encouraged, so don’t get tricked and miss this event, it is sure to be a treat! Also, sign up today for our Season Kickoff Party Mixer on Thursday, November 3rd. Come enjoy drink specials, try some amazing small bites at the Chef stations, and say hello to your returning friends. With so many great things happening, there is no reason to stay home! Roma tomatoes, cored and halved

1 medium

white onion, cut into 1/2-inch slices

4 medium

garlic cloves, peeled and smashed

2 medium

jalapenos, stemmed


kosher salt, plus more as needed

1/4 c

coarsely chopped fresh cilantro


freshly squeezed lime juice, plus more as needed.

Method Place the tomato halves skin-side up on a baking sheet. Scatter the onion, garlic, and jalapeno around the tomatoes. Broil until the tomato skins start to blacken and blister, about 7 minutes. Transfer the vegetables to a blender, add the measured salt, and blend into a smooth purĂŠe. Transfer to a medium heatproof bowl and let cool to room temperature. Stir in the cilantro and lime juice, taste, and season with more salt and lime juice as needed.
