Parks, Recreation and Community Services

Rio Rancho Parks & Recreation “To create and maintain spaces and activities that grow a greater sense of community and enhance the quality of life for its residents.”

Message from the Director: Dear Residents and Guests, The City of Rio Rancho is proud to announce the one year anniversary of A Park Above. A Park Above is the first fully-inclusive and accessible playground in New Mexico where all children can come together, interact, be included, and grow through the gift of play. A Park Above is located on six acres at 2441 Westside Court near Rust Medical Center. The park will even be more fun and exciting when the splash pad is activated in May. Become a Park Ambassador! The City of Rio Rancho is looking for individuals and organizations who might enjoy spending a few hours per week keeping this wonderful park clean and safe. Training will be provided and potential volunteers will learn about park operations, hours, maintenance requirements, and how to assist people with disabilities. For more information about how you can volunteer at A Park Above, please call 505-219-5684 or 505-994-6338. Thanks for browsing our Summer brochure and I look forward to seeing you around this summer.

For more information on upcoming events please visit www.santaanastarcenter.com

How to Watch a Good Program Die Sincerely, Connie Peterson, Director

BE ACTIVE! Rio Rancho Call 505-891-5015, or stop by City Hall or the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center to sign up for programs offered through the City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Nothing kills a recreation program faster than residents who wait until the last minute to register. There is a point when a program must be cancelled or modified if there is insufficient registration. All programs require a high level of coordination often including facility scheduling, staffing, volunteer recruitment, and purchasing of supplies.

Photo Policy Participants permit the taking of photos and videos of themselves and their children during Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department activities, programs, and special events for publication and use as the department deems necessary.

Volunteers Many of our programs depend on volunteer help. If you wish to put your expertise to use in a program or would like to find out what volunteer opportunities are available, please call us at 891-5015.

T’ai Chi Chih T’ai Chi Chih – serenity in the midst of activity – is a series of 19 movements and one pose, which were originated by Justin Stone. Mr. Stone taught T’ai Chi Ch’uan for many years before developing a new technique which he called T’ai Chi Chih. T’ai Chi Chih is simple and easy to learn with benefits usually beginning from the first class. The gentle movements emphasize a flowing continuity and strongly stimulate the flow and balance of Chi or the “vital force” in the body. Benefits of regular T’ai Chi Chih practice can include stress reduction, weight and blood pressure control, increased energy, and a greater enthusiasm for life. As the practitioner becomes relaxed, a new understanding and perspective is formed, creative energy flows more freely, and greater joy in everyday life becomes apparent. Registration deadline is one week before the course begins. • • • • • • •
