Mental Golf Tip door Mike Williams

So, let me ask you this: when did you

last train different shots? When did you go to the range and intentionally hit three different shots with the same club or even with different clubs?

I had a great session with a member last week and as I’m not sure if he would like his name being plastered all over the Rinkpen I will refer to him as CP. He is already an accomplished player sitting just above a single handicap but wanting to move into single figures. We spoke about ball flights and how his always tends to be a slice and that he had never really hit a draw. To cut a long story short he did not really understand what created a draw and a fade (hook and slice). His concepts were incorrect. Once he understood clearly what the concept was, he hit a draw within three goes!

So, having a clear intention of shot comes before technique as every shot has a different technique just like in tennis!

Challenge/Tip: Next time you go to the range just spend 30 minutes intentionally trying to do something different with the ball flight. This could be different heights, speeds or shapes – anything goes!

Would this make your score better?

Maybe not straight away but it is the definition of skill and more skill will eventually lower your score!
