Depending on where you live, where you’re going, and your abilities, there are a range of transportation services that are available to Somerset County residents. Some examples include:

BASKING RIDGE Morris & Essex Train/Gladstone Branch GENERAL INFORMATION Open to the public

7 days per week

This station platform is not accessible to mobility devices.

There are two train lines that make up the Morris & Essex Line. The Morristown Line runs from Hackettstown to New York Penn Station. The Gladstone Branch runs from Gladstone to Hoboken Terminal. Passengers can transfer at Newark Broad Street Station or Summit Rail Station to change rail lines. Connections to PATH and Ferry service can be made at Hoboken Terminal.

COST The fare is based on the distance traveled. Tickets can be purchased from the vending machine located on the platform. Riders can purchase tickets aboard the train without penalty only if there is no ticket agent or ticket vending machine available. A $5 surcharge is applied to tickets purchased aboard trains if a ticket agent or ticket vending machine is available at the time of boarding. Mobile ticketing is also available using the MyTix app from the App Store or Google Play. Customers with disabilities and senior citizens (age 62 and older) may purchase tickets aboard any train without penalty. Conductors cannot accept bills larger than $20.

BASKING RIDGE Lakeland Bus GENERAL INFORMATION The Lakeland 78 bus travels to the NY Port Authority. Local service is not available.

One-way tickets can also be purchased on the bus from the driver. Customers departing from the Port Authority Bus Terminal must have a ticket or pass to board the bus. Drivers will not accept cash for these trips. Reduced fare coupons are required to purchase reduced fare tickets. Reduced fare coupons can be obtained at the main terminal in Dover, New Jersey. Reduced fare coupons may also be obtained at the Port Authority Bus Terminal ticket windows #1-10.

DISCOUNTED FARE

Senior citizens age 62 and older and persons with disabilities with ID may take advantage of the reduced fare at any time.

BEDMINSTER Municipal Van GENERAL INFORMATION Residents of Bedminster who are age 55 and older and persons with disabilities age 18 and older.

Bedminster Township offers complimentary van service for residents age 55 and older and persons with disabilities age 18 and older. Residents must be pre-approved by the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills (VNA) to ride the van.

This bus provides service to the NYC Port Authority and local service between Princeton, Kendall Park, Franklin Park, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, and East Brunswick. Individuals with mobility devices should call ahead 72 hours in advance to ensure the vehicle has a lift.

A valid ID (Medicaid/Medicare/Drivers License) is required to purchase half fare tickets. Individuals with disabilities must complete a NJ TRANSIT reduced fare application, which needs to be certified by a physician, and then show the card when needed.

WHERE TO BOARD The Suburban 100 bus mainly travels along Route 27 from Princeton through Franklin Park, Somerset and on to New Brunswick. Riders should board at an official bus stop sign. In order to use Access Link, riders must first apply for eligibility. All persons interested in applying for Access Link service are required to attend an in-person transportation assessment interview. Access Link does not take assessments over the phone or by mail. To arrange for a transportation assessment appointment, please contact NJ TRANSIT by dialing 1-800-955-2321 (TT 1-800-955-6765) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Choose option #1 when calling.

R  iders can find out when the next NJ TRANSIT bus is arriving at bus stops all over Somerset County. Call 973-275-5555 or text the bus stop ID number to mybus (69287) and you’ll get the next scheduled buses to arrive at your stop.

Service Dogs Only service animals accompanying customers with disabilities or their trainers, police dogs, and small pets in carry-on travel cages are allowed on-board the NJ TRANSIT trains, buses and light rail vehicles. Service animals are also allowed on the Somerset County Transportation, Lakeland, TransBridge and Suburban Transit buses listed in this guide.
