Meet Bruce Johnson Between splitting time between living in Nashville and Tallahassee, FL, Bruce and his wife Rubye decided that it was time to settle down and have someone take care of them for a change. They chose middle Tennessee because of the easy access to the excellent medical care in Nashville. Choosing to reside at the Fountains of Franklin was easy as it was extremely close to their family, and the staff and facility were absolutely wonderful. Bruce grew up in the panhandle of Oklahoma, in a town named Alva. He was the middle son out of three boys. During his high school years, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Bruce graduated from Highland Park High School. After high school, he entered the Navy and was stationed at a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He then attended Southern Methodist University and worked at Baylor Hospital. During his employment at the hospital, they were installing their first air conditioning system, which is how he became interested in the process and ended up changing his career. Bruce began to design and install HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems. He worked as a part owner of Dallas Plumbing Company for 40 years, first as an HVAC engineer, designing and installing commercial and residential systems, and then as the head of plumbing and heating/air conditioning service department. Bruce and Rubye married after mutual friends introduced them. They have a large family, including children and grandchildren living across the states. Their family stretches from Dallas to Nashville to Pittsburgh and all the way to Tallahassee. Rubye passed away two years ago and Bruce misses her every day. When asked what his dreams are, he said that he’d like to go on another cruise with his family.

No RSVPs are required, unless you have a large group attending. If you have a group of 6 or more, please let us know so that we can provide adequate seating for you.

Meet Shirley Burns Shirley came to the Fountains through a current resident who she cared for at another facility. When the resident was moving here, she took Shirley’s resume with her and gave it to Sue, who several months later called Shirley for an interview. Shirley was so excited to work at the Fountains and to meet new residents! Initially working as a certified tech, Shirley has been a nurse since 1990. She worked at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky for 25 years. Since moving to Nashville, Shirley has worked three years at a company that provides medicine for prisoners, and the last eight years at assisted living facilities. Shirley has been married to Bill for 48 years. They met when she was only twelve and remained friends until Bill was going to Vietnam in 1968. When Shirley was only 16 and Bill was 19, they got married before he crossed the ocean and was deployed. The couple had three children, a boy, born in 1971 but only lived 3 days, and then two girls, Serena and Danielle. The couple has been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Cameron 18, Addison 15, and Victoria 2. When Shirley is not at work, she loves to watch movies, especially Hallmark movies and musicals. She also loves to go shopping, even when she doesn’t buy anything. Shirley used to make pottery and would like to restart that hobby when she has spare time. Shirley is looking forward to retiring, so that she can spend more time with her children and grandchildren. Bill and Shirley have always wanted to open a small Christian coffee shop. Shirley truly enjoys working here and says that she feels the management and the staff are very professional and caring, almost like an extended family. Her role at the Fountains is to be the best caregiver she can be. Shirley lives by the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
