Recreation Program Registration The Park District offers 3 ways to register. Walk-in registration is open during business hours Mon-Thur 9-5pm and Fri 9-4pm. 39th Annual Run Through the Pines August 11, 2018 The 39th Annual Run Through the Pines will be held around beautiful Lake Gregory on Saturday, August 11, 2018. This year the run will start and finish at the new Lake Gregory Education/Community Center. This run is a great high-altitude challenge situated at 5000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains. The town of Crestline, CA opens its community to the runners and their families and becomes a big part of this event. Registration is now open at

Contract Classes—Spring Acrobatic Dance (March—May)

Beginning American Sign Language (March—May)

Acrobatic Dance, located at the Dance & Fitness Studio in Rimforest, combines jazz, ballet, lyrical, and contemporary dance choreography with acrobatic/tumbling skills which highlight a student’s athletic dance abilities. This choreography-based program is fun and upbeat and helps students with flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance. Instructor strongly recommends a concurrent gymnastics class as well as a dance class to improve the skills needed for this class. Instructor: Michele Bryer

Learn a different language! Not only is ASL beneficial for those who are hard of hearing or deaf , you can utilize this language when sound cannot be used. You can hold a conversation underwater, in a noisy room, or even at a movie. Participants will learn letters, numbers, words, and phrases. Located at the Dance & Fitness Studio in Rimforest, Each class incorporates structured classical ballet and jazz instruction with contemporary and lyrical dance techniques through barre, center, and across-the-floor combinations (including leaps, turns, spins, and kicks). Contract Classes—Spring Recreational Gymnastics, Tumbling, & Rhythmic (March—May) This co-ed, non-competitive program offers multi-level classes that teach a combination of rhythmic, gymnastic and tumbling theories that include vocabulary and etiquette in addition to proper execution of beginning-advanced floor and apparatus skills. After warmup/stretch, students learn rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, walkovers and handsprings, etc. followed by apparatus instruction (single and parallel bars, balance beam, mini-ring and trampoline). Other skills learned are head/hand stands, bridges, splits, jumps and scales. Advanced students learn floor/beam combinations and rhythmic students learn choreography that incorporates ribbons, balls, or hoops with tumbling skills. Programs assist with self-confidence, agility, balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility. Sign-up for 2 classes per week and save $11. Nicole’s Art Class for Children (March—May) Nicole’s Art Class teaches children a variety of skills and provides students with an opportunity to explore the different art mediums. Children will leave the class with artistic technique, greater understanding of art history, and a shared appreciation for what goes into the creation of artwork. Art Instruction for Adults

Students will learn the skills to draw realistically and learn to see objects in a new way. Art 1 drawing class will instruct students in the basic elements of line drawing. After mastering techniques in observation, students will learn about value and how to shade in detail. Art 2 will continue the process of learning to draw realistically by developing knowledge of texture, negative space, and simple color concepts. Join the great drawing adventure and have fun learning something new in art. All participants must take Session 1 before taking Session 2. Instructor: Lisa Garland

Can’t sew on a button or put in a zipper? Join us at the District Office Meeting Room in Rimforest to learn sewing skills or improve the ones you have. Class is open to all levels or anyone interested in learning the basic sewing techniques, projects, and odds and ends. Students will also learn how to make an apron and a zippered pillow. Break Dancing is the original Hip-Hop dance! Instructor Ezequiel offers a one-of-a-kind class for those truly interested in learning the different moves while tapping into their own style. This class welcomes boys and girls, 8 years old and up who want to define their break dancing abilities, and of course any and all curious newcomers! The Egoscue Method is postural therapy and restores the body back to it’s designed posture, alleviating pain and returning you back to an active, pain -free lifestyle. Through this exercise program, your muscles will be reeducated, being reminded how they need to be functioning in order to maintain proper alignment. This is an exploratory exercise program and you can go at your own pace. Each exercise can be modified to your level of ability. Guitar with Kane This class will focus on accelerated guitar teachings for beginners and intermediate participants, using creative out-of-the-box methods focused on muscle memory and catering to each student’s personal motivations. Japanese Karate-Do Located at the Twin Peaks Senior/Community Center, Shito-Ryu Karate-Do is a traditional Japanese martial art taught by 5th Degree Black Belt and Genbu-Kai Black Belt Hall of Fame member sensei Greg Collier. Students will learn basic and advanced techniques including various blocks, strikes, stances, kicks, sweeps, throws, takedowns, choke holds, etc. Students will also learn various traditional katas (forms) and kumite (sparring ) as well as self-defense for street encounters. The mission of Sunrise Children’s Club is to provide a high-quality, age-appropriate, and nurturing environment that your preschooler will flourish within. Our focus is to provide a stimulating early education experience which promotes each child’s social/emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Learning centers in the classroom offer the child an opportunity to make his or her own choices by experiencing manipulative materials at his or her own rate of interest. Fear Not Kickboxing & Self-Defense Training

Kickboxing is a group fitness class that combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio. This high energy workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout. Self-Defense teaches you to escape, resist, or defend yourself against punches, kicks, grabs, chokes, and weapons. Survive violent attacks with skills that make you assertive and psychologically aware of your surroundings. As a bonus you will also learn the basic ground fighting techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Instructor: Robert Moss

Mexican Folkloric Dance (Beginning) The class will begin with a total body warm-up for about 15-20 minutes. The first dance to be taught will be a vigorous high-energy dance but will be taught very slowly until gradually the students are up to par with the music. Rick Moreno will explain and break down the dance steps beat by beat and rhythmical counts. The students will also learn body movement and posture according to styling of dance. Rick Moreno will use the most traditional music and eventually introduce costumes and simple choreography. He will also be explaining aspects of the Mexican culture as it pertains to the dance. Munchkins and Munchies This is a once-a-month event! Kids free play for an hour in our KidCentered Gym. The group has a ball pit, tumbling mats, slides, balance beams, parallel bars, tunnels, a trampoline, and plenty of padded blocks to make obstacle courses. Then we sit down to share a potluck lunch. Fear Not Mixed Martial Arts Training All ages will enjoy the positive benefits that carry over to all aspects of life such as improved grades, focused concentration, confidence, respect for life, team spirit, fitness, agility, better health, and the ability to defend your-self. We practice Taekwondo, or “Korean Karate” for its advanced long-range kicking techniques, and Hapkido for its mid-range sweeps, throws, and joint locks. We like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at close-range because it is the best system to use when defending from the ground where it is said that 90% of fights will end up. Jeet Kune Do concepts teach us to use the best type of martial art for a given situation and ability to transform to another style as the situation demands. MMA has something for everybody. Nerf Ninja Nights

Drop your ninjas off with us for an evening of Nerf fun and games while you get some peace and quiet. Children will be challenged with games including target practice, capture the flag, team VS team matches, and end with an all-out every-man-for-himself NERF WAR! Each child MUST bring his or her own Nerf gun and water bottle. An arsenal of Nerf darts and a treat will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up early. Pre-kinder children will experience an introduction to art materials, musical instruments, sensory activities, and more while working to improve focus, increase attention, and follow direction. Parents are introduced to creative ways to engage their children using materials they can make at home. SkillBuilders is a gently structured environment designed to build excitement toward learning and confidence using school materials. Instructor: Dawn Diggle

Have fun with your children exploring a variety of motor-skill activities in our Kid-Centered Gym! Watch them crawl, run, climb, jump, hang, swing, and more while working on confidence, core strength, balance, and coordination. Before & After School Programs

Currently, our Before & After School program resides at Lake Arrowhead Elementary. If the Park District receives enough interest at Valley of Enchantment Elementary or Charles Hoffman Elementary, this type of program can be available at those locations. Children in the program are provided with an array of activities, outside group play, games, and curriculum to keep them occupied before they start school or after school until pick-up time. Program is available M-F while school is in session. All program teachers are first aid/CPR certified. Visit our website, www.rim-rec.org for more program information and registration fees. Breakfast Club (6:15-8:15am) Kids eat a light breakfast and enjoy arts and crafts that help get the brain going before school starts. What a great start for a great day of learning!

Camp Kindergarten (12:00-6:00pm) Camp Kindergarten is a wonderful addition to your child’s morning kinder class. Our teachers pick up the kids at the kindergarten gate at noon. Kids enjoy a fun afternoon of arts and crafts and outside play time. We provide one snack but we encourage parents to pack an extra snack and water for their child. Homework can be worked on at the request of the parent.

This energetic and fun class combines acro and tumbling skills with Rhythmic Dance (ribbon, hoops, and ball). The first portion includes a warm-up and practicing across-the-floor tumbling tricks. The second portion uses ribbons, tumbling, and dance to coordinate one fun and exciting end-of-class routine. All levels welcome! Instructor: Michele Bryer

Youth Swimming Lessons

If you have never sailed before or just have little experience sailing with others this is the class for you. You will build knowledge and confidence through lectures and on-the-water practice in Dinghy sailboats. Topics will include learning the parts of a boat, sailing rules, and concepts as well as on-the-water instructions. Eighty percent of the class time will be spent sailing on the waters of Lake Arrowhead. All Participants must be able to swim and must be comfortable in water. Instructor: Chris Wallace

Reserve in advance for parties, meetings, and gatherings. Facility Use Applications & Agreements can be found on our website, www.rim-rec.org, or can be picked up at the District Office. Rental fee depends on the group category the user falls under. All rentals will incur a $100 Administrative Reservation Fee (per date) to reserve place on calendar and a refundable $250 Security Deposit (refundable if the facility is left on time, clean, and in orderly condition). Stop by our District Office at 26577 State Highway 18 in Rimforest for more information about reserving an indoor or outdoor space, and for our current rental fees.
