East Rockaway Mayors Letter
Greetings East Rockaway!
What a great time of year for our beautiful community. The board and I are so excited to see businesses opening and thriving, children playing in our parks and enjoying our stellar recreation program, our golden-age neighbors participating in and utilizing our senior citizen center and meeting new friends along our bustling waterfront.
The board and I work to provide all Village of East Rockaway residents top-notch services while always protecting your wallet. We've been successful thanks to our great workforce that help move our community in a positive direction each day. We focused on the future of our Village, spearheading infrastructure projects in an effort to be more resilient. We've worked with other agencies on road raise projects, drainage improvements and ways to protect and preserve our natural resources.
We've also invested in public safety — making sure the men and women of the East Rockaway Fire Department have the resources they need to protect our loved ones 24/7/365. The board has also collaborated with our Nassau County Police Department Auxiliary team, ensuring our brave volunteers have what they need to work with our uniformed police to keep East Rockaway one of the safest communities. The Board and I look forward to seeing you along Main Street, down at the waterfront, at our upcoming Octoberfest, a holiday event, or around town!
Sincerely, Bruno Romano Mayor

Take in some of the sights and sounds of Greis Park
The end of Wilbur Street in Lynbrook is home to many of the village's annual traditions and summer activities. Lynbrook’s Greis Veterans Memorial Park includes a lush green trail for runners and bikers, known as the Hudson Exercise Trail. It was built in 2010 on vacant land that was deeded to the Village of Lynbrook in 1989 by Nassau County, which had obtained it from New York City as part of the city's effort to dispose of many unused parcels that it owned in the county. Before the 2010 improvements, the dirt paths of the heavily wooded area were used for decades for walking and bicycling.
The upgrades, spearheaded by Brian Curran — a former Lynbrook mayor and Assemblyman — included new landscaping, attractive lighting, seven exercise stations, benches, and an asphalt path that follows the original halfmile dirt path loop, while still maintaining the natural flora of the area.
Lynbrook mayor Alan Beach has continued the beautification of Greis Park, bringing the addition of turf sports fields to the area. The hockey rink at Greis Park is expected to be redeveloped as recreation programs continue to expand. Not only does the park hold athletic fields, trails, picnic areas and playgrounds, but it is one of the few places in the area where locals can come and cool off after a long day in the hot summer sun.
Greis Park is visited annually by over 20,000 patrons and is the home of the Aquatic Center which includes a pool, spray park, and kiddie pool for the youngsters still learning how to swim.

Continued from page 13 The park also hosts many of the community’s recreation programs and youth athletic leagues. It is also the site of several annual events, including the village's annual Patriot's Day event, which honors veterans on the eve of Memorial Day. The celebration features delicious food, activities and performances in honor of the many veterans who have served to protect their country. Another tradition is the dazzling fireworks display and the mayor's picnic, which is one of the most anticipated annual events in the village. — Kepherd Daniel and Michael Smollins
