In 1849 The U.S. Coast Guard erected a life-saving station.

In 1869 oysterman Davenport Wright became the first resident when he built a bay house on what is now New York Avenue.

In 1907 the first boardwalk in Long Beach was built, a wooden walkway spanning 2.2 miles, from New York Avenue to Neptune Boulevard.

In 1915 Lido Golf Course was designed. in 1919 the Walks and

were created.

In 1922 Long Beach became a self-governing city.

In 1974 the new York Rangers began practicing at the skating rink on Magnolia Boulevard.

In 2013, the boardwalk reopened, following reconstruction after being destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

In 1980 the Long Beach historical Society was founded.

In 2009, the allegria hotel opened. The boardwalk’ s first hotel in decades, it was followed by the Long Beach Hotel in 2013.
