richmond baptist church FROM THE PASTOR “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15.57 New Zealand is a country with breathtaking scenery, mouthwatering produce and an unparalleled passion for Rugby. In 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007 the entire nation went through extended periods of depression. It was in each of these years that the All Blacks, New Zealand’s national Rugby team, failed to win the Rugby World Cup. The failure of 15 men to win the coveted trophy caused the national mood to drop, spending to fall and the nation to go through several months of grieving what could have been. The entire nations mood, their hope and joy, rested on the shoulders of a few young men and a coach.
Before you judge our friends across the ditch too harshly, I ask you to consider what affects your mood? What events, or circumstances in life have an impact on your hope and joy? Is it a battle with sin that you cannot seem to win? That sense of constant failure as you try and fail, in a seemingly unending cycle. Is it a quiet voice that tells you that you are not good enough, that you are destined to fail and that there is no hope? This voice is the voice of a liar and his words are lies. There is hope, in 1 Corinthians 15.57 Paul reminds us that we have victory through Our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul reminds the Corinthians, and us also, that the corruptible, sinful heart that struggles with doubt and failure will be replaced with an incorruptible, new heart.

This victory was won at the cross, as Jesus body was broken and his blood was shed, he took the penalty of your sin and my sin in himself. The victory was won when Jesus rose from the dead, with new life, not only for himself but for all who repent and believe. The victory is won, there is hope because of Jesus. We celebrate this victory at Easter. This year we are holding our Good Friday service at 9am at Hare Street Uniting Church. Then on Sunday join us for our celebration service on Easter Sunday, here at 10am. We hope to see you there! Elliot “Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies. 1 Corinthians 15.43-44
