OBITUARIES

NOTICE TOWN OF MARSHALL

Clifford Oswald Moravetz

Brenda L. Bindl

Clifford Oswald Moravetz, 89, of Richland Center, Wisconsin, died Monday, May 16, 2022, at Gunderson St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, Wisconsin while hospitalized with Covid19. Clifford’s parents were John George Moravetz and Helen Harriet (Oswald) Moravetz. Clifford was Helen’s only child, but he had two older half-brothers, John J. and Richard William, who were the children of John George’s first wife. After his first wife passed away, John married Helen and they added a third son to their family when Clifford was born on February 16, 1933, in Rib Lake, Wisconsin. The family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1943 when Clifford was ten years old. Clifford attended Kalamazoo Junior Academy through 10th grade and then went to Cedar Lake Academy for grades 11 and 12. Following his high school graduation in 1951, he attended Emmanuel Missionary College for 2 years. Then he served in the US Army in Korea. In 1954, Clifford married Alice Louise Niemeyer and together they had four children: Cheryl L., Julia Louise, Clifford Vincent, and David Michael. In 1970, Clifford graduated from Andrews University and pursued a varied career in teaching high school industrial arts, carpentry work, private duty nursing in the Chicago suburbs, and later in life driving large transport trucks. In 1981, Clifford married Ruth (Miller) Thein. Ruth passed away in Iowa in 2015. In 2018, Clifford married Lillian Hanke. From 1986 until early 2020, Clifford lived in Clayton Township, Crawford County, Wisconsin on Sleepy Hollow Road. From 2020 until his death, he and Lillian lived in Richland County, Wisconsin. Clifford was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and held many church offices throughout his life including treasurer, Pathfinder leader, deacon, and elder. For many years he was an active member of the Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin church. Clifford had a wide range of interests including camping, canoeing (and constructing a fiberglass canoe), traveling, and spending time in nature. Capital Reef in Utah was his favorite national park. Clifford is survived by his wife Lillian of Richland Center; two children: Julia (Michael) Wise and David (April) Moravetz both of southern Michigan; five grandchildren: Rachel (Christopher) Hufnagel, Sarah (Bryce) Onjukka, Nathan Moravetz, Hannah Moravetz, and Michelle Wise; three great-grandchildren: Jonathan and Johanna (children of Rachel and Christopher) and Lei Makaehu (foster daughter of Sarah and Bryce). Clifford was preceded in death by his father John, mother Helen, brothers John and Richard, mother of his children Alice, and two children Cheryl L. and Clifford V. Memorial services were held on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Richland Center Seventh-day Adventist Church, 26625 Crestview Drive, south of Richland Center. Visitation began at 2:00 PM with a celebration of life at 3:00 PM. A livestream of the service can be viewed at the Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service website. The service was followed by a meal at the church. Then a graveside service and military honors was held at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Bloom Township, west of Richland Center. The family suggests memorials in Clifford’s name be directed to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency or Voice of Prophecy. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service assisted the family with their arrangements. prattfuneralservice.com

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted millions of people to reconsider their careers. That reflection has had a profound effect on the labor market. Data from the U.S. Department of Labor indicates that 4.5 million people quit their jobs in the United States in November 2021, which led to a near record-high number of job openings around the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022. Though the pandemic may have led millions of people who were previously dissatisfied with their careers to make positive changes, employers forced to confront staff shortages may be wondering what they can do to attract qualified and talented candidates. Finding ways to engage workers more completely could benefit companies in various ways. A recent poll from Gallup found that companies suffer some pretty significant consequences when their employees are disengaged. Gallup reports that such companies suffer from 16 percent lower profitability, 18 percent lower productivity and 37 percent lower job growth. No two workers are the same, so there’s no magic wand employers can wave that will ensure everyone is suddenly engaged and satisfied with their jobs and career prospects. However, recognition of what employees value most could help busi-

nesses retain workers longer and keep those workers engaged. A recent survey of 540 full-time employees from the market insight firm Clutch found that the most important workplace values for fulltime employees are fair pay and fair treatment. It’s no surprise that compensation bears such significance, as pandemic-related inflation and global conflicts have led to rising costs on everything from food to fuel. However, a survey from the risk management experts at Willis Towers Watson found that there’s a disconnect between employees and employers in regard to the importance of fair pay and its relation to workplace stress. Employees consider low pay to be the second greatest source of workplace stress, while employers indicated that eight other factors are greater sources of such stress for their employees. Employers concerned about staff dissatisfaction, and the effects that disengaged employees can have on their bottom lines, can make a concerted effort to revisit their compensation policies. An overhaul of such policies could be just what companies need to reengage employees and improve employee retention, giving businesses a significant advantage in an era marked by significant turnover in the labor force. What to look for in a new career

Join Our Caring Team Full-time and Part-time AM & PM CNAs

We are currently hiring for Full-time and Part-time AM and PM positions. A valid Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is required. These benefit eligible positions start at $15.99-$16.69 with $1.50 shift differential for PMs and $1.50 weekend differential.

Call-in CNAs

We are also hiring call-in every other weekend CNAs; rate is $19.69 per hour. Work as much as little as you want. fessionals no doubt also have an established quality of life, and some may not be comfortable if a lesser salary means they have to give up some of the luxuries they’ve grown accustomed to. Take some time to determine how much money you need to maintain your current quality of life and if giving up certain things, like the ability to travel or dine out whenever you’d like, is a price you’re willing to pay for a new career. • Opportunity for advancement: A 2015 survey from the employment-oriented social media service LinkedIn found that the number one reason people switched jobs was related to opportunities for career advancement. The survey asked 10,000 people who recently left their jobs why they did so and 45 percent indicated they were concerned about the lack of opportunities for advancement at their old jobs. Switching careers is a significant decision that affects all aspects of professionals’ lives, including their families. When looking for a new career, look for one that provides opportunities for advancement after you get your foot in the door. If no such opportunities are available, you may soon find yourself switching jobs once again. Metro Creative Services

Many people are determined to make positive changes in their lives. Some may aspire to read more books in the year ahead, while others may aim to master a new hobby. Professional goals also factor heavily into many people’s resolutions. In a 2019 survey of baby boomers, who are generally defined as people born between 1946 and 1964, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the average person has 12 jobs in his or her lifetime. That means that the average professional is likely to change jobs at various points during his or her career. Working professionals who have resolved to make a career change but don’t know where to begin can facilitate the process by determining what they want out of their next career. Knowing what to look for in a career can help people land a job they will enjoy, and might even prevent them from changing jobs as many as a dozen times before retirement. • Salary: Few people would scoff at being offered higher salaries, but it’s important that professionals looking to change careers don’t place too great an emphasis on a high salary. A recent survey from the online career resource Indeed found that 58 percent of workers would accept a pay cut to change industries. That suggests that salary isn’t everything. Common mid-career challenges and what to do about them Challenges abound in the professional arena. Whether an individual is an executive with a lengthy track record of success or a newly minted graduate just starting out, the next challenge is never too far off. And for mid-career professionals, those challenges could be accompanied by uncertainty about the direction of their careers and what their next step should be. Around the time they turn 50, many professionals face similar challenges that can lead them to question much about their professional lives. The following challenges won’t affect every person over 50, but recognition of them could help mid-career professionals make the most of their remaining years in the workforce. • Motivation: Professional motivation can wane by the time many professionals reach 50. At this point in their careers, professionals may have decades of experience in a given field, and some may have reached management level within their firms. That combination of lengthy experience and achievement can make it hard to stay motivated, especially for professionals who feel they’ve gotten as high up the ladder as they can get in their companies. In such instances, individuals can ask themselves what they want next. Identifying professional goals can provide the motivation to go and achieve them. That spark can reignite the passion that helped mid-career professionals get where they are today. • Hesitancy: Mid-career professionals often have significant obligations at work and at home. Individuals with a family may still have to provide for their children and save for costly college tuition. The pressure to provide for a family, coupled with responsibilities to colleagues at the office, can make some

professionals hesitant to pursue professional changes that could positively affect their lives. Individuals who want to make a change but are hesitant to do so can devote considerable effort to finding a solution that won‘t upset the apple cart. For example, professionals over 50 who feel a career change is in order can begin taking small steps to make that a reality. Doing so while continuing to work ensures personal and professional obligations are met and gets individuals on the road to change they think will provide more fulfillment than their current careers. • Underutilization: Mid-career professionals who feel they’re underutilized at work may feel helpless to remedy their situations. Some might not welcome the upheaval to their routines that a career change would require, while others may question the wisdom of seeking more responsibility at their current firms. In such instances, professionals can look for opportunities to do more. Offer to help when new work projects arise or mentor younger colleagues just starting out. Metro Creative Services

1. Be on time: To arrive at your destination calm, collected and without breaking a sweat, give yourself more than enough time for travel. Take into account such unforeseen circumstances as traffic, road closures and parking snafus. If you’re in an unfamiliar area, consider mapping your route the day before. 2. Prepare for the unexpected: From coffee drips to spaghetti mishaps, unexpected wardrobe malfunctions can happen to anyone and any time. Always be prepared to remove the most common on-the-go stains. Pack a portable stain remover like the OxiClean On the Go Stain Remover Pen. Working like an eraser, it’s designed to tackle tough stains without leaving a residue, ensuring your outfit looks as fresh as it did when you put it on in the morning. 3. Pay attention to details: Other small details relating to your overall presen-

tation matter. In addition to a portable stain remover, a small to-go kit in your car, bag or desk drawer can include dental floss, nail polish for touch-ups, an emergency pair of panty hose, lipstick or lip balm, breath mints, hair ties, moisturizer and anything else you need to make on-the-fly adjustments. 4. Dress for the occasion: It’s important to dress right for the occasion, particularly in professional contexts. While standing out is often a good thing, following the (often unspoken) dress code will help ensure you’re only doing so for the right reasons. 5. Be well-rested: Get a great night’s sleep. Not only will you look your best if you show up well-rested, you’ll also be thinking more clearly, be more engaged, ask more insightful questions and field your own responses more carefully. While you only get one shot at a first impression, there’s no reason to stress. With a little preparation and attention to detail, you can ensure you’re on top of your game, come what may.
