LaVonn ‘Odey’ Earl Zierfuss
Ronald R. Otto
LaVonn ‘Odey’ Earl Zierfuss, 88, of Richland Center, died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Schmitt Woodland Hills. He was born in Richland Center on November 15, 1933, the son of Harvey Edwin & Ruth Vivian (Turnipseed) Zierfuss. Odey served in the US Army in Korea from 1954-1956. Odey married Rita Allayne Teeters on October 17, 1959. He worked for the City of Richland Center for many years. Odey loved to play fastpitch for the VFW, which had a very good team. He also loved to play cards. Odey is survived by his son David Allen Zierfuss of Richland Center, brother Kevin (Carol) Webb of Myland, TN, special friend Jack Sherman of Richland Center. Odey was preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Harvey and Ruth, son Odey Zierfuss, and sister Donna Dermondy. Military graveside rites were provided by the Local Military Memorial Honors Unit at the Richland Center Cemetery on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at prattfuneralservice.com.
Ronald R. Otto, 71, of Richland Center passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Meriter Hospital in Madison due to postoperative complications. He was born on December 17, 1949, in Burlington, WI, the son of Richard and Earlene (Foss) Otto. He graduated from Burlington High School and Gateway Technical College. Ron grew up milking cows on his grandfather’s farm and later married JoAnn Robers on April 28, 1973, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Ron and JoAnn moved to Richland County where they purchased a dairy farm. Ron milked cows up until his health would no longer allow it. He enjoyed his draft horses, fishing, hunting, and had an appreciation for wildlife and land conservation. Survivors include his wife JoAnn of Richland Center, WI; 4 children, Matt Otto (Alison Brooks) of Madison, WI, Becky Otto (Mike Siefkes) of Grass Lake, MI, Sarah (Scott) Siefkes of Onalaska, WI, Tim (Mary) Otto of Richland Center, WI ;4 grandchildren, Owen Otto of Madison, WI, Charlotte Siefkes of Onalaska, WI, Ben and Ellie Otto both of Richland Center, WI; 2 brothers, Gary Otto of Racine, WI, Vern (Marcia) Otto of Three Lakes, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Earlene Otto. Following Ron’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family and will be donated to Wisconsin Public Radio and Richland Center FFA. Elizabeth L. “Betty” McMullen Elizabeth L. “Betty” McMullen, age 89, of the Boaz area, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Christmas day, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Walter and Mary (Pavlik) Zeglen in Chicago, Illinois. She always felt wonderful to be born on that Christmas day. She went to St. Raphael Grammar school and St. Augustine’s High School. After graduation, she became a switchboard operator for Armour & Co. It was a wonderful job. In April 1950, she bumped into Charles McMullen, who lived 5 doors down, at the A& P. The world stood still. They had a very romantic courtship. Charles was drafted into the Army in June 1951. They were married on November 10, 1951, at Fort Sill, OK, at the Post Chapel on a 3-day pass. In January, he went to Korea and came home 18 months later. She then worked for Consumer Company and later, Draper & Kramer in Chicago. They were blessed with three childrenMaureen, Kathleen, and Charly. In 1969, they moved from Chicago to Five Points and became dairy farmers for 25 years. It was a challenge, but they did it. In 1990, Betty and her friend Mary Farley, went to work at Land’s End to gift wrap. They had a wonderful time. In 2000, Chuck and Betty worked for Meridian in maintenance. They moved to Richland Center in 2006. After Chuck’s passing, family helped move Betty back to the family farm in 2021. Betty did all kinds of crafts. She made a nativity set for St. Phillips Church for 12 years, to be raffled off. In 1994, she went to quilting retreat and became addicted to quilting. She had 4 quilts at the quilting expo in Madison. Most importantly, through her years of quilting, she met so many wonderful and talented women. She gained lifelong friendships she treasured so much. They had so many good times going to retreats and quilt meetings. Most of all, her children, whom she loved more than she could express. They were the joys of her life. The grands, great grands, and great-great are all extra blessings. She is survived by her 3 children Maureen (Norm) Davis of Viroqua, Kathy Maly of Soldiers Grove, Charly (Latisha) McMullen of Tomah; 10 grandchildren Jessica (Jim) Bellomo, Beth Davis, Amber (Scott) Berhorst, Emily Davis, Dawn (Jim) Berghorn, Sean (Shawna) Maly, Michael (Elizabeth) McMullen, Matthew McMullen, Taylor (Naomi) McMullen, Brooke McMullen; 14 great grandchildren – Cole, Kate and Quinn, Wyatt and Parker, Madalyn (Andrew), Kolton, Mason, Bryhnley and Dawson, Shay, Sage, Sylvan, and Stroud; one great-great grandson- Waylon; her sister, Carol Ratke of IL; many nieces, nephews, and special friends, including Jean Mezera, Carol LeMoine, Pam Rick, and all the quilting ladies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Mary (Pavlik) Zeglen; her in-laws, Charles and Emma (Flood) McMullen; husband, lover, and friend of 68 years, Charles J. McMullen; her sister, Helen Urbina Zeglen of Mexico and other relatives and friends from near and far. Special thanks to Agrace Hospice Care. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Noon at Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center with Monsignor Roger J. Scheckel officiating. Rolland L. Spencer Rolland L. Spencer, 70, of Lone Rock, died Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Richland Hospital. He was born in Richland Center on September 7, 1951, the son of Albert and Lucy (Brimmer) Spencer. Rolland graduated from Ithaca High School and went on to graduate with an associate degree from the Auto Technician program at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. He married his high school sweetheart Sheryl Wollin on March 7, 1971, at St. Luke’s Church in Richland Center. Rolland owned and operated his own business that offered services for small engines up to cars. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, and fishing. Rolland was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Rolland was a member of the Freemasons since November 14,1984, at Franklin Lodge 16 in Lone Rock, WI. Rolland was a volunteer on the Lone Rock EMT and the Lone Rock Fire Department for many years. Rolland loved attending family events and sporting events. He cherished his time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Rolland is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheryl Spencer of Lone Rock; four children: Stacy (Duane) Spencer of Virginia, Richard (Lisa) Spencer of Spring Green, Sara (Jon) Fuhlbohm of Reedsburg, Patrick (Sara) Spencer of Reedsburg; nine grandchildren: Collin (Emily), Andrew (Tabby), Hunter, Hayden, Abigail, Jameson, Brantly, Jessica (Zack), April; two great grandchildren: Leah, Jaxen, and one on the way; five siblings: Edward (Sharon) Spencer of Reedsburg, Trudy Edwards of Reedsburg, Mary (Frank) Novy of Lone Rock, Georgia (Ronnie) Moore of Wind Lake, Eldon Spencer of Kenosha; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rolland was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Lucy, two brothers: Donald and Raymond Spencer; and sister: Sharon Spencer. Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with burial that followed in the Loyd Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 17,2021, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation was also held at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Get out of the house and make the holidays come alive with either a walk through the beautiful Rotary Lights in the Park from 6 to 6:50pm or enjoy the warmth of the car drive through beginning at 7pm. Rotary Lights in the Park Walk Through opens at 6PM, To avoid a problem Rotary is asking all Walk Through people to park in NORTH PARK and walk across the foot bridge which will be well lit. Walk Through times are 6-6:50PM nightly with drive through from 7-9PM or as soon as all walkers have exited the walking path. For safety sake, please remain on the trail as you’re walking through.
