June 18, 2020 Sister Mary Jane Slaney, O.S.B. passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the

age of 96. The first born of Patrick (Henry) Slaney and Mary Fay Ryan Slaney, Sister Mary Jane was baptized in St. Patrick Church on Melancthon Creek in Richland County, Wisconsin where she was later also confirmed by Bishop McGavick. In 1938 she entered the Scholasticate at St. Benedict Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Upon entering the novitiate and receiving the habit in June 1943, Sister took the name Sister John Marie. She made her first vows in January 1945 and taught school in St. Joseph and Breckenridge, Minnesota schools until June of 1948. Having made perpetual (final) vows on July 11, 1945 at St. Benedict Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota, Sister John Marie returned to Eau Claire where her first teaching assignment was at St. Patrick School in Eau Claire. Sister Mary Jane earned a BA degree from St. Catherine College in St. Paul, Minnesota and Master’s and Doctorate advanced degrees at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville where she also taught. Sister accepted a position as librarian at St. Agnes High School in Springfield, Missouri in 1983 and also served as a parish minister serving the needs of the sick, the aged and the dying. During that time she also taught night classes at Southwest Missouri State University. Mary Jane retired from parish work in 1998 for health reasons. In late 2018, she moved to the Benedictine Monastery in Minnesota where she resided at St. Scholastica Convent as her health continued to decline. There are many changes surrounding this year’s walk. One of them being how we will handle our Silent Auction. With events not being at the park and wanting to adhere to social distancing - we’ve opted to hold a Facebook Silent Auction this year.

Items will be posted weekly (beginning this Sunday) and the bidding will run for an entire week. Bidding will end at 9 PM the following Saturday. Winners of the items will be announced on Sunday mornings. We’ll update each Sunday as well with the ongoing total. Please share the posts so people who may not follow our page will be able to participate as well! We have a wide array of items already donated - but we can certainly use many more! Spread the word. The more items, the more fun this will be! Please put on your thinking caps (as teams and individuals). Below is a list of just a few ideas - but PLEASE make this event your own. We want to raise as much money as we can for G.R.A.C.E. Please feel free to leave a message here on our page if you have an item/items to donate, or call Teri Benning at 608.393.5509. Killing A Business In Ten Easy Steps

With permanent life insurance from Erie Family Life, you can help ease your family’s pain after you’re gone.

No one knows what tomorrow brings.

Don’t Advertise! Just pretend everyone knows what you have to offer.

Funeral expenses, burial, estate or legal costs, and medical bills can add up quickly. Without final expense coverage, your family could face a serious financial burden. Put them at ease by purchasing a permanent life policy from Erie Family Life. It’s more affordable than you may think and easy to obtain with a simple application process.

1. 2.

Look at the facts and then call or email us for a no-obligation quote.

Myths and truths about your final expenses: Final expenses aren’t really that much.

A simple funeral with burial can cost as much as $7,755.1

Final expense coverage is expensive.

Actually, you’d be surprised. For less than a few dollars a day, you can help provide a financial safety net for your family.

Social Security will pay for my burial.

The Social Security death benefit is less than $500, which doesn’t go far when paying funeral expenses.

All life insurance is the same.

Your Erie Family Life insurance policy comes with a knowledgable local Agent. A real person—not the Internet or a 1–800 number. And it’s backed by a highly rated, financially sound company.

Leave your family with memories, not bills. Final expense coverage makes it easy to give your family real peace of mind.

3.

Cost sources: 2009 National Funeral Directors Association—General Price List Survey. This life insurance does not specifically cover funeral goods or services, and may not cover the entire cost of your funeral or other expenses at the time of your death. The beneficiary of this life insurance may use the proceeds for any purpose, unless otherwise directed.

4. 5.

Don’t Advertise! Forget that there are new potential customers who would do business with you if they were reminded and urged to do so.
