EDWARD JAMES JOHNSON April 16, 2020

LOLA ALENE BRISTOL April 19, 2020

Edward James Johnson, age 77, of Whitehall, died on Thursday April 16, 2020 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls. Edward was born on August 4, 1942 in Whitehall to Jimmy and Edna (Christianson) Johnson. Edward graduated from the Whitehall School and served in the United States Army National Guard. Edward married Dorothy Muller on June 17, 1967 in Milaca, MN and was employed at AMPI in Blair for forty-two years prior to his retirement. Edward was a member of the Blair Lutheran Church in Blair. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bear, deer, and turkey hunting. Edward also enjoyed his time attending and monitoring the meetings of Wisconsin Conservation Congress. He had skills as a handyman and enjoyed knowing how things worked and when needed, he would fix them, which friends and family always appreciated. Together Edward and Dorothy enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with family. He enjoyed good conversation and would make friends wherever he went. He was a Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan and would occasionally watch a Minnesota Vikings game. Ed loved his pets, especially his dog, Annie. His grandchildren were very important to him and he would often travel long distances to attend their basketball games and show their support for the Richland Center Hornets. His grandchildren were extremely thankful to have him in their lives and will always remember him as their biggest fan. They will miss his phone calls, jokes, and his laugh the most. Edward is survived by his wife Dorothy; two children, Karn (Richard) Schauf of Richland Center and Eric (Jodie) Johnson of Osseo; three grandchildren, Emily (Mikhail Chabela) Schauf, Allison Schauf, and Jacob Schauf; a brother, Jerome (Arlene Severson) Johnson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and in-laws. Private family services will be held in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair. Vicar Paul Sannerud will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post #231. A celebration of remembrance and thanks will be held in the future at the farm that Ed loved so much. The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lola Alene Bristol was born to Lawrence and Bertha (Grandstaff) Donner on Jan 1, 1919 in Richland County, Wisconsin in the midst of the Spanish Flu. She had a wonderful childhood and spoke fondly about all the fun she had with her parents and her five siblings. In a home filled with books and music, she also learned cooking, sewing and canning from her mother, the latter of which made her a wonderful homemaker when she married and had her own family. She met Grant Bristol on May 1st (May Day), 1938 and from that day onward, they were inseparable. They knew in a way that few know that they were truly meant for one another and neither of them ever dated anyone else. They were married in a small ceremony on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 1940 in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Theirs was a love story like no other, a deep, abiding love that remained undiminished with the passage of time and was obvious to all who fell into its orbit. It was not uncommon to have people comment on the special, almost palpable, love that seemed to pass between them. It inspired everyone, but defied imitation. It occupied a lofty category all its own. Lola and Grant had a long and wonderful life together, raising a family and living in the house that Grant built for 71 years. They loved the Richland Center community and were proud to be lifelong members of the First Baptist Church. Upon retirement, they traveled throughout the United States, often in their motorhome, visiting every state on the continent except Alaska. Up into their late 80s, they continued to walk three miles a day, holding hands the whole way. She had a profound love and respect for education and attended schools in Richland and Crawford Counties, graduating from Richland County Normal College and University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Richland County school district for over 30 years, beginning in a rural one room schoolhouse teaching all 12 grades but spending most of her career teaching kindergarten. She loved to instill her love of learning in the young students in her charge and always said she wanted to get them off “to a good start.” Up until the end of her life, she continued to be able to recall the names of her students and took great pride in receiving cards and notes from them. Lola had an astounding memory and was renowned for her ability to recite from memory lengthy poems that she had learned as a child. Although she was greatly admired for being educated, beautiful, stylish and confident, she is most fondly remembered for her timeless qualities: the love she had for her family, her thirst for knowledge, her love of words and literature, her boundless energy and enthusiasm, her kindness and grace, her courage and strength. This latter quality was what allowed her to, following the

passing of Grant in 2018, pick herself up time and time again to press on despite her own pain and suffering. She knew this was no world to be weak in. Lola and Grant took pride in being early residents of Pine Valley Community Village and, although they hated to leave the home they had lived in for more than 70 years, they settled in to their new rooms in Assisted Living and quickly adjusted due to Pine Valley’s kind and capable staff. Her family will forever be grateful for the loving care they received there. She is survived by her five children, Sandy (Bob) Bee; Sherry Anthony (Doug Cox); Kathy (Lyle) Rosenbaum; Nick (Cheri) Bristol; and Greg (Ingrid) Bristol; her 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and faithful friends, among them, Jim Fry, their loyal friend and neighbor. Lola was preceded in death by her husband Grant, her parents, her sisters, Myrna Nimocks, Florence Goplin, Vivian Cooper and Doretta Buroker, and her brother, Virgil Donner. She was also preceded by her granddaughter Jill Olsen and Grant’s parents, brothers and sisters. Per their wishes, Lola and Grant’s ashes were joined together and will be laid to rest once the family can schedule a Celebration of Life Ceremony. Details will follow at a later date. LYLE TYDRICH

April 20, 2020 Lyle Tydrich joined his Mom and Dad in Heaven on Monday, April 20, 2020. Lyle was born on October 21, 1948 in Richland Center to Martin and Elaine (Clark) Tydrich. Lyle passed away due to complications associated with his Alzheimers disease. He grew up and lived his whole life on the family farm just south of Yuba until July of 2018 when he became a resident of Schmitt Woodland Hills. Lyle went to grade school at Yuba Elementary and continued his education at Hillsboro High School where he graduated with the HHS class of 1966. Lyle was always willing to serve his community. He was a very long term member of the Yuba Volunteer Fire Dept, serving 20 plus years as Fire Chief and helped to start the Yuba First Responders. He served as Village of Yuba Assessor for several years and also was a 15 plus year member of the Hillsboro School Board. He was a long time member of the Henrietta-Greenwood Town Mutual Board of Directors. In 1998 Lyle helped to start the Scenic Central Milk Coop, an independent

milk marketing cooperative. He was one of three who initiated the coop, which was formed to better serve the milk producing farmer. He served as chairman of the board of directors for 10 years. This coop is still in operation today and has a farmer payroll of more than 2 million dollars a year. This operation was something which Lyle was very proud of. He also loved his red IH Tractors and loved to be around those who shared that love. He was a member of the International Harvester Collectors Wisconsin Chapter #4. He served as president for six years. He and Bonnie traveled all over the country to various tractor shows and activities. They made many friends from all over the country. Lyle and Bonnie were charter members of Hill Country Classic Power. This is the local organization that hosts the Wheels of Time Truck and Tractor Show in Richland Center. Lyle leaves behind his wife, Bonnie and two daughters, Kris Keehn and Deanna Newlun. He also will be extremely missed by his step-children, Suzanne (Troy) Derengowski, Becky (Andy) Carda, Carrie (Ron) Bailey and Paul (Beth) Eberhardt. All 13 of Lyle and Bonnie’s grandchildren loved their Papa Lyle. The grandkids are Taylor & Jordan Keehn, Elaina & Trevor Newlun, Anna & Adam Derengowski, Eathan & Emily Carda, Clayton & Spencer (Mia) Bailey, and Riley, Reagan & Reese Eberhardt. Lyle also leaves 3 sisters Susan (Joe) Vodak, Mary (Tim) Murphy and Carol Solum. Sheila Alderman, the mother of his daughters, also survives him. Lyle is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lyle never met a stranger. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Elaine Tydrich, his grandparents, William & Agnes Tydrich and Emo and Selena Clark as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. A private burial service will be held on May 15. Because of Covid 19 this will be kept to just his wife and immediate family. Lyle will be put to rest at Czech National Cemetery where most of his ancestors are buried. A celebration of life will be held in July or August depending on the recovery from our recent epidemic. VERNA MAE (MONROE) PUCKETT

April 22, 2020 Verna Mae (Monroe) Puckett of Muscoda, WI, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at the age of 93. She was born in Marietta Valley in Crawford County, Wisconsin, to Faye J. (Boak) Monroe and Delbert Monroe on July 23, 1926. For most of her youth, she farmed with

her parents, and later moved to Sheboygan during World War II and worked in the war effort producing military eating utensils. She also lived in Milwaukee and worked as a telephone operator. She met her future husband, Fredrick Roland Puckett, at a church picnic, and they were married on April 10th, 1946. They were married for 54 years. They had 7 children, Brian, Fredrick, Kay, Scott, Kem, Merry and Mark. During their married life, they moved several times following Fred’s jobs, living in Washington, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and several other states. Verna worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medical Technician for many years. She enjoyed supporting and raising her family, drinking coffee, nurturing her house plants, cooking, canning, gardening, sewing, embroidering, quilting, knitting, reading, and watching television, especially old westerns. After grieving Fred’s passing in August of 2000, she began to travel with her friends and going to dances, and Verna LOVED to dance, often time going to dances 3 or 4 times a week-continuing up until shortly before her passing. She was an active member of the Southwest Wisconsin Country Music Association. She served as a Foster Grandparent at Riverdale Elementary School in Muscoda for over 15 years and is remembered fondly by those children whose lives she touched. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Certified Member of the Presbyterian Church of Muscoda since 1999. She enjoyed supporting charities whose missions were focused on improving the quality of life of children. For almost 20 years, she enjoyed being a part of the Birthday Babes-a group of treasured friends that met every Tuesday morning for breakfast at The Port, and once a month enjoyed lunch at a restaurant of the Birthday Girls choosing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Roland Puckett, son Fredrick (Freddie) Puckett, granddaughter Markie Mae Puckett, her parents, Faye (Boak) Monroe and Delbert Monroe, brothers Raymond Monroe, Ryland Monroe, Robert Monroe and James Ostrander. She is survived by her children Brian (Mary) Puckett, Kay (Tom) Pink, Scott (Mary) Puckett, Kem Puckett, Mark (Pam) Puckett, and Merry (Bruce) Schellhase, as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Delbert (Charlene) Monroe, Ronnie (Virginia) Monroe, Jerry (Suzette) Monroe and her sister Mona Jean (Gordon) Faust. Verna will be remembered for her rock-solid faith, her feisty personality, her gentle touch and kindness, her dedication to her children, her grandchildren, and her friends. To quote her Daughter in Law, Pam Puckett “everybody loved Verna, and she was a huge part of the community in which she lived.” She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Foster Grandmother, Sister and Friend and she will be greatly missed. At the time of her passing, Verna was being cared for at the Muscoda Nursing Home and Rehab Center, and the family wants to thank them for their loving and compassionate care!
