OPEN ENROLL YOUR CHILD IN THE RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR The Richland School District is passionate about the education of our students. The administrators, faculty, and staff of the District welcome your child to any of our state of the art school buildings. The District is comprised of five brick and mortar buildings, housing early childhood through 12th grade classrooms: Lincoln, Jefferson, and Doudna Elementary Schools, Richland Middle School, and Richland Center High School; and our online education option for students in grades 6-12, the Richland Online Academy. With our current District-wide enrollment of approximately 1,300 students, we are large enough to provide a wide variety of opportunities, but small enough to know everyone on a first name basis.

The Community Option Mike Breininger Anyone who has recently shopped in Richland Center has probably noticed many businesses with the window decals asking their patrons to “buy local”. Buying local is important to help build the strong economic vibrancy of small communities. Being community minded includes more than just buying local retail products. *Hire Here—when hiring decisions are being made, an important factor is if someone lives in the community or is willing to relocate to the community in which they work. People that live in a community or locality are much more likely to spend their money and invest in that community. They pay taxes that support local schools, build roads, and pay for government. Local people also support charities that are vital to a community; Lydia’s House Ministries homeless shelters, The Richland Food Pantry, and GRACE to name a few. Hiring community-oriented people should be an important consideration in recruiting people who will re-invest in the community. Who are you hiring? *Acquire Close—buying goods and services in our own community means the money we spend will stay in the community. One dollar spent outside the community will return nothing to the community. The same dollar spent with someone inside the community will be spent two to seven times again within the community, making the effect of the spending multiply. This community spending should apply everywhere possible. Besides retail purchases, buying insurance from a local agency, investing money through a community based financial advisor, finding a local family physician and surgeon, a local car dealer, and using community banks for deposits and loans, all works to keep money in the community and the local economy growing. What buying patterns could you use to support community? *Prioritize our Professionals—whenever possible sourcing locally is also a boost to the community. Things such as sourcing foods from local farmers, using local construction subcontractors, buying from factory stores, and just discovering what can be supplied locally instead of going outside the area. There are amazing talent pools in communities that can build business and strengthen economies. This keeps the local supply chain vibrant, increases robustness of the local economy and builds the community. If it is produced in the community or can be produced in the community, buy it in the community. What are local sources and skills that you might use?

The Richland School District offers unique and award-winning options to our students, including: • Nationally accredited Project Lead the Way program: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses at middle school and high school levels • High school Advanced Placement (AP) courses and access to Early College Credit program through UW-Platteville Richland and Southwest Technical College • Award winning instrumental and vocal music programs • Exceptional, highly qualified staff • State of the art facilities with newly updated secure entries

*Give Back—as people in the community look for places to serve in the community, the benefit for the community is more than just dollars. A healthy community identifies and solves its challenges and finds new ways to create a healthy community environment. Join service groups such as Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, or community enhancing organizations such as SW Partners, the Career Education Cooperative, Community Prosperity Alliance or the many other organizations that serve the community. How are you giving back? The Local option is the better community option. Think community. Community Prosperity Alliance (CPA) is the economic development organization that represents the business and governance communities of Richland Center, Richland County, and communities on the edge of Richland County. See us on Facebook or on the web at https:// communityprosperityalliance.com/ or call Economic Development Specialist, Kate Koziol at 608-649-1111.

Join the Richland School District family by open enrolling your children for 2019-20! The annual public school open enrollment period in Wisconsin is open from now until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Enroll online now at https://apps4.dpi.wi.gov/Opal2012/. Alternately, paper applications are available at the Richland School District office, at the west end of the Richland Center High School building, 1996 U.S. Highway 14 West, Richland Center.
