May 2010 Dear Integra website user, Welcome to the third newsletter outlining the activities of Integra: a Europe-wide live electronic music project led by Birmingham Conservatoire (UK) and funded by the European Commission. Integra is committed to ensuring the vitality of live electronic music. Of paramount importance in this respect is our programme of performances, which has seen significant activity over the past few months. In March alone there were three Integra productions: Grup Instrumental de València appeared at Kings Place, London, on 1st March with a programme that included the Integra commission Grind Show by Tansy Davies; Court-Circuit completed their second Integra concert on 10 March with a performance of Integra commission Respire by Pierre Jodlowski at CRR de Paris; and IEM oversaw Pierre Boulez’s Dialogue De L’ombre Double, migrated from its original technology, on 26th March in a concert featuring the clarinet player Pierre Dutrieu. Grup Instrumental added to their recent Integra activity on 11th May at Teatro Talía, Valencia, with a performance that included both Grind Show and Respire. In the sphere of development, we are very close to defining a release date for the Beta version of our Integra:Live software. All research partners (Birmingham Conservatoire, CIRMMT, IEM, Malmö Academy of Music, Muzyka Centrum & NOTAM) have been using their expertise to prepare the release for public download from our website. We look forward to receiving feedback from the broader community about our work and have also conducted our first usability tests in conjunction with Birmingham City University’s UserLab (www.biad.uce.ac.uk/research/user-lab) in which four people from diverse musical and technical backgrounds were invited to engage with the software in structured assessment sessions. The results were very positive and will be fed back into the software as it continues to develop. Thank you for your interest in the project and please keep checking our website for updates - www.integralive.org.
