when? The provisional start date for the Corner to Corner challenge is 6th August 2012. ShelterBox - it’s all about the box
how? I will complete the entire journey by bicycle. The bike I will use is a Thorn Raven Tour, designed and built in Bridgewater, Somerset. A rough route will be planned prior to departure, the finer details will be sorted day by day ‘on the road’ to allow flexibility. I will undertake simple maintenance and repairs during the tour, carrying sufficient spare parts to deal with most foreseeable failures. I aim to camp and cook my own meals wherever possible throughout the tour. I plan to cycle an average of 60 miles per day and expect to burn in the region of 600 calories per hour while cycling; roughly 3,000 calories per day. This is the equivalent energy burnt in running a marathon, every day for 3 months! To maintain my body weight, I will need to eat double what I would normally consume.
a bit about me... I have been a keen cyclist for many years. My first major cycle tour was Lands End to John O’Groats in 2008. Since then I have completed an end to end tour of Ireland and my first solo tour, cycling from Geneva to Brussels over a week. In addition to cycling I enjoy running & competing in triathlon. I have completed the London Marathon three times and harbour ambitions to one day complete an Ironman. I support numerous charities & have participated in fundraising events for good causes in the past, although nothing on the scale of the 2012 challenge!
help needed! I am seeking sponsors to help finance my corner to corner challenge. I estimate the total cost of the trip to be in the region of £5,000 and am aiming to secure a total of £2,000 sponsorship towards trip expenses. I am personally financing the balance of the trip and all equipment costs. Sponsoring the trip will be helping support my fundraising activities and will also generate publicity for your company. Gold Sponsor Benefits (Sponsorship > £1,000): Sponsor logos clearly included on all clothing, promotional material, letterheads, website and blog Publicity at fundraising events/ within media reports Silver Sponsor Benefits (sponsorship £200 - £1,000): Sponsor logos clearly included on website and blog I can also accommodate requests from sponsors and partners, such as giving presentations on my experience, passing through specified destinations (within reason!), equipment reviews etc – please contact me to discuss options. I am happy to consider all offers of sponsorship and I am more than willing to discuss my plans in more detail at your convenience.
