How to Care for your Flowers

Remove all packaging (including hand tied bouquets in water). Cut 1-2cms off stems at an angle, then place in vase filled with luke warm water and the flower food supplied. Keep flowers out the way of direct sunlight, heat, draughts and ripening fruit. Keep the vase water level topped up. Remove any wilting heads as this assists other blooms to open. Some stems will be in bud to prolong the life of your flowers. Lily pollen may stain, so remove stamen from any newly opened flowers and avoid direct contact. We recommend that flowers are not placed on unprotected surfaces. Flowers are for display purposes only and must not be eaten.

Why measure water acvity ? • • •

Water ac$vity ( Equilibrium % Rela$ve Humidity ) is the free moisture available. Water ac$vity is scaled 0 -1 aw or 0- 100 % ERH . Water ac$vity can determine the quality of your products or ingredients as a tool for micro – growth poten$al, stability, texture , taste and shelf-life Quality Control measures.

Taking reliable readings : • • • •

Always let warm or cool samples reach room temperature before opening ! Ensure samples are homogenised (crushed, s$rred or mixed-up evenly). Prepare samples in the plas$c cups provided and fill to approx. 2/3 full. Maybe you could write up a simple test procedure (SOP) ?

• • • •

Calibrate against the re- useable SAL-T salt tablets at least every 2 months. Change the sensor protec$ve filter ( EVC21) every 2 months at least . Keep the sensor chamber clean and free of sample build up. Ensure that rou$ne maintenance and calibra$on is carried out by Novatron .

NEWS FROM THE FRONT NORTH AMERICA FRANKFOR FRANKFORTT GETTING POSITIONED FOR FUTURE GROWTH FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY MANAGER, FRANKFORT, CROSLEEYY,, PLANT MANAGER, ATTHAN CROSLEY, BY NNATHAN Kyy., is the single largest ur plant in Frankfort,, K operating unit in the Beam network, producing more than 12 million cases of spirits every year … and growing.

O

In 2010, we took on the production of DeKuyper, the number one line of cordials in the U.S ., which brought the addition of more than 3 million cases annually. One year later, in 2011, Beam acquired Skinnygirl Cocktails, which at the time included one SKU – Margarita – and volume of 100,000 cases. In just 18 short months, Beam drove explosive growth on the brand and now Skinnygirl Cocktails spans 16 different varieties and is a one million case brand with continued growth on the horizon. Since that time, we have also taken on the processing and packaging of Cruzan Rum and its strong line of innovations including the most recent launches of Cruzan Key Lime and Cruzan Passion Fruit. Now, we’re diligently preparing to take on the production and bottling of Pinnacle Vodka and Calico Jack Rum in Q1 2014. Once we take on this added volume, we will be responsible for the quality output of an expected annual volume of over 15 million cases. In addition to being the largest OU at Beam, we will also be one of the largest spirits manufacturing sites in the entire U.S .! Our ultimate goal in Frankfort is to be a world-class producer of Beam lifestyle spirits, linked closely with our commercial teams to aid in more accurate forecasting, and to strive toward manufacturing excellence through One BEAM Way.

WHAT’S HOT WHAT’S MAKING THE SALE OUT IN THE FIELD AGER AMERICAN REGION AND MEXICO MANAGER ATTT METZ, GENERAL SALES MAN MATT BY MA rom distilling and bottling to promoting and selling, Beam products pass through great care to reach their ultimate destination in the hands of our consumers. On the Commercial side, it’s our job to make sure that when consumers walk into a bar or restaurant, or their favorite retail store, they choose Beam over the competition. Let me show you a few examples of how we’re doing that here in the American Region, which consists of 22 markets and over one-third of the U.S . business – close to 20% of Beam’s global revenue. The U.S . portion of the region is off to a great start tracking toward 7% sales growth in the first half of 2013. The region also includes Mexico, tracking to achieve over 30% sales growth through the first half of 2013!

What’s HOT? It’s Whiskey, specifically Bourbon growing at over 10% in the American Region. And we don’t stop there. The American Region continues to bring the heat in innovation, shipping over 144,000 cases of our various innovations, such as Red Stag, Hornitos Limeshot, new Pinnacle flavors and Skinnygirl expressions, in the first five months.

• Activation in on-premise accounts has also delivered big wins, especially in distribution for our tequilas exas alone, Te heading into the summer. In the state of T a “Margarita Madness” program focused on driving menu placements for Beam’s premium tequila brands has delivered over 1,800 placements! In Boston, activation plans surrounding Beam’s sponsorship of Major League Baseball team the Boston Red Sox has placed Beam brands front and center in some of the most primary locations in the city. Our deepest appreciation goes to all of our colleagues around the world in Operations and Supply Chain who produce the best liquid, ou produc Yo make this success possible! Y and with our strong strategy and a dedicated team, the future looks bright for the American Region and for Beam. Cheers to Crafting – and selling – the Spirits that Stir the World.

Our success in reaching consumers relies on a combination of distribution, display and activation. • In distribution, it’s about getting products on the shelves! This year, our team has secured over 400,000 new points of distribution on our super premium and innovation portfolios. • Once there, it’s all about the display. How can we position our brands to stand out from the rest and even “talk” to our target consumers? In Q1 2013, our field sales, field marketing, and distributor teams collaborated to develop a summer plan for the American Region that generated over 3,000 displays during May and June for key brands like Pinnacle, Sauza Sparkling, Jim Beam Honey, Devil’s Cut, Jacob’s Ghost, Jim Beam Black, and Maker’s 46. And who could forget about Beam’s leading lady, Skinnygirl? Securing creative displays such as the one shown here is one of our biggest initiatives this summer.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE SAFETY IS ALL OUR JOBS! BY STEVE LUTES, VICE PRESIDENT GLOBAL TECHNICAL SERVICES ach year we work hard to make strides in providing a safe workplace at Beam locations around the world. Teams are formed, improvement plans are updated and training honed; and our efforts are driving great results (through the end of May, we have experienced 18 recordable injuries globally, compared to 43 at the same time last year).

E

We need to continue to safeguard our most valuable asset, our employees. Our new behavior-based safety process drives us toward our goal of creating a safe, injury-free workplace. The behavior-based safety process is about ensuring each of us has the right mindset, behaviors and capabilities to recognize hazards in the workplace and take the appropriate precautions. Taking responsibility for our own safety, as well as the safety of our coworkers, is at the heart of behavior-based safety. All employees within our operating units around the world

will participate in the process once fully rolled out. With the assistance of industry Behavior Safety leader Dr. Dominic Cooper, B-Safety Management Solutions, we will provide training, guidance, feedback and an anonymous employee safety assessment to determine our current safety culture. Behavior-based safety will build upon our solid foundation and be a great complement to our One BEAM Way process. Most recently, our Scotland operations provided behavior safety observer training for their team with great success. By the end of this year, several other international locations will have rolled out Behavior Safety in a One BEAM Way pilot area. Our other sites will focus on the TRACC methodology before implementing this process. For more information, please contact Raquel Gorena (502)-215-2397 or Rick Price (502)-215-2386. Together, we all can make a difference!
