This is always a busy time at the yard, with many of the ponies coming back from the fields for winter, and of course plenty of clipping for the whole yard. Many of you may be wondering why we clip our horses and ponies at this time of the year.

hot and sweaty when exercising. Clipping helps to keep them cool during the lessons. Of course, this may mean they can get cold at night time, so many of them will wear a

Well, as winter comes, the horses and ponies naturally grow more fur to deal with the cold. However our horses and ponies will work throughout the winter months, and like us, do get

rug after lessons. Also, you may have noticed there are lots of new signs popping up around the yard. Because there are now far more people coming to the yard than before, we have had to bring some organisation to the parking arrangements. If you would be so kind as to park in the designated areas, it will make life a lot easier for us all. Rachael

Interview with Max Name: Jurgen AKA Max Best Friend: Urby Breed: Haflinger The Haflinger, also known as the Avelignese, is a breed of horse developed in Austria and Northern Italy during the late 19th century. It was bred for use in mountainous terrain (which we find very useful

in Bestwood Country Park) Haflinger horses are relatively small, and have distinctive gaits, described as energetic but smooth. The breed as it is known today was officially established in the village of Hafling in the Etschlander Mountains.

It appears on the municipal coat of arms of Hafling

5 minute chat with our staff Name: Tracey Jacks (Instructor) Birthday: 3rd April How did you get into horses? I started to help out at another riding school when I was about 10 years old, and absolutely loved it. Even as young as I was, I just knew it was what I wanted to do when I was older. Teaching the little ones is my favourite job, it is great to see them arrive with no experience at all, and with a bit of help and encouragement, are soon having a fantastic time. Favourite horse of all time? This is a difficult one, because there are loads to choose from. I think it would have to be Chesney. (Not the Shetland that lives in the bottom paddock) Chesney was the first horse owned by myself, and was

named by Ann at the Rectory after the character from coronation street. He was a great jumper, and helped me to improve my riding. Favourite Person. That will have to be my 2 year old little boy Tyler. Favourite Song? Wanna be billionaire. By Travie Mcoy Favourite TV Show? Eastenders Favourite Drink? Tea is my favourite of all time, and I really can’t bare the smell of coffee. At night I love Horlicks. If I am going out then a glass of dry white wine. Pinot Grigio or a Chardonnay will do. Favourite Food? Anything but Fish!!!!!!
